I see he has had to apologise for the comments he made in an interview.

I know it's a highly sensitive area but I do think he has been harshly judged here and will probably be lucky if he isn't moved aside gradually from his commentary gig.

Personally I understand why his comments have caused outrage but it sounds like an innocent mistake to me. The word "other" seems to hold an awful lot of weight in one of the sentences he said.

Take that word out and what he said had some merit.

He's immediately held his hands up, acknowledged the situation, explained his comments and apologised.

That should be the end of it.

He's always struck me as a bit of a kopite in commentary.
Bang goes his standing ovation at the kop end when he retires, which he should have done ages ago.

I agree. No way could he have said that deliberately. I wish everyone could just move on but some just won't leave it there.

A very rare event, someone may have actually misspoke rather than realise they have shown their true colours and tried to wriggle out later. It sounds to me he may well be trying to speak about two separate things and given the proper apology that should be the end of the matter

Having read the comments then heard them it seems clear to me he misspoke.

He has realised his error (or rather it has been pointed out to him and he's accepted it) and he's apologised.

I don't get the impression there was any malice in what he said so hopefully it can be accepted as an error.

Many Liverpool fans hate him, and think he’s very pro Man Utd

I don’t think he should be hounded out or anything, and I’m sure the apology is genuine, but it looks like a bit of a Freudian slip to me. Probably thinking it out loud.

What he thinks is neither here nor there in my opinion. We all have our own prejudices, which most reasonable people try not to let out. He didn't mean to say it, that's case closed as far as I'm concerned.

Suspect he meant to say Heysel.

Is the “outrage” over comments made in 1992 or have I picked this up wrong?

It's a bit confusingly worded…

Mr Tyler made his comments while being interviewed about the Premier League launch in 1992 by Today presenter Martha Kearney and Justin Webb.

…but it was a recent interview – the "in 1992" refers to when the PL started.

He tends to ramble on about matters not pertaining to the action which is going on in front of him. I fail to see why he's there really.

He gets all the European trips too! No wonder he favours the Reds!

The guy has explained that he words he used weren't intentional and apologised.

The people that condemned him without the right of reply should now apologise as well.

He definitely is pro Man U. He’s obviously a bit of legendary commentator but he won’t be missed IMO, look forward to him bowing out.
