View Full Version : Tickets Buying Tickets as an Outsider

Hi all,

My wife and I will be visiting Edinburgh later this month, and would love to go to the Aug 20 match but are having difficulty finding tickets.

I’ve created an account online, but since it’s a new account I’m told I won’t be able to purchase tickets when they go on sale because it’s a category A match.

We are huge football fans and would like to see a match during our brief time in Scotland.

Are there any other options for us to find tickets? Is it possible to buy two tickets that morning at the stadium? We are not picky about where we sit, we’d just like to see a match in person while we are there if possible. I tried contacting the ticket office but unfortunately due to high security around the match they cannot help me out.

Thanks in advance and we can’t wait to visit!

No probably not. It's to stop away fans getting in the home end. Edinburgh FC are at home to Falkirk that day, might be worthwhile heading there and you will get a ticket no problem.

FC Edinburgh are your best bet. They're playing that weekend.

You couldn’t really have chosen a worst game to go to. It’s against the rangers so their end will be sold out and out three ends will probably sell out too. The fact is there is a high police presence and high security at this match so the chance of getting a ticket for this one is near enough zero.
I would suggest maybe going to see Edinburgh FC who play at Meadowbank stadium near Easter Road, they’re playing Falkirk in league 1 or Bonnyrigg Rose are playing Albion Rovers at New Dundas Park (31 bus ride from city centre). They play in league 2.
Unfortunately the rangers game will not be an option for you given the nature of the game.

You won't be getting a ticket to see Hibs v Rangers. The restrictions are in place to stop away fans buying tickets in the home end. Sorry mate.

Depending on how long you're staying it'll be no problem getting tickets for our game v Kilmarnock on the 3rd September.

We're a suspicious bunch on here, you could be a sticky bun masquerading as a tourist to try and ticket in the home end. The old "I'm a tourist and would like to attend a game" ploy.

I posted on Reddit as well, and was told that my best bet to get into the match was to purchase a pair of hospitality tickets.

I know they are a bit pricey, but since we are only in Edinburgh for four days is it worth it to experience one of the hospitality seats for a big match like this?

If so, any advice on those? It looks like Pioneers and Tornadoes are available for the Aug 20 match still.

Thanks for the help!

The hospitality packages are brand new for this season so I don't think you'll get much feedback on them yet.

Pioneers is certainly the most expensive of the two.

This is a ridiculous situation.

I can understand the rationale behind it but it certainly is a bit ridiculous that we cannot make an exception for people who can prove that they're a tourist and visiting Edinburgh as a one off - particularly in August during the Fringe.

Would it be so difficult to ask to see their passport?

Might be worth a call to the Ticket Office. My son’s pals (who were not on database) for the last Hibs Rangers game (the evening match we lost 1-0) managed to get tickets (student rate) no problem from the Ticket Office just before kick off. (No, not entirely sure how either.)

In theory someone on the Hibs database can buy 2 regular tickets for you. Unfortunately if there are any issues they would be held liable.

Hibs v Rangers is a powderkeg fixture and it's a big risk for a Hibs fan to buy tickets for someone they don't know. The best options would either be hospitality or try to pick up a spare ticket from someone on the street on the day.

Almost any other game and you would have been able to buy a ticket no problem. I'd wager even against Celtic someone may have been willing to help you out. Hearts or Rangers though are just a bit too risky.

I'm not sure how it works exactly but I'm sure you have to have history of buying tickets for a Category B game before being able to purchase tickets for a Cat A game. Tickets for the Kilmarnock game on 3rd September are already on sale. Buying 2 tickets for that may be enough to circumvent the system and allow purchase for the Rangers game. Added expense but cheaper than hospitality.

Maybe folk that are not on database could be asked to collect tickets shortly before kickoff but have to be wearing Hibs strip / colours . Would boost club shop sales too .

Call the ticket office as others have suggested. They’re very helpful. And the hospitality offerings are brand new for this season and should make your day a bit more special - if that’s the only option open to you. The ticket office should be able to help though. 0131 661 2159.

I think people are way overplaying the deal with the Rangers fans.

Steer clear and you’ll be fine mate. Stick beside hibs fans.

Unless you take up the offer from the member who said that if you have proof he’ll buy you tickets, then I would say the hospitality would be worth it.

You’ll 99.99% be safe at the game (that 0.01%) is so you cant sue me if something does go wrong.

I expect the atmosphere will be great so it really is an event to attend.

Hopefully go away certified Hibs fans

It is grim - Scotland / football belongs to a bygone era.

Compare the atmosphere around a football match with that at the Open golf, athletics world championships, Wimbledon, Commonwealth Games - even rugby league and rugby union or the womens world cup.

If you were a broadcaster or sponsor, who would you want to be associated with?

And still the best clubs can come up with is "that's the way it's always been".

Football in Scotland will never die, but it's never going to thrive.

If it is, it's incredibly deep undercover.

There was a post with the same request on r/hibernianfc a week ago. The advice was to try 1) contacting the ticket office and 2) try on here and the bounce.

previous postings from that person are in r/Minneapolis looking for a building contractor, so I'd be amazed if it isn't the same person, and if so, it's an amazing, amazing concoction if it isn't real.

Which is one of the reasons Ron was complaining about the fixture list. Those games will sell out regardless, whereas if it was non Cat A games we could have added to the gate by promoting them to tourists.

I don't blame the club on this, it's a lose lose situation. Unfortunately football fans these days have continually demonstrated they can't be trusted to behave. Sure it's a minority of each clubs full fanbase but they're likely the ones who would buy the tickets to cause trouble.

Did anyone ask the stewards/police to intervene? Most people do not act like fandans at the football.

I agree BS44- for every twat there are folk that can keep a lid on it. There was a group of lads near my old seat in the FF Stand for the Rangers 5–5 game who’d brought a Rangers-supporting mate along. They had a laugh with him and kept it amongst themselves as that particular game went to and fro!

Was reading about that and seems a bit of an extreme move to only sell tickets to existing season ticket holders. Another example of Scottish Football’s campaign to make buying tickets to watch games as difficult as possible.

If only the Huns would behave themselves and not act like orcs.

It all kicked off before stewards had any chance, not that they were much use. If you are in the wrong end and celebrate a goal then you are a fandan. And generally in the vicinity of someone that will take offence.

I've witnessed it on a number of occasions.

Hope the guy who wanted a ticket got one and wasn’t a hun. Hopefully a couple of hibbys now.

Seen a few stag groups who hd managed to get tickets somehow. Same applies to them, hopefully going home hibbys

I wouldn't mind taking in the game if it was easy to get a ticket, suspect they will sell out their allocation though.

Haha that's fine I was just going to buy and suddenly got the fear that I'd be in amongst them

Just checked and it does say "away end".

You briefly gave me the fear that I'd already bought and would be in amongst them.

Yes, I was able to get two tickets thanks to a very nice fan!

The seats were great, the atmosphere was fun, and the guys who got the tickets met us before and after for some beers. Definitely the highlight of our UK trip for me, and my wife even enjoyed it too!

I’ll for sure be following hibs games once I get back to the states.

Not usually how most would describe contests between these rivals.
You may have sensed the "hatred"
Its way more than a century of dislike (too put it mildly)

Good you enjoyed the experience and the beer!
Oh...- and full marks to your ticket providers and pals for the day for trusting you were kosher :greengrin

You could consider subscribing to Hibs TV (International) watch all games live at your home and possibly hook up with other Hibs fans stateside .
Haste ye back !

Glad you and your wife enjoyed your day. As Mick said above, get yourself signed up for Hibs TV international, you'll get all the home and away games live. Kick off times aren't often Sunday lunchtimes, normally Saturday 3pm.

It was brilliant to meet you both, delighted Hibs managed to give you an incident packed match to watch.

Hopefully the extra few beers post match didn't affect the rest of your day too much and you enjoyed the rest of your visit.

At the very least you have helped spread the word about the cabbage in the USA

Where were you seated? I had a big American guy and his wife / girlfriend next time me on Saturday. First time I'd seen them in those seats. As they were strangers I actually felt I had to apologise for my language at half time due to Willie Collum. Hadn't realised he was an American prior to that. To be fair to them they definitely celebrated the Hibs goals like proper Hibees, but it's the first time in very nearly 50 years of going to ER that I've been high fived after the celebrations died down a bit!!

It was my mate that sorted them out with the tickets, I was just there for the beer and some better chat than I normally get from him!?!
