Passed away aged 93. A genuine giant of children's and family entertainment. Such an icon from many peoples childhoods whether it was The Wombles, Dr Who, Railway Children and dozens more.

Seemed a genuinely humble and decent person, too.

Sad to hear.

I'd imagine that, for many of us, his name brings back happy memories of watching him on TV when we were young.

Always seemed to be on Jackanory. Wise old warm Grand-dad type. Amazing longevity .

Rock n roll legend. Without him there would have been no Right Said Fred.

He was one of these guys that bridged several generations and kept disappearing and reappearing on our screens and was always immediately recognisable. People of my generation will feel they grew up with him. RIP Bernard.

He's here!

One of those well kent personalities whose passing, even though you didn't actually know them, makes you feel a little emotional. An all-round great guy. RIP.

He was sat in front of me at the theatre about 8 years ago. Scared the **** out of me as I though he was already dead.

Some career he had. Big part of many childhoods!
