Amidst all the chaos of Wednesday night, this was the one thing that actually seemed to work pretty well.
Say what you want about Campbell, he clearly has the drive and work rate and this position might actually suit him going forward.

Yeah, I thought he did alright there. Not sure it worked with him on the left though, be interested to see him on the right if we weren’t so well covered there already.

Is he left or right footed?

Perhaps , but a ( hopefully ) good player already signed , just keep him out of midfield please.

He wasn’t bad but he wasn’t under much defensive duress either.
He can only really use his right foot though as I remember Maloney having him out on the left at Parkhead last season and it was frustrating to say the least!

Ah. Maybe an option for RB then if Cadden's out and Miller turns out pish.

Did it? I can't say I thought it did.
Didn't add to us in an attacking sense and gave away numerous needless fouls.
I realise he was only there as 4th choice, but I'd be worried if it's tried again.

I was surprised that Newell didn't start at LB, and initially thought at the half the changes would see JN play LB. Gives much better balance to half a left footed player there. No guarantee it would have worked but the first half was brutal trying to go forward on our LHS.

Did okay.
I did notice however that he was the only player to reliably beat the first man with a cross.

I posted on another thread about how much controlled aggression he had in his game on Wednesday which is a big characteristic of a good full back (maybe not so much a wing back).
I’d love to see him at right back when that trait and characteristic is needed to see how he gets on.

He played right back late on in the Cup game v Cove in January
I actually he was more a wing back on Wednesday, then left back
Josh is a box to box midfielder, but not many teams play with this in the modern game

Josh is at his best when we haven’t got the ball imho. Full of energy as a mobile harrying player and he’s actually not bad when he gets the ball in the final third..it’s when he receives the ball in our half or the middle of the pitch thst he lacks confidence, touch and passing excellence. He knows this and most of last season he did his best to avoid receiving the ball which just puts everyone else under pressure.

Definitely does play to his best when when playing a more attacking role, all though not the most gifted footballer he does have than energy for high press and does get attempts on goal.
His only downfall when played a little deep can be his passing sometimes but I do agree there was nothing wrong with his performance at left back but definitely shouldn't be the option going forward.

Best when doesn't have the ball ? Great trait for a midfielder, just my humble

I thought he got up and down the park and gave it a decent shot. But he didn’t have anything to do defensively and didn’t offer anything going forward.
Hope it’s not something we see again.

He also played a number of games at right back when out on loan (at Arbroath I think). Has a lot of good attributes to be an attacking full back including a being a decent crosser of the ball.

I think very well is stretching a bit but did better than I expected. Still had a couple of daft moments but overall he was alright.

It shouldn’t be a go to option but in the absence of Stevenson and the Croatian lad, at least we have a deputy that causes minimal disruption. I really didn’t like Cadden there. It was a shame on the player, just like it was when Stevenson was occasionally shunted over to right back.
It helps to have a naturally left sided player playing there.
I do like Campbell’s “I’m just going to shut up and get on with it” approach though.

Only left back he should be is left back in the changing rooms. He's no where near good enough for Hibs!!

Josh is nowhere near good enough to be a first choice Hibs player if we want to improve on last season.
It's actually ok to read all these positives about him but realistically he's surely not in the managers plans.

This. How he is still at our club I'll never know. A brutal footballer.

I thought he did fine at left back. He got stuck in and looked more comfortable on the ball.
I'm not a huge fan, but it's clear that he is considered a first team player, he's played in every game.
Some of the comments on here are a bit much. I would like better quality on the pitch, especially central midfield, but's there's ways of expressing that without utterly trashing the guy.
I would focus my discontent on why guys like Campbell, JDH, Newell are still featuring regularly and why we haven't addressed an obvious problem area in the side.
