Barring his missed penalty, thought Aiden look far sharper today . His willingness to fight back when he loses the ball is something I didn't expect to see with him . His ability to beat a man one on one will get us a lot of goals this season.

Yeah, I think he looks the part.
Was surprised to see some criticism of him on the matchday thread as it didn't fit in with what I was seeing.
Pish penalty, hopefully he'll manage a bit better if he takes one with a bit more riding on it.
Doidge has disappointed me over the past couple of games. I wonder if we might see it all click a wee bit more in the final third when someone more mobile (like Youan) comes in to help link up Melkerson, Henderson and McGeady? There's not exactly been a shortage of goalmouth activity in the Falkirk and Bonnyrigg games that you might have expected to have led to even more goals?

Agreed about geeds. Also think Doidge will be very useful in some games, as usual, but a more direct pace option will help massively

Doidge was poor today I thought. These should be games he grabs a few goals and he was nowhere near scoring really. Needs to start making little runs in behind like he did against Clyde

While Doidge hasn't scored, you'll struggle to find someone getting to better positions than him. Should've scored twice in each of the last 2 matches. Not sure its a problem linking up, he just needs to finish those chances.

I tend to agree with your point about his ability to beat a man, the ironic thing about his penalty for me, is if he had stalled for a split second he would have had an empty goal to roll the ball into, but no-one should be face flak for missing a penalty for me.

Won a penalty and forced 2 very good saves from the goalie
2 efforts cleared off the line at Falkirk
3 goals vs Clyde
Quality player. Will score plenty if he keeps getting himself into these good positions. Real shame you will never even consider seeing his quality.

McGeady has obvious quality in the way he can just float past a player. I was also impressed with his tracking back. His final ball/end product has been a bit rusty so far though. More to come hopefully.

What about the low cross in 1st half ?
He is clearly one of our best players and will chip in with some goals and assists. He will also add another dimension to our team as he’s not scared to go at a player and try make something happen.
All other teams want him to fail - least give him some support !

Thought McGeady was probably our best player in the first half….looked dangerous , used the ball really well. Looks like he will bring some quality in the one on ones to us too…keep him fit and he will do well.

At the time I thought he was a bit disappointing today, but thinking back now he was did get by his man alot with crosses in from the byline (nice linkup down our right second half). Expect he will bring us a half decent end product this season, and an upgrade on the guys that held our wide positions at the end of last season.

Wow, 2 sclaffed goals and an easy chip. He failed to score at Falkirk despite getting into this "good" positions like you say, he even sliced wide in front of an open goal. Couldn't even finish a one on one to level the game in stoppage time. Hit it straight at the keeper with the whole goal to aim at. Good composed strikers put those away, which he is not.
Today, got a penalty because of a first touch like an elephant, missed and easy chance on the turn and was mostly outmuscled by his marker. His lik up play is woeful and I'm surprised he lasted 70+ minutes.
If he's our main striker then he's failed to score in the last two despite him getting into "good" positions. Worrying.

Doidge on his day offers us a lot. But the more I watch him the more I think it really shouldn't be difficult for us to find an upgrade.

Thought him, Melkersen and Doidge were all poor today. Looking for more from your attacking players against that type of opposition.
What I will say is that, although he’s not quite got going yet, there aren’t any concerns over McGeady’s attitude. He’s more than willing to work back without the ball.

He's played at a very high level. I expect him to get better as he gets more game time, he was poor v Falkirk but better today, shocking penalty though. :greengrin

Think your being unfair on melkerson . Asked to play wide most of the game and at one point basically a left midfielder . Kept plugging away and had a hand in a few goals .

Exactly. 1st was a great bit if improvisation to put the ball over the line with any part of his body. He did exactly what he intended to do. 2nd was a very composed finish and was by no means an easy chip and the 3rd was well put away after a little bit of luck when the ball fell nicely for him after he'd tried a 1st time shot from a pass that was slightly behind him and he didn't quite catch it right.

Looks finished to me but given the fact LJ says he has hardly played for 6 months willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and looking for the real deal once he builds up his strength match fitness and stamina and not just in brief glimpses once he has had the benefit of a full preseason

I dont think he looked finished at all
A few times he dropped the shoulder and went by his marker like they weren’t there. Still got very quick feet as well.
Think you can tell he’s still lacking match fitness but he didn’t looked finished

Not the biggest fan of Doidge myself and don’t think he’ll be starting much but again the name calling “big dumpling” “he’s murder” etc to one of our own players who’s gave nothing but 100% for us is embarrassing and not needed. Could surely put your opinions across without being so harsh about it.
The same thing happened to Rocky and we all seen it actually affected him. They’re still human.

He has only played bit parts in three games for us showing quick feet and a drop of the shoulder in cameos with no real end product tiring or being used sparingly
His fighting qualities for a 36 year old are admirable
Imagine those qualities a yard quicker where he can really get away from his man and cause serious damage against higher class opposition for a full ninety minutes
Now we are talking that is the Aiden McGeady I am looking for that is why he has had such a stellar career
He needs time to build up his match fitness and get back to peak condition
You might be talking weeks or months
He will know it himself let’s hope he can deliver

He looks particularly nimble to me.
If he was finished he'd be putting the ball places and struggling to get his body after it in time. He's beating fullbacks and getting balls in with decent regularity. Between him and Cadden there's an awful lot of decent service coming in from that side for someone.

A blind man and his dog knows they weren't lovely finishes, you must get some kind of kick out of winding people up.

They were good finishes though. Genuinely. Especially the second. It's actually pathetic folk can say a bad work about a Hibs player getting a 13 minute hattrick.

I'm still to be convinced by Aiden but your point is important. He is very different to other players in the squad and can offer that spark or creativity. If he is still well below fitness it may well work out really well. He has actually impressed me more with his efforts in tracking back and doing the less glamorous side of the game than he has with his tricks etc. That bodes well for the future and will cut him much more slack with supporters.

Doidge was poor IMO first touch let’s him down and didn’t link with melkerson who looked sharp. Hopefully Youhan can provide whenever he arrives that pace and holdup play that Doidge lacks.
