Seems Stevie Mallan, who's just signed for Salford, had a tough time in Turkey - didn't get paid. Not the first time I've heard players having similar experiences in Turkey.

There was a list of leagues published recently that players have been warned not to go to because there’s a risk of not being paid.
A Turkish league was one of them im sure but I don’t know if it was the one Mallan was playing in.

You hear the same story every year. Players go to Turkey being promised massive wages, they never get paid, rinse and repeat.
Doesn't seem as if any action is ever taken.

Posted on Martin Boyle thread but appropriate here too. Turkey in the 7.

If anything, it’s good to hear he’ll be a bit more savvy money wise.

That’s rough.
I’m sure he’s better off than most but anyone should rightly expect a contract to be honoured.
On the plus side, he’s picked up a belting tan!

I was listening to Alan Preston talking about this a week or so back (he's Mallan's agent). Said that when he was on loan he was paid promptly every month but obviously Hibs were still covering a chunk of his wage at that point. When he signed permanently the Bein TV deal in Turkey came close to being pulled and the deal eventually signed was some way short of the previous $500M contract so a load of clubs finances were about to be hit (and as has been said above Turkish clubs rarely give the impression of being financially stable anyway).
I got the impression Preston hadn't been keen on Mallan going there permanently but ultimately has to act on his players instructions. He did say there is a FIFA scheme in place for players hit by things like this and he will get most of his money, it's a fairly lengthy process though.

I’m surprised it was them who paid his wages when on loan. I thought it was usually the parent club that paid him and the loan club paid the parent club.

Good read. Think Hecky was crazy to get rid of Milligan

He wasn’t a bad player but I’m not sure it was the wrong decision to move him on…think it was more who he replaced him with!
Surprised to see him including Gauld

No Ambrose is more bizarre. Was absolutely exceptional when Mallan was here.

Gauld was probably one of those “couldn’t get the ball off him in training” types who the other players thought was brilliant but who made minimal impact in the first team.

Think Gauld’s time is wrongly assessed here. He was just gaining some form when he suffered a bad injury ..never really got any game time when he returned …so it’s unfair to say he didn’t make impact . He didn’t really get the opportunity post his injury.

Agree with this. When he did play you could see he had quality.
