For the avoidance of doubt I am talking about the club that plays in the Lothian & Edinburgh Amateur Football Association Premier League.

Watching the N Ierland game and watching the England game there is a difference in quality and fitness in both those two games.
I would imagine England would give the Star a game.
Physicality is the massive difference in the Men's game. Both can never fairly be played against one or other.
I coached in the Girls leagues for 5 years ,saw the likes of Caroline Weir, and many of the present Scotland team from 11 years old progress. You can't fairly compare the two.

Not sure what's to be gained by this tbh

A pointless comparison usually trotted out to belittle the women's game.

The women will never be competing against the men in any competition so what does it matter how they would fair against some random team you have picked out?

Serious question, what's your point?

It is a pointless comparison but then so is comparing teams from the 70s against teams now or comparing players from the 70s to now. There’s nothing to gain from it but we do it anyway because some people find it interesting to discuss.

It doesn’t mean the discussion can’t be had though and I don’t see why this conversation can’t be had either other than people not liking what will be the answer from a lot of people.

As an answer to the OP, I’d agree, Edinburgh Star would beat them.

Did a school boy team not comfortably beat the USA womens national team? Something like that anyway. It's an unfair comparrison though for obvious reasons. You wouldn't see women competing against men in any other main sport. I do think there is a massive gulf in quality between the best and worst womens teams though. More so than in mens football. I guess that will change over time.

Their game is improving massively with school aged girls playing with their boy counterparts for many years now and now having full time clubs and players. I’d say they will always be around the level of decent level u15-16 boys and I’d still favour going to see Hibs u18s with having a preference for a higher level of football

It's not that people won't like the answer. No one denies the physicality would win the day.

As said, a question like this often just belittles women and has zero value.

Was this not all settled back in ‘73 when Billie Jean King beat former Mens #1 Bobby Riggs 6-4 6-3 6-3 ?

He was 55 at the time …tbf. It’s an irrelevant OP …there are clearly major physiological differences between adult men and woman that make it harder for equality in a football field

It is that people won’t like the answer.

The question only ‘belittles’ women because the answer from a lot of people will be that the women would get beat. It wouldn’t be belittling if the answer was that the women would play them off the park and win 10-0. So it really is that people won’t like the answer.

I agree it has no value but then neither does loads of stuff discussed on here. It doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be discussed though.

Quite what made the OP choose Edinburgh Star out of all the random teams to choose is the bit that interests me the most :greengrin

:rolleyes::yawn:

What is the point in these comparisons? Do we wonder who would win a boxing match between world and Olympic champion Katie Taylor and some 50 loss journeyman?

This has all been done before about 2 days ago. Let's not.
