Didn't know that.
If I remember right he had a knee injury he struggled to recover from. Scored an absolute screamer against Rangers.

Did Graeme Donald not start as a promising full back but then sort of get shifted between full back and forward without really excelling as either?

Always had a soft spot for Boothy, he was an absolute revelation when he came back from his loan and got put into the side around January or so. Thought we had found the equivalent of what KT etc would be today for those few months.
Think Fenlon didn't fancy him and never really recovered in a Hibs jersey after that. Was delighted to see him get back to the Premiership and, despite it being at our expense, was happy to see him win the double with St Johnstone.

My first memory of him is him scoring a few goals towards the end of the 1991/92 season (I think) as a very young player, disappearing off the scene for a bit then re-emerging as a full back but never really looking comfortable there. Scored against the huns though in the first game after Miller was sacked from full back. Maybe even the winner?
Edit: actually first memory might be from the BP Youth Cup winning team of the early 90s.

Thats right. Think he scored loads for the youth team that won a league and cup double and suddenly appeared in the first team as a right back.

Donald’s first appearances in the first team were as a striker - think he scored in his first two appearances IIRC. Think he was only 17 at the time.
Did eventually play mostly as a full back, but came in as a striker.

Cheers for that (and to the other replies), I knew there was something about him being highly rated, a full back and a striker at times, think I just got the order mixed up.

Yes I think when he became a more regular feature in the team it was at full-back. Pretty sure he got a serious knee injury not too long after making his debut and he was never quite the same after that.

Yeah think there was a lot of excitement when he came in and scored at such a young age.
Think Christian Dailly was similar at Dundee Utd, started off in the first team as a striker, scored in his first few games at only 16. Goals dried up and he eventually converted into a defender. Obviously went into have a better career than GD.

Think his first game was away at St Johnstone, played as a striker, and he scored.

Pretty sure Zambernardi was signed as a CH and made a few appearances at LB. Think he played there when we beat Hearts with ten men at ER thanks to O’Connor’s late winner.
A far less happy memory of him is when he just lumped the ball up the park from kick off in the 4-4 draw at Tynie, which gave the ball straight to them and got them up the park for the equaliser.

I remember Craig Brown saying he almost selected him in the squad for a friendly v France in 2000, when all of the regular Scotland right-backs were out. Ended up giving Paul Telfer his one and only cap.
