I know best wishes have been sent in various threads, but I think Josh deserves a thread of his own. Been great watching his rapid development from a loan at Queens Park to first team star at Hibs.
Great deal for both parties, Serie a football and going from a beautiful city to another beautiful city. Really hope he goes from strength to strength, cheers Josh.

Hopefully a role model and inspiration for other academy players to do well and get a similar move. Really happy for him.

It’s a great move for him. Lovely place, great weather and most importantly a superb level of football. He’ll see himself coming up against some top class players over there.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see him end up in the EPL pretty much doing a carbon copy of what Hickey has done so I hope we have as big a sell on fee as possible!

Good luck josh hope it turns out well for you. They are not happy on keekback though. After months of saying hibs were deluded saying he was going for decent money, its now all about how he will be a failure and its daylight robbery that hibs somehow got £3m for him. Superb.

Because Joe wasn't going to a bigger or better club. It was, at best, a sideways step.

That supporters were unhappy at Joe leaving had nothing to do with who he was transferred to.

Anyway, i wish Josh well and maybe Hendo will give him some advice on life in Italy.

However,it seems Josh has said his goodbyes to all at the club.
So unless his medical goes/went wrong !!!

Wish him well.

Very good player for us and, if it wasn't for the sizeable fee, I'd be disappointed right now. As it is, he's taking the next step in a very promising career.

If the rumour of Josh going to Hellas turn out to be true - is he going to a bigger or better club? By history, tradition & fanbase, I'd suggest he's not.

Yep, it's one of the top 5 leagues & overall standard will be better than Scotland, but mid-table clubs like Hellas or Bologna etc whilst sounding glamorous to us, really aren't. It's a great opportunity, but at best it's a potential stepping stone to something better, a la Hickey.

I get what you are saying about the EPL but I'd love for him to make the step up to one of the Italian giants if his performances continue to improve. Would be great to have a Scottish player be a regular for the likes of AC/Inter. A long way off that right now but who knows

Torino have won far more honours than the club Josh is signing with.
Bigger or better ? Torino may be better known.
Joe Bs transfer fee would be equivalent to around 3m nowadays.
So big bucks for Hibs at that time.
Torino paid £75.000 for Joe at the same time as they paid £110.000 for Denis Law
Mega money in them days !

Apologies for digressing, folks!

Supporters were angry when it was leaked that the club refused Joe a pay rise of a fiver a week to top up his £12 weekly wage !
He wanted to stay !

Hellas did win Serie A in 1985, the last such time a non big city club won it. Although given that's also the last year a club outwith the Old Firm won the Scottish title possibly means he's signed for the Italian equivalent of Aberdeen.

I just want him to go to the EPL because Verona would stand a better chance of rinsing one of them money wise and we’d then get a bigger cut :greengrin

If it wasn’t for that though then I’d agree - would love to see him end up at one of the Italian giants or even a Roma/Lazio.

Hi Fred
No anger at Joe at all in my post!
Pre Bosman the club held all the cards in these matters.
Of course the anger was aimed at Harry Swan.
I still recall the song supporters sang in the wake of Joe leaving
To the tune of the Hibs song, one line went.

"We'll hang Harry Swan wae a rope aroond his neck"
A sad footnote to a man of vision for the Scottish game.

Jimmy of course like many thousands was devastated when Joe left .
However on Joe's return,he played up front with him !

Wish him all the best, a great move for him and us, 3 million quid is good money and as others have said hopefully with a decent sell on clause. Given that he was binned by Hertz and so was Cummings perhaps we should inform all Hearts kids that if they get released they will get an automatic 3 month trial at Hibs :greengrin

On a serious note, Lewis is a steady reliable guy to fill the left back slot, but we simply must make a serious attempt to find his replacement now, it simply isn't fair to expect him to play a full season, he should be an extremely reliable back up, not a first choice by this point.

You should try and catch a Development Squad game this season and check out Oscar McIntyre. I watched him in the U18s at the end of last season and he will be 18 next year.

Great news for Josh hope he does great over in Italy.
Apparently LJ is considering putting Newell at left wing back [emoji50][emoji46][emoji85] he was talking about playing central midfielders at wingback for Sunderland and said it worked so thinks about doing the same with Newell.
I remember when we brought Newell to the club and he was rank on the wing. Hope we get someone in to replace Doig.

Anyway we'll done Josh you have been brilliant for us!!!!

I read that comment earlier as well. Reading between the lines , it made me think that Lee Johnson doesnt see newell as a starter in his first choice midfield..

I think this is a good move all round. I was wowed when Josh first made the first team. If im totally honest I thought he stalled a little last season in what was a difficult season all round for Hibs.
Playing for a top flight club in Italy will progress him as a player and indeed as a person. A fantastic opportunity. Verona get a cracking prospect and we get a very tidy sum in return.

From a Hibs perspective woukd i have Josh in the team this season or have 3m. Im happy with the money.

BAnderson has already confirmed that hearts agreed “a set 6 figure fee”. It ain’t going to be a set fee of more than say half a million as how do they know at the time of purchase that they’re going to even sell him on for more than they paid?

They're arguing amongst themselves on kickback. Evening news has given them four variations of what they will receive. Seems they will get a 'six figure sum' so anywhere from £100k to £999,999 but seems they think it will be the lower end

It has to be really low - I remember being surprised at the time that Hearts had let his contract run down - it can only be a nominal fee as he was in the last year of his contract when he left.

if it was a decent fee they would name it. It’s clearly not so the suspected £150k is probably right.
