Johnson has come across as a great communicator - much more of a natural than his last couple of predecessors I think. As the cliche goes, I hope he can get his team talking on the pitch as well as he's come across in interview.

That will be McGeady then?I spoke to LJ at the Q & A McGeady has shook hands on a deal with Hibs and is getting a medical tomorrow to check his knees in the main. No problems anticipated. The other player who he didn't name said we'll have never heard of him. He's from foreign climes, has a good pedigree, is a 6ft striker and in Lee's words is rapid fast. Both will be announced in the next 48 hours. He's hopeful another two will be coming in but players will have to be moved on two facilitate that. He spoke very well and I for one can't wait for the season to start

Yes Rocky was 2nd question, detailed answer as to what happened with the contract but they are supportive of him and asked fans to get behind him ,like most in the room I am won over by Johnson ,promises exciting football accepts we will take the odd beating ,really enthusiastic about the boy from Leeds and youngster from Benfica he went to great lengths to sign him and miller ,a lot on sport science ,pace in the team and attacking football and understanding of beating hearts it was so refreshing given the dire stuff we have played last few years ,yes the proof is in the pudding but I’ve bought in like most there ,hope you all will too .

I am a little concerned at the "we'll take an occasional beating" line - that's the second time I've seen it from him. I'd rather an approach of commitment to attack but willingness to tighten things up when a team is countering that effectively. Still excited though and hoping for football similar to the Mowbray years.

That gives me the fear about our centre halfs, one of Rocky, Mcgregor or hanlon is going to be a starter and if porto stays and gets suspended which is highly likely we have Any two of rocky, Mcgregor and Hanlon at the back, wow.

Our defensive record wasn’t that bad last year, it’s the midfield I worry about, lacking real quality and drive in the middle of the pitch.
Dunno why folk are so desperate for McGeady, past his best, barely kicked a ball since November etc.

Our defensive record wasn't that bad purely because we wouldn't allow other teams the ball under maloney, our games were a snoozefest every week, wouldn't let our defensive record last year cloud your judgment on individual players at the back, if we play more open we are more open to counter attacks, Hanlon and Mcgregor are past it, and Rocky has shown till now he's not up to the required standard. Our full backs also are not defensive minded, I would question Doig's defensive capabilities, caddens not a natural defensive player either if he plays right back, can't comment on Miller till we've seen him in the green and white, same with Kenneh if he's the holding mid.

Sound very similar to Mowbrays era. We could be brilliant but did take the occasional battering. Usually from our neighbours.

By ‘beatings’ does he just mean get beat? Which will happen. I can’t think many managers would be predicting heavy defeats.
All sounding pretty positive. Except for the Rocky comments, if a player has said that then shame on us, we are better than this as a group of ‘supporters’. The clue is in the name.

As great as the Football was a lot of the time under Mowbray, the 4-0, 4-1 defeats at Tynecastle and 4-0 at Hampden to them, all in the one season, was shocking. That can't be seen as acceptable again.
No team should be saying "we'll take occasional beatings".

Rocky was a Shaun signing. He wanted him but there was concerns about injuries so rather than buy him outright in January there was a clause that if he played 50% of the games he was available for, he’d become permanent.
There was a difference between the end of the loan date and the start of his contract which is why he was included in the article thanking the loans.
Johnson says regarding development and game time, rocky should be viewed as a 19yr old. Says he’s an absolute beast physically. So strong. But needs a lot of defensive coaching and they will work on him for that. Has all the right attributes.
But needs loved. Is a confidence player.

That sounds great if we're playing the likes of Motherwell, Livingston and Ross County. I really don't want us to open up against high scoring teams like Celtic in the certain knowledge that we'll ship a barrowload.
That's not good for players' confidence not to mention our defensive record and goal difference.
We used to take a lot of 4, 5 and 6 goal beatings from that lot and I hated it. I very much doubt that the fans' reaction to gubbings of that nature will be at all stoic.

Some will be angry, others won't mind if we've been off our seats with the attacking football that's led to the defeat.
I don't think he's predicting it, anyway- more managing expectations.

That's a nice scenario, Matty, but the truth is that attacking flair quickly drains once a team has conceded 2 or 3.
I love attacking football and I really hope that's what the team will provide, but there's still a need to counter opponents' strengths.
I definitely do not want heavy defeats to THEM.

It’s just a fact.
If he was saying we will never get beat I’d be more concerned. He’s a pragmatist who is developing a new team, new style of play, so there will be a variety of results along the way. It’ll be next season before he will be promising 100% wins.

He's out of contract next summer and genuinely can't believe there's no interest in him.
I can't help but think he's going to be pinched Ali McCann style at the end of the window for a pittance.

'Taking a beating' was also referred to as 'taking a pasting' in the interview he did with the Pods, this certainly doesn't indicate just a loss.
I get the pushing to get back in to a game, i'm sure we'd all be behind that but it's not as if any previous manager thought they would sit back and limit the damage, we've just not had the personnel on the bench to change things.

Good summary of what was said regarding Rocky, Callum.
Johnson comments last night about Rocky's limitations made me think we'll not see him playing regularly for the first team for a while. I think he'll get some game time in the League Cup ties but will probably be used sparingly in the league until he's up to the level required.
With Johnson admitting he'd been planning to use Harry Clarke as a centre half this season and he doesn't think Rocky is ready, that leaves us a bit short of central defenders which really needs to be addressed. Porto and Hanlon will be the starters I imagine but that leaves us with McGregor as back up and he'll be 37 in August.

Rocky needing "a thousand hours of defensive coaching" were words the manager used, I don't see him featuring much initially. Likewise Melkerson, he praised his attributes, but talked about need for coaching in basics to fulfill potential, neither of these two should have been starters last season, and won't be starting next season playing a lot of first team football I don't think.

Remember the 5-5 game? Cruising along then bam level. Most times we would have tried to play match out but still went for it lost a couple more but crucially kept going for it and pulled it back at the death before air traffic control gave Lenny Airlines permission to take off.
If that what he means I'm in. One of the best adverts for Scottish football ever.

Going on how his teams play and some of the results at Sunderland we’ll probably take a couple of quite large defeats at Ibrox/Parkhead. As long as we counter it by winning well in some of the games against the other teams I think he’ll do alright

I like seeing us have a go. If we go to Parkhead and Ibrox and at least attack and have a go and end up with a skelping I can take that. If we sit back, defend and take a skelping, that's a different story.
We'll not win every game-nobody does, but if we play to attack then we should be ok.

Slightly concerned about an element here. I take the view that we need at least another five signings who are not young prospects but players who can do it from the off - one in central defence, one in midfield and two upfront. Let's say McGeady is one of them, the other guy we just don't yet know but let's give the benefit of the doubt. That leaves us looking for three more but whether we can bring them in depends on shifting others out first?
If that doesn't happen we are going to have problems. Our squad needed a major overhaul - particularly the starting eleven. McGeady - even assuming he stays fit for most games, which is a big supposition - is not going to be able to carry the rest by himself.

How do you know this?
The CEO and manager were very clear last night, so if you are correct they were misleading us, which I can't see much point in.
The player himself said it. Several other players repeated it when they spoke with fans at events towards the end of last season.
O’Neill came up to watch him and left when he was subbed
Arsenal had clauses inserted for a reason and have history of doing this
CEO’s and managers will say what they need to say at the time.

I was trying to being kind to Rocky by not repeating the exact words the manager used.
Harry Clarke and the Hibs players knew fine well he wasn’t coming back to Hibs, any suggestion that LJ believed he had him for next season is nonsense.
According to Johnson Arsenal recalled Clarke last Friday, the day before our pre-season training started so I think I'll give the manager the benefit of the doubt on this.

Kensell said they always knew that Arsenal preferred him to go to a Championship club so that was always a possibility.

What were people's views on Kensall?
My thinking is that he's not very good at his job and a lot of our problems started with his appointment.
Did he impress anyone? Piss anyone off? Or all a bit meh?

I was really impressed with him tbh. Spoke well, happy to admit mistakes, he’s honest and has passion.

He’s emotional and saw this personally on more than three occasions) and isn’t shy in giving his opinions of ex or current employees.
However, I think he also has a passion and knows what he wants to achieve (prob a CEO job in the EPL!) so knows that he has to deliver here or it’s back to a Commercial Role in football.
I think he’ll upgrade the things he can really control (infrastructure projects) but sitting on a recruitment committee with another one learning on the job (IG) and seeing income shrink from poor on the field performances will see him leave within 12 months by mutual consent/other job.

I'd personally rather we'd just won 3 nill. Much rather a ruthless Hibs than a sloppy Hibs who blow a lead like that.

The 5–5 game isn't really an example of any kind of footballing philosophy. We needed to win by six goals so tightening up at 3–1 or whatever wouldn't make any sense.

Thanks for the replies.
It would be good to hear from him if they do the Hibees Buzz tv thing again when the season's started.

Correct.
Worth mentioning as well that Sevco were reeling at 3-0 and Whittaker almost made it 4-0 before they finally caught us on the break.

We will win some and we will lose some thats the name of the game, with luck over time we will win many more than we lose, not gonna get ma knickers in a twist over his use of words. It's fitba after all every team will get beat now and again.
