Are they closer to buying the Champions League by signing Haaland ?

I'm not sure. Many have said this every season, and it's not like they aren't already blessed with world class talent.

Liverpool are paying more for Darwin Nunez than Man City are for a far superior Haaland.

It's a release clause Vs no release clause. It's not a good comparison.

You're talking only in transfer fees too. The bonus for haalands cronies will be disgusting, reportedly almost as much as the transfer.

EH is brilliant and the better player, but his injury record is something to worry a bit about for city.

I'm just not sold on him. I know I'll take flak for it, but I just don't see either him or Nunez working out long term.

What giant clubs aren’t funded by one or a mix of;

• dodgy petro state
• dodgy billionaires
• dodgy debt

I guess you can get into degrees of bad, but they are all ‘buying’ their success with a mixture of their owners questionable income and as much they’ve been able to squeeze out the fans.

They're all International Selects as far as I see it, no identity.

The teams with loads of money are International selects, do I have to be vetted by you before expressing an opinion ? I sincerely hope not, if the vast majority of folk disagree with that opinion I'm OK with that.

Of course Liverpool, barca, real, man u, celtic whoever have an identity. But they are McDonald's big business teams of the glory hunter. I've no problem with city or Liverpool fans from the area, good luck to them they got lucky. But they are supplemented by billionaire cash and glory hunter fans from all over the UK and the world. Everything that is wrong with football

Depends on what you mean by identity.

As the previous poster said, Liverpool, like all sides now in the top leagues, are an international select.

They are not playing local lads who grew up supporting the team.

Some could argue that severely dilutes a teams identity.

It's just plain wrong to claim Liverpool do not have an identity. You can get all defensive if you want but it's utter pish and there is a ridiculous amount of evidence to prove it.

You are correct. I should rephrase that to say there are very few players within the squad who are local.

Not even saying I agree with it, but I can see how others might think that.

You have said the other poster is talking pish though, without clarifying what you both mean by 'identity'. Both your definitions of identity might differ wildly.

You need to take a deep breath and count to 10 before you run the rule over everybody's post, you have a really aggressive attitude towards things that you don't agree with, I'm not opposed to specific clubs or their real fans.
enjoying success it's just the direction that sport not just football is taking, it is very depressing.

Boston Red Sox franchise team of worldwide mercenaries is how I now see Liverpool. If the owners could they probably would be playing at Fenway Park. Very few likeable teams at the elite level for me. Both Haaland and Nunez look absolutely quality to be fair. I suspect/fear they are probably one more signing away from finally buying the champions league. The competition in the elite leagues is probably worse than our league now which is pretty funny.

City will win the champions league sooner or later.

people used to bait Chelsea fans for years after Abramovich took over about the fact they couldn’t win the CL. Until they did. Twice.

As someone who has no interest or love for any of the elite European football teams I would say Liverpool have the most unbearable fan base of the lot. A Celticy 'we're something special and different' smugness about them despite the club they follow being as bad as the rest.

there is something a bit weird about people that consistently need to proclaim themselves “The best fans in the world”. And I’ve heard that a few times from the two clubs you’ve mentioned.

I love watching klopps Liverpool play though.

Alan Shearer and Micah Richards were discussing Liverpool fans and both said they always found that at Anfield the fans respected the opposition players more than anywhere else. The Kop end still applaud the opposition keeper as he takes his place in the goal too, been doing that as long as I can remember.

Liverpool were excellent in Europe before the champions league came about and I respect that, I just wish the format was like it was in the 70's with the European Cup, The Cup Winners Cup and the Fairs Cup, there was still a gap but not like it is now.

thats all great, of course it is.

I’ll never understand though why it’s not simply enough to know you have a great support. Why the need to make sure that others know it too? It’s an almost child-like need for validation.

it’s not just Liverpool and Celtic either. Newcastle fans can be a bit that way inclined too.

and after all, they can’t all be right.

Plastic? Don’t talk pish. Just because they are so successful and have a worldwide fan base alongside the many thousands of local supporters doesn’t in any way make Liverpool “plastic”

What about the old firm or people from the north of Germany that don't like their local team but like bayern. No offence to the locals that support their club, but big teams are all the same worldwide. Hoover up the glory hunters and players from bellow. I see people on my social media every week from edin going down to support their other team Liverpool. My dad supported them too, I he was the same as you.

Same as the old firm fans who say that, you never hear them defend themselves supporting morton or Darlington because their dad supported them

Obviously it doesn't apply to actual scousers
