Mental end to the play off game with Auxerre. They lost on penalties at home fans invaded the pitch and start lobbing flares and smoke bombs at main stand assume towards directors box

Sad to see a team in green and with a great history get relegated. I hope they return very soon.

I actually think Petrie may be to blame for St Etienne’s failure.

Until recently they had won more titles than any other French side, and obviously a fine European pedigree as well. Incredible fall from grace for a still big club with passionate fans. And one of the all time iconic strips as well.

I was at Old Trafford a few years ago when they played Man United in the Europa League when Mourinho was manager. It's a sad day.

That's a shame. Their fans were brilliant back in 1976 at Hampden.

Always liked Les Verts. Still France's most domestically successful club, although tied with PSG on titles now (10 each.) Shame to see them go. Bordeaux relegated too. Not good for French football.

Kinda puts to bed the argument about flares / smoke bombs. Indefensible when potential for that sheet goes off. Fair amount of lunacy has gone on authorities will clamp down and rightly so. Some may have thought talk of someone getting killed was wide of the mark but wow! That was mental. The watch out is that families start to think twice about attending games.

Punishment for a previous indiscretion. Should be absolutely hammered for that imo could easily have resulted in fatalities. Looks like they have an amazing support however needs an element to be banned forever

One of the issues at the CL final appears to have been local folk trying to force their way into the stadium

Both grounds used by Scotland for the '98 world cup.

Regular punishment in Ligue 1, most weeks at least one big club has a tribune closed, usually for pyros or missile throwing. Payet has been hit by missiles in three separate games this season (Haymaker not seen for a few days either side of each incident, spoken to but not charged with any offence:greengrin ) and that’s just one player.

Crowd trouble is now the norm and the ultra groups don’t seem to care when a whole tribune gets closed down. It’s a real problem and it’s getting worse.

The people who Govern our countries are found again and again to have no respect for the law. Former French President Sarkozy was convicted twice of corruption, and there is a huge ongoing scandal with regards to corruption involving the current President Macron. Our own Westminster Government are past masters at making laws but ignoring them themselves. This all comes from the top, people see that those who govern, ignore the law and do what they want...so people decide they should follow suit. Why should any ordinary citizen stick to the laws of the land when those in power are taking us all for mugs.

Don't get me wrong, I deplore the scenes of violence, but I do feel that the way we are governed leads to law breaking.

Definitely. I think the ball was burst for some people following the covid rules, after Cummings got away with not following them. Little did we know that number 10 was like a filming of caligula.

:agree: I think you’re both right, there’s a growing feeling of rage with the establishment, especially the political establishment, in both countries, in the young and urban centres especially. For some reason in the French this manifests itself in a good old fashioned riot, the English not so much yet. Older people get involved in stuff like the Gilets Jaunes but for lots of kids it’s ultra groups.

Imo this is all calculated ploy and it all plays in their hands
Shame on them all - the chances of a similar level of compliance (in an effing Pandemic) - zero. Which is bad for the health of vulnerable and unsuspecting others, essential workers. But lockdowns are bad for business - they are also bad for mental health and needs a balance.

but this encouragement of “lawlessness” simply plays into the hands of the Tories. And it’s the poor and disadvantaged that will suffer as the book is thrown at them.

I don’t condone violence but I can we’ll see things spilling over once things really start to kick in. It cyclical and a scenario that seems to emerge under the Tories. When it does they can crackdown and out more Bobbies on the beat - after running them down for years all to the satisfaction of daily mail readers.

Because western main stream media is full of lies, havent you worked that out yet.

I know the thread was about st etienne but if you read through it, the thread turns to liverpool champs league final.
