The musician, nicknamed "Fletch", founded the band in Basildon, Essex, in 1980.
Depeche Mode have sold more than 100 million records worldwide, and have had international chart success with songs including Personal Jesus and Just Can't Get Enough.

Absolutely devastated. Had a few good few nights in his company on the last few tours and friends with some of his family. A really genuine and down to earth guy for a member of such a massive band. Huge Chelsea fan, he was at the cup final the other week and was looking fit and healthy. Still not heard what happened. A real shock.
