The last pre season friendly I attended in Portugal was far from friendly.I`m guessing that`s one of the reasons why Hibs and other teams don`t announce overseas friendlies till last minute if at all . Other reasons too . I assume you`re referring to Notts Forest in 2013 .
What is the idea of hot weather training ? Why play in southern Europe at the hottest time of the year as a way of preparing to play a season in Scotland ? I realise that there are big training complexes in Marbella , Algarve etc which get many teams from all over Europe in winter which probably offer great rates in summer especially in late June before Spanish teams want to do their pre season stages and flights to Spain / Portugal are probably cheaper than to Finland for example . In 2013 , we played the SC final on about 28th May . Less than a month later we played a friendly in Dumbarton , then hot weather training with matches in Gibraltar and Algarve in first week of July as preparation for new season which started with game in Malmo which was probably about 20 degrees colder than southern Portugal . Team was clearly not prepared for season with disastrous result at home v Malmo . To Fenlon`s credit , he picked team up quickly and we went on a great run before he left but I`m sure he questioned pre season plans . This year we`ll be starting our LC matches on 9th July so very soon after Portugal if confirmed .

I'll be there. I'm hoping Jeff S may make it too.

Yep. We played Forest managed by Billy Davies at the time. Pissed up Forest fans fighting amongst themselves before the game and then the game itself.
