View Full Version : Gallery Restaurant - Dress Code

Me and my mrs have treated ourselves to hospitality for the game on Sunday, but have never actually watched a game from there previously.

Does anyone know how strict the dress code is in the Gallery Restaurant on a matchday? I know it says no jeans/trainers, but would a polo shirt and 'smart' jeans/trainers be allowed? Travelling up on Friday night so want to make sure we pack the right stuff!

The dress code isn't very strict at all.

I've been in a few times and whilst most people are wearing shirt and tie for men and smart dresses/top and trousers for women, people have been in wearing polo shirts and jeans.

It also says no football colours but two people at our table the last time I was in a few months ago had Hibs scarves on.

Seems like once you've paid your money they aren't really bothered despite the blurb on the website.

Tbf I emailed the club and they said they aren't too strict as long as it's smart jeans/trainers etc so that'll do for me. Lockdown savings treat!

You'll be fine with jeans and smartish trainers. Not strict at all

Myself and Mrs have been lately and frankly very disappointed at the dress code of some in the restaurant. I always go smart casual even with my Hibs tie on but on the last two occasions observed some in there with jeans and trainers and not smart jeans or trainers either

When departing I met Ron Gordon and his Mrs on their way to the car park and had a nice chat before I brought up the dress situation I reminded him about the information issued for the restaurant regarding dress code and informed him about some of the customers not adhering to this. He was very disappointed to hear this and told me he would do something about it

It's something that irks me a bit as well.

I love getting dressed up; if I'm out and a shirt and tie, suit, blazer etc won't look out of place then I'd actively choose to wear it. I like putting outfits together, mixing and matching stuff and so on. I get that people will argue it's elitist or whatever but I disagree, dressing semi formally isn't restricted to any one group imo. I suppose the fact I actively enjoy dressing up clouds my judgement on it a bit, if others are more comfortable in jeans and trainers then they more than likely see it totally differently.

I wouldn't actively complain if a dress code was breached anywhere but if it isn't expected to be adhered to then why not just scrap it altogether? I don't really like that idea either, again it's not about being elitist but I think in some settings it's just nice to see everyone dressed up. We spend most our lives in casual clothing now, an excuse to dress up a bit should be welcomed imo.

I've never understood these sort of questions. If it says no jeans or trainers, then don't wear jeans or trainers. Is it really such a hardship to be smartly dressed for a few hours?

Hate 'smart casual' as a dress code description. Entirely subjective. Hospitality really shouldn't be jeans and trainers.

Especially when you see photos of supporters at matches in the 50s, 60s and even 70s wearing shirt, tie and jacket as standard in all areas of the ground, then surely it isn’t a hardship for the few that go to hospitality.

I’m overdue an IOU present I gave my dad in 2020 of a trip to hospitality. When we’ve looked before the option where drink is included seemed attractive as we thought we’d easily drink the difference in price between that and the package that doesn’t include alcohol, even allowing for my dad not drinking as much in his old age.

When I said that to my partner’s dad who goes relatively often to hospitality at ER despite not being a Hibs fan he said you’d really struggle to drink that much in the timeframe you have. He said it’s the same at other grounds’ hospitality that he’s been to too.

Surely not? Is he right?

Officially I believe Hibs include 8 drinks as part of the inclusive drinks package - unofficially it's as much as you want as long as you tip the waiter/waitress.

For a 3pm game the doors open from either 12 or 12:30pm and you get served alcohol up until around 2.30pm, there's no alcohol served at half time but afterwards you can get served until about 5.30pm.

Not sure what it would be like for a game like Sunday which kicks off at 12pm as I doubt there's much alcohol able to be served before kick off. May be added on at the end but not sure as I've always just gone to 3pm games.

Totally against ties. Blazer, shirt, shoes, dark jeans. All good in any restaurant.

Ok slightly better then, although I wouldn't be paying £10 per game to get into a bar area which seems to be effectively replacing what Behind The Goals used to be. Do you know if there is a "pay as you go" option for any of the hospitality packages and if so how much are they going to be?

I doubt if it will be £10 to get into a one off hospitality game.

I also hope a new version of Behind The Goals returns at some point as it's something I've personally missed this season although I wouldn't wish to pay to access it.

I’ve got all black leather trainers and black jeans that are way smarter than some old duffed up leatherette shoes and shiny arsed trousers.

Folk shouldn’t be turned away in most circumstances, but perhaps a suggestion that next time they might not meet the dress code would do.

Agreed. I thought (wrongly it seems) that it was going to be £200 per game for one of the one off hospitality packages which would have been a pretty big increase compared to current prices.

What appears to be the suggestion now is that this £200 is an annual cost but not necessarily for the hospitality packages (they'll presumably be even more expensive) but for the Albion Bar which seems to be Behind The Goals under a different name and location.

Hopefully there's been a misunderstanding in the communications here (not surprising with Hibs at the moment if that's the case) and we're getting the wrong end of the stick as charging £10 to get into the new Behind The Goals (which obviously used to be free for season ticket holders) would be ludicrous.

Hopefully we'll hear more soon. I seem to be on their mailing list after being in hospitality previously so will report back if I hear any more.

I think £600.00 for season with seat in West stand central, access to the bar before, HT and an hour after the game could be decent for the money.

But a flat cost £200.00 for access before the game feels a bit too much.

Tbh I don't have too much issue with the Albion bar pricing in itself. If we take Kensell at his word that BTG lost money then it may have been calculated that a certain uptake at £200 offsets that.

In saying that I'm sceptical about how much uptake there will be. £200 for access to a bar doesn't appeal to me
and I'm not sure who it does appeal to. There are all sorts of pubs a stones throw from ER. Places that allow kids, places that do food, old school fitba pubs, craft beer places etc etc. Beyond saving a short walk I'm not sure what gap in the market this is filling.

I've been fairly non fussed about us hiring owners family members, possibly appointing Jambos and the underwhelming hunt for a boss in general bit this is actually something worth moaning about (if true!). charging a tenner a time to access a previously free area to drink over priced, luke warm p*ss water is really taking the mickey.

Given the current cost of living crisis, I honestly can't believe the club think it's acceptable to charge £200 just to get access into a bar (where you'll undoubtedly be charged over the odds for drink).

It’s not a new BTG, it is the Edinburgh Suite moving down a floor and being split into two.

Currently, Edinburgh Suite season ticket holders pay £1350 for suite access, buffet food, a paid bar + seat in the west stand.

Many members of the Edinburgh Suite don’t partake in the buffet though and only use the bar so the new hospitality will split this into 2 new options.

Tornadoes - pretty much the same as the current Edinburgh Suite package but in a new location.

Albion Bar - current Edinburgh Suite package but without the buffet food included. I think the price is £750 for a season ticket so saving £600 for the folk who never partook in the buffet food.

The majority of places in the lounge will probably be taken by existing Edinburgh suite members however there is an option for people who wish sit outwith the hospitality sections to pay £200 to access the suite pre and post match.

We were in the Edinburgh suite for a couple of years, pretty sure it was around £1,000 a head, pay your own drinks and you got a buffer prior to the game, pie, team sheet etc. Looks like the Albion bar is that minus the food option, circa £600 seems fair enough.

Looks like The Albion Bar is what used to be Behind The Goals.

Cheers for that. Mrs snedz and me have been to hospitality several times but no email. Maybe we weren't smart enough!

While looking out onto the roof that was reversed into by a van about 5 years ago and hadn't been repaired last time I was in there.

Maybe there’s more to be revealed - some sort of “membership club” on top of a ST which could have other benefits such as priority tickets, member events, exclusive promotions and such?

Seems a lot just for access to a bar but as part of something more expansive then there could well be some interest.

I'm.sure on either a podcast or in a regular interview BK said they would be introducing membership schemes. I remember the discussions about Season tickets being devalued at the time.

Is it not just essentially a supporter bar that you can access before the game? It's basically BTG but in th west rather than the FF.

That's certainly what it's being explained as in the email I got today.

I hadn't noticed CapitalGreen`s post and more detailed explanation before posting mines, so that clears it up a bit.

I’ve explained what it is in the post you’ve replied to. If you have ever been to to the Edinburgh suite it will be more similar to that than what Behind the Goals was like. The suite will be restricted to members only, therefore you won’t have it reaching capacity and employing a 1 in 1 out policy like what happened at BTG when it was busy and where you often then had to stand in long queues to get served at the bar once you are in.

Are there any plans that you know of to have a new Behind The Goals?

No interest in hospitality except the old Gallery type of offering where you get a 3 course meal, inclusive drinks and player interviews but it seems like that may be too expensive from next season but really enjoyed the Behind The Goals format but won't be paying to get into it.

It was definitely discussed at the initial hospitality presentations that happened pre-covid with Billy Lowe rumoured to be involved. However would require a significant refurb of the North Stand facilities which would be difficult to justify without finding a way to make it profitable.

I never understood the love for behind the goals. It was always rammed, took ages to get served, rubbish drinks and over priced.

No the pricing is correct £200 for year long access. £750 if you want an exec seat with it.
Then it’s £1875 for the next one up. Then 2500, then 3500.

Can you get direct access from the Albion bar to your seat in the west or do you need to leave and re-enter through turnstiles?

When we were in the Edinburgh suite there was a ticket check on the way in then a door to direct to the staircase in the West so I’m guessing it’ll be the same set up.

I'm the same which is why I probably don't care about a £200 charge for this new set up. I just won't use it even if it is less crowded.

I know a lot of people liked the fact BTG was family friendly but I quite often take my daughter to The Mash Tun, Safari Lounge or Iona pre match and all of them let her in no bother (she's 4). Better food, better beer and better service than what BTG ever offered.

It had its flaws but as someone in a wheelchair who has to arrive early to guarantee a parking space it was the best option to go pre-match as the pubs weren't ideal.

This season I've had to sit in the car for about 2 hours which is also not great.

Really disappointing to hear that there's no plans for a revamped Behind The Goals as I certainly won't be paying tp get into anywhere except if I choose to do a one off game in hospitality.

Do you know what the one off cost will be for a game in what was previously the Gallery offering - i.e. pre-match meal and drinks, pie and coffee at half time and post-match interview with a player and drinks?

This season was 156.

Next season will be lucky to be 80 considering the £500 increase and lack of members willing pay the increase.

Dress code is relatively relaxed. Not sure if trainers would be sound.

One bit of advice… don’t get invested in the game and swear at any point.

Cheers, will play it safe with shirt and boots (no studs…), though it was my Mrs who was more bothered given the current dress and trainers trend.

Deliberately chose a quieter game just to enjoy the experience without getting too wound up about the game!

We went in February and the dress code is quite smart. I didn’t see anyone wearing jeans - mainly polo shirts and shirts with/without jumpers. No football colours. The other forum members gave us great advice before we went and it stood us in good stead!

You may want to ask not to be put on the sponsors table. We were placed there and they were not true supporters. Most of them had been invited the evening before the game to replace someone who didn’t want to go!

Thanks to all for their help. Had a really enjoyable day. Fantastic seats in West Upper, food and service were outstanding and good company on our table. Hope they don’t lose the spirit of things chasing the dollar a bit too much post-refurbishment. Would definitely do it again.
