Whatever happened to it ? 3 of the clubs funding it in bottom 6. One relegated. Anyone any inkling as to what was in it or had ot been quietly binned ?

There's a story going round that one of the recommendations (pushed by the clubs who commissioned it) was going to be no relegation from the top flight - it sounds like BS, but it wouldn't surprise me.

With American ownership/influence at many of the clubs involved, I think there might be something in this.
I hope it never comes to pass, I'd rather be relegated than part of a closed shop.

Ron Gordon makes Rangers 'advancing Scottish football' claim as Hibs chief teases Deloitte 'wow' factor - Football Scotland (https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/spfl/scottish-premiership/ron-gordon-makes-rangers-advancing-24596999)
'Ron Gordon has suggested Rangers (https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/all-about/rangers-fc) have advanced the Scottish game "more than any other club" thanks to their European adventures over the past three years. The Hibs (https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/all-about/hibernian-fc) chief also dropped a hint about the current Deloitte independent review and how the five clubs responsible for sanctioning that will soon be able to present their findings and future plans which contain a "wow" factor. Gordon (https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/all-about/ron-gordon) suggests a three to five year plan which will look to DOUBLE the revenue coming into the Premiership.'

Well he's not wrong really, and the ambition to increase revenue is something we have all been crying out for for a very long time.

Whist it’s an amazing initiative and carried out with the best interests of scottish football, unfortunately I cannot see anything changing whilst the current voting structure is in place.
Rangers and Celtic have no interest in changing anything. They qualify every year for Europe unchallenged and can attract top talent.
Without an incentive for those two, then I can’t see any changes being voted through.
The structure needs changed first and foremost and then these initiatives and schemes can actually be put into practice.

Was it not to do in part, with our TV deal being too low?

Yes and increasing the attractiveness of the league so all the clubs can make more money. Maybe some other aspects but it’s about adding value to the product or something along those lines.
We had the Henry McLeish report and I don’t think that changed anything?

Our TV deal is embarrassing quite frankly and those running the SPFL should be embarrassed. Good to see Ron looking for solutions and doing Neil Doncaster’s job for him.

That is essentially what he’s doing which is embarrassing for Doncaster.

Which is crazy, because these 2 also complain about Scottish football the most and regularly campaign to leave for the English leagues.

Well, if it doubled everyone’s income, they’d stay well clear of us, but be better able to compete in Europe.
Can’t see them objecting to more money, can see them objecting to a more equitable split of it mind you.

No relegation has been suggested before by Strachen. Im not in favour as the SPL already puts requirements on clubs coming into the league. If it was a bigger league then Hibs Rantic etc wouldnt get their 4 big money earning games so thats a no go as well. Gordon has shown an ability to raise revenue and has a background in sports media so Im sure there will be some innovative suggestions but relegation removal immediately makes a large part of the league stale.

No relegation has only been mentioned by one person who is a known slaver.
The review has been done by UK based consultants who will know removing relegation would be a non-starter in this country.

How is it Doncaster’s fault for the size of the tv deal?
Were any other firms offering more than Sky?
Should he just have said we want x or bolt, like we did years ago leading to the crap money now?

You can have a bigger league , 14,16, 18 even 20 and still have 4 old firm games and. Most of the time Hibs, Hearts, Aberdeen get their 4 games against each other as long as they get in the top 6. I think Gordon Strachan wanted a National league of 20, no relegation

I didn’t agree with Strachan re relegation but he did make a valid point about part time clubs having too much of a say in Scottish football. We have too many clubs in our leagues and eating into a modest pot.

He’s the one who’s meant to sell Scottish football to the tv companies and does a poor job of it. There’s plenty of sub plots within Scottish football that are marketable but it’s just resorts to Celtic vs Rangers.
He’s also failed to find league sponsors in the past and is basically hopeless.

Surely one of the recommendations will be around when our season starts and finishes. We are at a competetive disadvantage in Europe because the early stages are effectively in our close season period.
Switching to a February through to November league might help so we are on the same footing as the Scandie sides etc.
Also means our TV deal becomes a different prospect as there is a major league hiatus from May through August begging for someone to fill screen hours.
It would also open up the opportunity to do the 12-12 / 8-8-8 proposal properly for the FT pro teams and allow a different approach for the PT/Aspirant/Diddy clubs

BT pulled out though, they weren't even in contention this time around.
Sky aren't going to pay more than they have to, so it's take their money, or less if someone else comes in.

Or we could resurrect SPL TV- or some variation of it and live stream games. Maybe that would pay more. Ron is an experienced TV guy

The first proviso on TV games should include that both Rangers and Celtic cannot have televised games on the same weekend!
This gets boring to fans, Rangers home game on Saturday, Celtic away game on Sunday, then change it round next week!!!
TV money is great, but we all know the majority of it goes in the Glasgow direction, so Scottish football as a whole does not get a fair share?
The Old Firm have big crowds to supplement their greed for money, but when things go wrong, they blame other Scottish clubs for not being stronger like them!!!
Give us a bigger share and we will get stronger, and maybe even be able to match them!!!!
Rant over!!! The last line is never going to happen, they are not that stupid!!!!

The biggest problem for competition in the Scottish game is the 4 games
Hibs beat Rangers in 3 weeks
The Rangers only have one league game opportunity to balance the head to head against us
As it stands just now, there is every chance they could acquire the remaining 9 points from us
Playing twice would narrow the gap
The only problem is trying to persuade the Motherwell St Johnstone Livingston to agree
As we know they will be very reluctant

I’d be surprised if the idea of how to increase the TV money is to sell something like twice the number of games (at least) compared to the current deal. We’re never going to meaningfully increase the money by only selling 48 games a season. That also means that the rest of the league would get shown more.

One area of expansion would be to stream each clubs away games if not on TV live. Clubs probably got an idea of how much revenue they hit during lockdown for those games on PPV. Sure it might reduce away supports but wonder if the streaming would bring in much more
