Starting with Bobby Madden todays ref.
Some very strange decisions today again from him and it’s only half time. He’s got his head on upside down as well with that ridiculous beard thing going on.
Is he just incompetent or is there more sinister reasons behind his decisions ?

Portoeus would have been sent off if he made the tackle Bates was booked for on Newell.
Stonewall pen for the push on Melkersen.

Gallagher two hands on back of Melkerson, pushes him down, in the box. Nae foul?

Was it outside the box.
Was about 5 yards outside the box.
Madden didn’t have a clue what to do. It’s a strange one if someone takes a flying header at someone’s boot when trying to clear the ball.

Was it though, the aberdeen player jumped into clarke as he was clearing it, also dont think he actually blew for a free kick

I thought it was just in the box when contact was made but will need to see a reply to be sure. I thought it was a foul to Hibs if anything. Madden had another appalling performance and how the boy never got sent off for the foul on Newell is beyond me. It was a shocking challenge and miles worse than anything Porteous has seen red for this year

The Aberdeen player has the right to go for it, and Clarke’s boot was really high

Clarke’s boot was about waist height. Wasn’t a foul for me but I’d need to see it again. Hard to tell when the Dons players are doing what they do best and drop to the floor any time they get tackled!

I thought he missed a clear handball for Aberdeen in the first half followed by more strange calls and general indecision.
Think that’s only the second game we have had Madden this season after his awful league cup decision when we played Killie and he stopped the play when we were through on goal for a hamstring injury.

I’ll have to see it back again. I’m pretty sure his boot was closer to head height than waist height.

He is and always has been, absolutely terrified to book players and take control. A spineless referee. Goes back years with him.

It was right on the 18 yard line and his foot was head height. The Aberdeen player only bent his neck.

Yip, never seen that before by a ref, much like another time when he stopped play when an opposition player went down injured and we were through on goal😡

If no contact is made even with a high boot there is no free kick so says Dermot Gallagher.

I thought so too.
It was mental from HC, instead of simply clearing the ball he decided to flick it up to head height and tried a Kung fu kick volley clearance!
Edit: apologies, he didn't flick it up, he just let bounce up before his daft attempted clearance.

I don’t think that’s the reason, I think he’s part of this breed of refs who think they are there to “let the game flow” rather than apply the rules.
There’s a few European high profile refs that do the same. Plus the likes of Martin Atkinson in England. I do a lot of betting on cards and i would think twice before betting with these refs.

Is there still indirect free kicks for dangerous play? He'd have been as well doing that for the Clarke incident - clearly didn't want to give a penalty, so invented a free kick five yards outside the box.

His pacing out the “10 yards” near the end was just a joke. One decent step to begin with which would have been a yard followed by only 8 normal steps. About 8 yards at the very most, and that’s being charitable.
I was watching on TV, Madden definitely gave Hibs free kick for Aberdeen player's head being low. Then he changed his mind and gave the indirect free kick to Aberdeen

He's not letting anything flow, though. He stopped the game constantly, just terrified to book anyone

That was bizarre as we had taken the throw in. Clown makes up the rules as it goes along. So weak at their feigning injuries. Was delighted we got an equaliser and pity that we didn't get the winner.

Unlike Beaton in the League Cup Final who allowed Celtc to take a throw in despite the substitute being ready to come on.
I generally like Madden as a referee because he tries to let the game flow, so stopping play to allow a player who'd just feigned injury to come back on was an odd decision.

Was wondering if he played the full injury time as did the McRorie injury come in the injury time period?
Although you obviously don't want players to get injured there did seem to be an element of justice giving what appeared to be mcrorie acting the big man with the Hibs support not long before

The team doing it does that although he facilitates it.
Aberdeen are like dugs. They’ve become like their “owner”. That was Goodwin personified.

The strangest decision yesterday was the pass back on the goal line?
Aberdeen player stops the ball from going out for a corner on the goal line!
Madden gives an indirect free kick for a pass back, and the ball is placed on the 6 yard line for the kick to be taken???
I don't know if its a rule change, but to me it should be where the incident happened????

The man who sends Allan McGregor off for kicking McNulty in the back. Then gives Rangers the free-kick.

I did wonder the same myself - the angle from West down the opposite end looked close to goal line and free taken kick a bit further back. That explains it so cheers for the clarification.

Potentially even in the box, and definitely head height:

It looks like Madden telling Clarke to go away was interpreted, wrongly, as him saying it was Hibs' freekick, then after he checks on Ferguson he actually communicates the decision.

New glasses required for me then!
Looks like Clarke won the ball fairly (as in got there 1st) but was penalised for the high boot. Indirect free kick was the correct call.

It was a free kick rather than throw in that they scored the winner from as Hibs players anticipated substitution was going to take place.
One of the strange decisions from Madden was when think it was Campbell was blatantly pushed over from behind as a Hibs throw in, in front of West stand, was being taken Madden had whistle in his mouth then waves play on to allow Aberdeen to break away 🤡

Can you choose to take it on anywhere in 6 yard box line ? Or ?
Felt we should have done better with freekick.
Looked like they had no idea what to do and hadn’t practiced for the situation.
It was Porto just trying to smash it which never works.

indirect free kicks to the attacking team for an offence inside the opponents’ goal area are taken from the nearest point on the goal area line which runs parallel to the goal line
The goal area is the 6 yard box. Madden got that right and I had to look the rule up.

Personally don't blame Beaton for the final blame Jamie Murphy in not doing what a 12 year old youth player would have known to do

Personally think the ball needs to be moved twice one to the person most obviously going to shoot then moved again when the initial shooter is closed down giving an easier shot

If that's the case, I would have thought it would be taken outside the 6 yard line on the goal line???
It seemed the sort of advantage, if it was given against us, I for one would be raging!!!
But thanks for the insight.

Play was stopped for 2 minutes and my recollection is he blew the final whistle at 7 minutes 30 seconds.
Not sure if it is meant to be the full time play is stopped or if there’s some thinking/ assessment time allowed.

You cant seriously expect Hibs to be wasting time training for a situation that happens so rarely? Less than once a season you see this on average

Bizarrely that end of Easter Road has seen it twice in (relatively) quick succession this year!
Can't remember last time I saw it before the one hearts got.
