Retired to concentrate on his one love, Celtic. Before choosing to come back when he felt like it.

Absolutely loved him at Hibs. His performance in the Sproule game at Ibrox will live long in the memory.

I have a memory of him starting up front in a few games, McManus, Riordan, OConnor, Stephen Dobbie in the same team under Blobby, am I mistaken?

He definitely played up front at one point.

Think he made his debut as a sub against Aberdeen, an end of season game, bit like today!

I actually thought I was at his first game, it was against Partick Thistle at ER and he played as a striker and scored? It was an end of season game right enough. Apologies if he played before that.

Wee funny story about Scott, but true.
Back when Scott had just broken through into the big team with us, my eldest grandson attended Hibs summer holiday coaching events at the Milton Road Campus(Sue may have been the co-ordinator) Gavin Gillies was the main man at the campus.

Anyway, one afternoon,Scott came along with Jay Shields and there was a Q&A session.
All the youngsters sat on the grass in a semi circle.
One wee laddie put his hand up. Gavin said "What is your question?"

The laddie said "Scott, when you were "wee" ,what team did you support?"

Scott replied "Raith Rovers " to which another laddie shouted out "Naw naw, ma Dad said yer a Hun !!!

I was there wae a couple of other parents.
Goodness,we doubled up wae laughter.
Scott's face was a picture. He looked stunned and was speechless !
I think Gavin moved on to next question :greengrin

All the best to Scott Brown. Wonderful footballer.

PS
Gavin had some great skills.
His keepie uppies had the laddies impressed.

He did play up front, memory may be hazy but I remember a mid week game he came on, cut in from the right hand side and scored a belter with his left foot

:agree: thought so. I remember thinking how are we going squeeze all 4 of them into the same team? I always thought Dobbie was the pick of them, and would have the best career, shows what I know :greengrin

Dobbie really did have a good career. I think it was 3 Championship play off finals and with his EPL appearances arguably played at the highest level of them all domestically.

Scott Brown is a really good guy. Have seen him about Spartans in recent years as his son is/was there. Always got time for the kids asking for photos and the like. Pleasant to talk to. Hell of a player too.

He came down to the Kevin Thomson academy a few times when my son was there. The boy had nothing but good to say about him.

No doubt that he had a fabulous career at Celtic, but I don't recall seeing him doing anything close to that in a hoops shirt. Could be biased though.

He was like a wee boy in the park having fun :agree: Absolutely destroyed them.
I didn’t watch him much for Celtic but my memory was he bulked up quite a bit and had him playing in a much deeper position as the enforcer and less the box to box player he was with us. Took the joy out of his game.

Absolutely loved him at Hibs, one of a handful of players I'd try to copy whilst kicking a ball about. Happy retirement Broony.

A very good player. It quickly became clear he would move on to bigger things than Hibs. Celtic got a bargain at 4 million.

One of my favourites growing up.

That run at Ibrox in the last few minutes for Sproule’s third was incredible, left Lovenkrandz for dust who was no slouch.

Left us as the most exciting Scottish box to box midfielder in a generation and became a midfield cluggers under Strachans coaching at Celtic. Genuinely thought he would have gone on to greater things that staying at Celtic.

Very early in I remember a game at Tannaduce with him and Riordan playing and Brown being sensational out wide.

Not the no.9 but playing in a much more attacking role, yes.

Would be a good move for him. Cut his managerial teeth in the 2nd tier do a proper apprenticeship make a success of it and move on upward.

:agree:

I said at the time he went to Celtic that he had a chance to become a Steven Gerrard type player, barnstorming, box to box, scorer of goals, but with the dig and engine to go with it. Strachan turned him into a Neil Lennon type player instead

I must have been at more than half of those 55 games & don't recall ever coming away thinking what a great Scott Brown performance to be honest. Not saying he was terrible, but was never a standout.

Could all be excuses and rumours, but I'm sure a lot of managerial and personal decisions were down to his hip problems?

If so, it seems he's made good calls to make the most of his time.

If not? Still pretty impressive the box to box boy we knew managed to transition as he did.
