I notice that Hibs are currently advertising a 1980/81 retro top for sale. What caught my eye though was it's a fully branded Umbro top. The recent Insave one we released, also originally made by Umbro, wasn't branded nor was the purple and green strip branded by Bukta.

Is there something in the offing here? I'm guessing our deal with Joma was for longer than one season but just seems odd we are selling another brands product. I'd love an Umbro Hibs kit fwiw, they have made some crackers in recent years.

It’s an absolute beauty too

The purple and green one was Mitre I’m sure

They do have a Bukta branded one on the site too though

Must say I'm disappointed by the repro. It's shiny. The original wasn't shiny. I'd love to be able to wear that top again, but no chance I'd get away with a shiny top at my age.

Oh, and nobody chip in with "no grown man...", ta! :-)

The Bukta retro top, also on sale at the moment, is also fully branded.

Of course that was Mitre.

I suppose the difference is Bukta is just an outsourced heritage brand now, and lucrative it is too. Umbro is to all intents and purposes a direct rival to our own kit supplier. I can't imagine Adidas sanctioning Man Utd selling retro Umbro kits any time soon.

No big deal, I'm just a bit surprised by it.

Depends on the deal with Joma. They might only be interested in providing template teamwear so are happy for other suppliers to provide retro shirts in the same way other companies will provide the towels, novelty items etc.

Is the shop still outsourced to an external company? Can’t remember the situation to be honest.

Re umbro I saw that Brentford and umbro are sticking with 21/22 for 22/23 which is interesting

To be fair, peoples kids will be desperate for them. So while not quite ‘making’ people buy it, a lot of folk will have some very disappointed kids if they don’t.

that’s a parenting issue to me. To be honest though to say it’s just to fleece fans is a bit****

I don't mind the home and away kits changing. It's all the limited releases and other *****. I think Arsenal released something like 12 pre game warm up and track tops this season. Mental.

No one is forced to buy them. Do you get angry when there are 10 varieties of chips in the freezer at Asda?

Just bought one (well two, as I have no idea what size I am now, one will go back).

Nice looking too officially made by Umbro.

Rules to restrict the advertising of junk food exist because it’s proven that kids can pester their parents for stuff, and it works.

Blaming the parents isn’t the way to go.

Surely it's their fault that they have kids in the first place?

No one makes you buy itThey didn't used to change kits every season. Why did pretty much every club change to yearly?

To get more money out of the fans.

There's no good reason to change the kits every year, it's bad for the environment and despite there being no one physically forcing fans to buy the new kit, there is pressure to do so.

I think Brentford have it spot on here. Keep the home kit for 2 years, if anyone wants to buy a lovely new kit every season then they can buy the away kit. Simple solution.

No doubting that you're right about getting more money out of fans, but there's also the slightly underhand way of doing it in that there always seems to be the contract expiring for the kit supplier and/or the sponsor so it becomes a necessity to change kits

I’m sure there was a period when we kept the home & away kits for 2 years each, but changed one every year, so one year a new home kit, next year a new away kit.

Made much more sense!

It was only in the early 2000's when that stopped

I love Umbro. For me they made some of the best Hibs kits ever. In recent years I've bought some of the Diamond Retro Hibs kits and enjoyed wearing them. I do hope this relationship with Umbro grows and we can get some of the old shirts redone officially.

You're seeing it as getting more money out of fans, I'm seeing it as an income stream.

If you do something to affect your income stream then there will be a consequence

The 98/99 home strip was the last to be used for 2 seasons so was used in first div and prem. The away one still changed as was yellow with more of a ice hockey top feel in first div then I think classic white.

Lecoqsportif and Carlsberg.

The following home kit of 2000/01 was used for a 2 year period up until 2002 and was thus the last Hibs home kit to do so. Away’s did changed from the white to the purple in that time.

The 6-2 home shirt was used for both 2000/01 and 2001/02 (again, Le Coq & Carlsberg but with the new badge this time)
