It just means we’ll have asked the spfl if we can have our free matchday on that weekend. We’ll have our 4 games the 2 weekends and midweeks before the Norwich game.

Fingers crossed we can get a game down south before that like we did with Carlisle last time out

That’s a Premier Sports Cup weekend according to the other thread so presumably one or the other will be a weaker team?Free home friendly on 24th July was mentioned as an incentive to renew ST a while ago . Maybe because club assumed we`d be in Europe by winning cup or at least finishing in top 5 so wouldn`t have League Cup match that weekend . I suppose we could play a LC tie on Saturday 23rd and play Norwich the next day .

So probably a League Cup group match on Saturday 23rd ( home or away , maybe on Friday for telly ) then Norwich on Sunday . Back in 1970s it was quite normal to play games on successive days at new year ( Tynecastle on 1st January 1971 , home to Cowdenbeath a day later , away to Celtic in league in mid 70s and SC tie v Meadowbank at Holy Ground the next day ) . On Saturday , Celtic v Norwich and Rangers v Tottenham on same day ? ) .

We never get friendlies in England anymore. At least not in Carlisle. (That doesn’t count as I’d be just as well off driving to Scotland).

I remember going to Bolton, Blackburn, Blackpool, Shrewsbury. It’s always doable for us English based fans (of which there are loads) to be able to get to a game relatively easily.

Westcountry tour please Hibs - Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, Swindon Town, Forest Green Rovers, Yeovil Town, Exeter City, Plymouth Argyle.

Its a james hunt of a drive or you're relying on 2 x train connections being on time. Not the easiest of journeys. The fact that Edinburgh or Glasgow has no direct rail services to that part of the Midlands is poor imo.

In the days before the WWW, I only got to know about it lunchtime on the Saturday. Although I was living in Bethnal Green at the time, I got in just before half-time and immediately saw Ally McLeod waltz through the Palace defence and score what turned out to be the only goal, such was the then dreadful transport links in South London before DLR.

Premier Sports Cup group stages dates
9/10 July
12/13 July
16/17 July
19/20 July
23/24 July

Peterhead, Montrose, Albion Rovers, Annan and Stenhousemuir are the 5 grounds I need to complete the set. So any of those away in the group stages please. (I know they're split into North and Southern sections so 2, maybe 3 of those teams we are unlikely to face)

They've done away with the regional splits this year so we could get any team.

I didn't know that, good news for me I suppose, means theres a chance of a decent Saturday away day plus getting to tick off a ground that I need.

Club will only pkay on 4 of those dates so must have agreed we get the last week free.

That’s right, draw is on Wednesday 1pm, although can’t see SPFL changing a game for a friendly

It’s not changing a game though, it’s just giving us that weekend free. Plenty teams have done this before, and we wouldn’t have announced the friendly unless we’d agreed this in advance.

I was living in Aldershot when Hibs played a hastily arranged friendly there.

Before the WWW and the first I knew about it was when I saw two guys in Hibs scarves walking through the shopping centre after the game!

I was gutted to say the least.

I hope so as I'm going to book my train and hotel Wednesday for the Norwich game.

I went to Aldershot against Fergie's Aberdeen [early 1984], 4-0 to the Scottish side, I had plenty of notice for that one. I can't remember Hibs playing there though, that must have been dreadful for you though.

They basically hate Scots. A tradition spreading back Centuries.

Agree, let’s not go back there. Hardly an away trip (just over the border) and it’s a grim town.

Like I said, Bristol City or Swindon Town please.
Hate the Scots not my experience and the first I've heard of it.

Its a pointless friendly mate, save your money, they are playing Celtic the day before us. They will play their under 20s v us. No wonder its free to ST holders.

Totally understandable but it's been a few months since my last game and august is far to expensive.

Fair enough you seem to know. I’d rather be watching Hibs on the Saturday in a cup game, than a midweek game

Shouldn’t let anyone tell you how you should spend your money and enjoy yourself mate. Enjoy your trip and the game!
