Sells for more than £7m at auction today, Steve Hodge must be laughing all the way to the bank.

The England players who refused to swap cos they were in a huff must be kicking themselves!

I hope so. They never got near kicking Maradona.

Peter Reid was pictured next to the shirt on display before the auction and said that was the closest he ever managed to get to it.

There was a piece on the auction this morning on BBC breakfast, was actually a fascinating wee watch.

Seemingly Argentina only had cotton shirts and the players wanted something cooler for the game.

The kitman went round various sports shops in Mexico City or wherever they were based and that's what he came back with.

Maradona approved and the kitman spent the day before the match stitching on the badges.

In various photos I've seen from the match the numbers always appeared a shiny/sparkly silver which I've always thought to be odd.

Turns out that the only numbers the kitman could find was numbers meant for American football jerseys which was and still is very popular in Mexico.

Quite incredible stuff really.

His second goal in that game was simply imo the best goal ever scored.

So it was Steve Hodge ex Forest that sold it? Well done on him if so.
