Stay;

Macey
Dabrowski
Hanlon
Stevenson
Doig (would try and sell for maximum profit)
Porto
Cadden
Clarke (as he's on an 18 month loan)
Magennis
Henderson
Mueller (but I'm not sure why really)
Nisbet
Melkersen
Hauge if he's even a first team player?

Other than that Not too bothered at all. McGinn I'd probably activate the years extension as he's versatile.

We need a massive rebuilding job, especially in midfield as it's abysmal. Just can't see us getting in as many first team players as we need, and hope the new manager gets at least the two transfer windows it needs.

Goalkeepers
Matt Macey – 1 year remaining on contract – would keep but would look to bring in another keeper to at the very least challenge for the no.1 jersey and ideally take it.
Kevin Dabrowski – 1 year remaining on contract – as above would ideally be looking for better than Macey if at all possible. Dabrowski has shown he’s of a similar level but none of Ross, Maloney or Gray appear to think he’s any better therefore I would let him know he’s free to go.
David Mitchell – 1 year remaining on contract – would always want 3 keepers on the books and as he appears to be happy being third choice (don’t imagine Dabrowski would be happy being demoted back to that) then I would keep him.

Right Back/ Right Wing Backs
Chris Cadden – 1 year remaining on contract – keep and probably look to extend his contract
Harry Clarke – loan runs to end of next season – keep
Paul McGinn – out of contract, club with option to extend for an extra year – I would take up the option of a further year but would look for him to be back-up rather than a starter next season. The fact that he can cover centre-back would play a big role in this as it’s an area where I think we may see some real change next season

Centre halves
Paul Hanlon – 2 years remaining on contract – keep but I would be hopeful that the likely two new centre backs we may need to sign mean that he isn’t a nailed on starter next season.
Ryan Porteous – 1 year remaining on contract – keep but if he doesn’t sign a new contract in the next month or two then I think we have to accept that the summer will be the last opportunity to get some serious money for him. As a result I think the club will understandably switch from trying to keep him to trying to get the best deal possible for him.
Darren McGregor – 1 year remaining on contract – leave, although for his legendary status and positive influence in the dressing room, I wouldn’t be forcing him out if he wishes to stay and see out his final year. However, I think it would be best for all if he either hung up his boots or dropped down a league to try and get more regular games.
Rocky Bushiri – loan expires, fee agreed with Norwich should we wish to sign permanently – leave

Left Backs/ Left Wing Backs
Josh Doig – 4 years remaining on contract – keep unless a good offer comes in
Demetri Mitchell – 2 years remaining on contract - keep
Lewis Stevenson – 1 year remaining on contract – keep
Sean Mackie – out of contract, already confirmed that he will be off – leave

Central Midfielders
Kyle Magennis – 3 years remaining on contract – keep but awareness that we cannot build our midfield around him as history suggests there is a fair chance he will be missing for at least half the season.
Joe Newell – 3 years remaining on contract – keep but hopefully sign a couple of new midfielders who can provide competition
Jake Doyle Hayes – 3 years remaining on contract – keep but only as back up, for context he’s played more games for us than any other player this season (41) and I would hope we have better competition in there next season
Josh Campbell – 3 years remaining on contract – I sadly think it’s become abundantly clear that he isn’t up to the level required. I would be allowing him to leave but given the length of contract he’s on, I think we may need to loan him out for the season
Ewan Henderson – 3 years remaining on contract – still to fully convince me if I’m honest but keep and give a shot next season
Dylan Tait – 3 years remaining on contract – now injured but don’t believe he’s been a stand out at Championship level this season (happy to stand corrected). The fact Maloney immediately put him back out on loan to the league below while keeping Campbell set some alarm bells ringing also. Would likely look to loan out again to bottom 6/ top end of Championship.
Scott Allan – out of contract – leave
Innes Murray – out of contract – leave, now 24 and only managed one game for us and that was under Lennon 6 years ago.
Alex Gogic – out of contract, already confirmed that he will be off – leave

Wingers
Chris Mueller – 3 years remaining on contract – keep, hasn’t been up to it thus far but have seen foreign January arrivals need a bit of time and pre-season to fully settle. Hope that can happen next season.
Runar Hauge – 3 years remaining on contract – not given much of a chance but hasn’t set the heather alight when he has played. Not ideal if he can’t get in the team that’s been poor for so much of the second half of the season either, again given age and contract length I would be looking at loaning out
Daniel MacKay – 3 years remaining on contract – again early signs not ideal, has fallen out of the Kilmarnock starting line-up and in the couple of games I watched him play for them, Fraser Murray looked the better option. As with Hauge, we’re probably looking at another loan to allow for one or two more experienced options to come in
Steven Bradley – 2 years remaining on contract, loaned to Dundalk until January of next season – the one player out on loan who looks to be excelling, would leave him out on loan but hopefully may provide competition in the second half of the season
Sylvester Jasper – loan expired, fee agreed with Fulham should we look to make deal permanent – leave, I know he seems to be popular but first half at Fir Park aside, I have seen no signs of a final ball which he would need for me to want us to part with the (allegedly) substantial fee agreed with Fulham
Drey Wright – out of contract – leave
Jamie Murphy – out of contract, already confirmed he will be off – leave

Strikers
Elias Melkersen – 4 years remaining on contract – keep but hopefully have more fit and firing experienced options ahead of him next term.
Christian Doidge – 2 years remaining on contract – looked like he would definitely be off under Maloney but not sure if he may have a slight reprieve with his sacking. The Doidge we’ve seen since injury would be a definite leave but I wouldn’t be against giving him pre-season to see how he’s looking before deciding
Kevin Nisbet – 2 years remaining on contract – keep, Maloney did state in the Q&A, however, that he would be out until ‘November, December or January’ so think we’ll need to forget him as an option for the first part of the season
Josh O’Connor – 1 year remaining on contract – keep, potentially loan out or have playing with the B team after his good season with the under-18s
James Scott – loan expires – leave

A summer of upheaval is sadly looking a necessary evil for me should we wish to be challenging for third next season. A lot of players to move on either permanently or on loan, with likely anywhere between 8 to 11 players coming in the door, won’t be easy and may not be achievable should certain players on longer contracts play hard ball. Big job for the new manager whoever he is.

The ones that will go will be loans that haven't work, players that rarely play and moves that make financial sense.

The rest stay and bring in quality to push others out over time.

The idea of losing mcginn, Hanlon, Stevenson, jdh, Campbell, Macey, Doidge, Wright, Mueller, McGregor, Allan etc all in one go is just daft. Some will go but it just isn't possible to switch an entire squad.

Nah, what we need is a good manager to come in and make better decisions re the squad and of course to move on players unwilling or unfits the new regime.

Replay Robbie managed to overcome his many doubters with a terrible squad inherited from lavvie levein. Its only downhill for Replay Robbie though as he'll probably lose the double header against Rangers and will find it a harder task to finish third next year.

Hope Hearts get smashed by Rangers in the final. Seriously taken apart.

Why do we have to keep creating the exact same thread to do it?

Some of the “go’s” are nothing more than pipe dream nonsense.

If we were discussing out of contract or loan players there would be merit for discussion but pointless for those with years left on contracts.

Think this is almost exactly my thoughts. Other than Magennis, he’s probably closer to the move on list than the keep to progress list simply as he can’t be relied upon to stay fit.

Cadden, and to a lesser extent Doig, is a big issue for me. Not through any fault of his own, but he’s one of our main attacking outlets and gets into countless good positions. However he’s just not good enough with his final ball to be a key attacking player for us. Maybe that element can be improved upon with coaching but he’s either an overlapping RB with the engine he has, creating space for a true winger or he’s backup for me.

Doidge certainly is good enough, proven that many times.

Remember that time you said Doidge wasn't good enough to finish 3rd and Aberdeen would never have a striker like him.

Then he scored vs Aberdeen to secure 3rd. Yeah, me too.

Agreed. Campbell doesn’t need any explaining, doidge looks absolutely finished. He was never technically good enough in all honesty but he was always a handful because he got about the pitch well both in the air and on the ground. He does neither now, should have moved him on to dundee in january

It’s not that bad really. Pretty good at this level

After 33/34 games in the league this season, the top goal scorers are

Charles Cook - 13
Morelos - 11
Anderson - 11
Abada - 10

I really liked the look of Magennis at the start of the season. As a CM he has a pretty complete skill set. Good ability on the ball, eye for a goal, good passer, box to box, doesn’t shirk a tackle. Though that said, I thought he looked decidedly average in his limited appearances last season.

The above, in addition to his injury woes, makes him a difficult player to judge.

Inconsequential
24-04-2022, 02:12 PM
Players with contracts can also leave. It’s not only out of contract/end of loan players that can move. Players with contracts could leave if any other club wants them. The terms must suit the player and the player is willing to move. Otherwise the player involved can sit tight with his existing contract.

Unseen work
24-04-2022, 02:14 PM
For me we need to sign Jasper permanently.

Hes got bags of potential and already has a lot of ability and can create chances.

Put him in a team with players capable of giving him the ball quicker and watch him flourish.

I’d not be fussed if decent fees are paid for any of our players with the exception of Porteous and Doig. I don’t think there’s anyone desperately needing moved on. I just think we need to bring in a couple of key players - namely a striker and a hard ass midfielder.

The bones of this squad were good enough to come third last season.

It certainly isn't a poor return.

Mixu got 34 in 106 for us in his first spell. So pretty much identical. Probably started many more games than Doidge as well and didn't have a brutal injury. And probably a few pens in there which Doidge doesn't take.

A fit and on form Doidge is among the best strikers in the league. He deserves a pre season to get fit and show us what he can do.

Macey- Go. All good teams need a good keeper to succeed, Macey doesn't fill me with any confidence what so ever and his kicking is Sunday league level.
Dabrowski- Keep. Only as backup

McGinn- Keep. Only as backup
Cadden- Keep. One of, if not our best player.
Clarke- Keep. Early signs look good.
Porteous- Sell. Misses largee chunks of season due to not being able to grow up, move abroad might be exactly what he needs.
Bushiri- Go. The fact Maloney persisted with this clown beggards belief, will be playing non league football in the near future.
McGregor- Go. Would love to keep him at the club in some capacity, whether it be coaching or similar.
Hanlon- Keep. Idealy as backup only, he's been an ever present of a generally soft side for too long.
Doig- Keep. Only going to get better and better, big part of the future of this club
Stevenson- Keep. Similar to Hanlon, we shouldn't be relying on a 34yo Stevenson but experience and versatility invaluable.
Mackie- Go.

Jasper- Go.
Magennis- Keep. If he can be kept fit he could be huge for us.
Wright- Go. Not at required standard.
Newell- Go. Doesn't do enough as a central midfielder.
Mueller- Keep. Benefit of doubt given as he came in mid season from a different league. Needs to start next season well or fans will turn on him (Esp if wages are to be believed)
JDH- Keep. Backup, needs to find some consistency if he wants to make it at a club like Hibs.
Campbell- Go. shouldn't need an explanation.
Mitchell- Keep. Injury record a worry, but looks dangerous when fit.
Allan- Go. Thanks for the memories.
Henderson. Keep. Has come on to a game of late and ability wise tremendous, good manager will hopefully get the best out of him.
Murphy- Go.
Gogic - Go.
Mckay- Keep. Backup/Loan out
Tait- Keep. Backup/Loan out

Doige- Keep. Useful option if he can get himself fit.
Nisbet- Keep. Best striker at the club.
Melkersen- Keep. Possible loan if we sign more strikers.
Scott- Go. Waste of time/money

Would be hoping for something like this (3-5-2):

New Gk
Clarke New CB New CB
Cadden Magennis JDH Doig
Henderson
Nisbet New ST

Type of signings i'd like to see
-New GK (Clarke, Seigrest)
-New CB (McCart, McIntyre, Findlay)
-New ST (Someone like Simms from them, pace and power please)

Things can change quickly in football and i believe 5 or 6 signings would be all that it takes to be back to the third force in Scottish football. Our squad isn't as bad as people are making out and injuries have seriously hampered us. So important that we get the right man in to lead this team back to glory.
