For those who watched Kille v Arbroath I thought it was great to see their Goalie kicking the ball up the park the old fashioned way. No rolling it on the turf then kicking up the park. No rolling it out to the defenders & no time wasting.
Ball in hand & the old fashioned punt.

Hi, Dick. No, you can’t have the Hibs job.

Thought it was alright for the first 45 minutes, then they lost possession basically everytime he punted it in the second half it got a bit confusing as to why they didn't even try pass it shorter once or twice.

Hoof ball, How exciting! Is that what you want to see at Easter Road? It's for that reason we are so far behind other countries in football terms. Should be coached at lower level too

I don't think we really are too far behind other countries footballing wise. Scotland are about 120th in terms of world population by country. Yet we are 39th in the Fifa world rankings. :cool2:

For anyone who enjoys a good punt, this 90 second video clip of keepers in the 80's just punting the ball up the pitch is a great watch:greengrin

39th in the world rankings is a pretty poor return imo. Even during Scotland's apparent golden years during we achieved nothing at international level.

As someone else said, punting the ball basically creates a 50/50 at every kick out. It has its place but would much rather try and get it out to feet.

Well, to be fair, the pissing about keeping possession and aimlessly passing backwards didn't really acheive much!

Football from another era. Modern football teams would absolutely murder that team.

Hibs keepers don’t punt the ball,we have shots at the goal which we’ve been successful twice IIRC but that shows practice pays off :greengrin

A couple of continental half volleys and at least 1 pulled hamstring in there. Wonderful compilation 😅

Been trying to remember who used to do that in Scotland even earlier than the 80s. Was it Cruickshank of the PBS? :dunno:

Agreed, surprised so many have chosen to ridicule simplicity. As a team we lack fight which is required to fight for 2nd balls.

I can't remember the exact % but it is more likely to hand possession to the other team within one touch after a punt. Something like 70% or some such

But up the other end of the park away from your goal I presume? I wished we’d done a 70/30 punt last weekend before McGinn got caught in possession.

Ok course this is tongue in cheek, I suppose there’s a time and place for playing out and just sticking it up the park. You obviously need the personnel to implement that.

Guess that was the hoofball season in which Gordon,O'Rourke and Duncan scraped 99 goals between them in all competitions "!!

Many assists did Herriot get?:cb

It's a pity that Arbroath keeper can't catch a ball as he sold the jerseys last night, slapping away a ball that was easy to hold leading to the equaliser. Hopefully Arbroath punt him if they want any form of success.

That reply was tongue in cheek to a post referring to Tornadoes and hoofball

That team played excellent wonderful football...not hoofball

You saying the "Tornadoes approach" would not work today ?

The right blend of attacking players it would'
Defences back the were no slouches ,either.
Broken bones were not too uncommon.

Those Tornadoes in this modern era would have all the modern fitness and techniques of players today . Yet they would be outstanding footballers too …they would more than hold their own - would be a top team

There will probably come a time when the hipster football analysts
come to the conclusion that a good old hoof up the park presents just as many chances as from tippy tapping it out from the back.

Me too and give me a hoof up the park and some frantic action over 10 minutes of square balls. Flick on for a fast striker is more exciting to me that 30 passes that do nothing and a couple that break through the defence

Bet he punted it a few times.
I saw Andy Goram punt it into the cowshed net against Morton

How many Arbroath games have you seen. Lost the 2nd lowest amount of goals in that league this season. Their season isn't finished yet. I would guess they've had a pretty successful season.

Maloney got sacked in part because he tried to implement a style of football that didn't suit the players at his disposal so why would you want to revert to a hoofball system for which you've said we lack the necessary attributes?
