View Full Version : Where do we go from here?

Looking at our squad, there is a small number that I would want to be a regular starter come the beginning of next season. I think we need a massive overhaul and I just am not sure Shaun Maloney is the man to do it, I’m not sure he has done enough to convince me that he is the right man for the job and if he isn’t and we give him the summer then it will most likely be another catastrophe of a season.
Here are the players I would play week in week out, would keep for backup and would get rid of
Keepers :-
Macey - bin
Dabrowski - backup
Mitchell - bin
Defenders:-
Cadden - start
Porteous - start ( will probably leave if he doesn’t sign a new deal)
Doig - start
Clarke - start
Hanlon - keep as a backup
Stevenson- keep as a backup (only due to age)
Mcginn - bin
Rocky - bin
Mcgregor- bin
Mitchell - can rotate with doig?
Midfield :-
Allan - bin
Campbell - bin
JDH - keep as backup
Newell - keep as backup
Magennis - plays if fit
Henderson - keep as backup
Wright - bin
Forwards :-
Doidge - bench (offers something different) however after his injury doesn’t seem the same player
Nisbet - plays in a front 2 but isn’t suited up front by himself so will probably be away in summer
Melkerson - not at the level to play every week at the moment
Jasper - not consistent enough to nail down a starting place
Mueller - same as Jasper, hopefully finds a new level after a pre season
Scott - bin
So looking at that we need a keeper, at least 2 defenders, at least 2 midfielders and a striker that suits maloneys system
Sorry but this is just a rehash of numerous other similar posts.

Your numbers don't add up, I make it 4 starts and 5 to bring in, are we only playing with 9 men now???
Your figures tells me we need a full 11, with the rest as back up?????

The following things need to happen.
1 - Fresh start, get rid of Maloney. Maloney’s let them off with too much and can’t hold authority over them as a result. When you accept one mistake because it’s not led to conceding you can’t fairly punish the same mistake that does lead to conceding. Damaged goods.
2 - Decide on the direction we are taking. B team or youth team, direct or passing it about, Stubbs style youth or experience, formations and systems.
3 - Appoint the managerial team on those guidelines. They don’t need to be experienced but they must fundamentally understand the Scottish game, Hibs and have an air of assertiveness about them.
4 - No fannying about. Do what is needed to keep us in the league, be decisive in what players stay and go. Work day and night to identify targets. Get them in early and integrated into the team. Which leads onto:
5 - Any appointment or decision or signing must be to the benefit of the product on the pitch. If it’s not getting us up the table then it doesn’t happen.
6 - Set a clear minimum standard and conduct and never, ever deviate from it.
7 - If something goes wrong - we lose a player to a sale, injury or suspension then make sure there’s a Plan B ready to go, practised and second nature to the entire squad.

You’re clearly the man for the job. Where’s your evidence to back up point 1 🙄

As for number 1 , were you in favour of SM`s appointment or at least ready to give him support ? You seem to give him non stop criticism whatever problems ( injuries , suspensions , dodgy decisions , losing top player very late in window , etc ) he has had to face .

I hate to break this to you, but this is an Internet message board where people share their opinions. You might need to have a think if that’s for you.
Some of the performances that Maloney has come out and said he’s pleased with have been quite frankly little different from the ones he’s said he can’t accept. His little fist pump when Boyce missed then failed to get on top of the defence for playing him through days a lot about his mentality. Celebrate what’s outwith our control and don’t get on top of what is in our control. I couldn’t blame anyone at Hibs not knowing what the required standard is as it’s so inconsistent and undefined it would seem.
Some players have been dropped for very little (Stevenson) and get some repeat offenders have not seen a significant drop in their game time (Campbell).

I was very excited about his appointment, my post history will show that if you can be arsed looking through it (wouldn’t blame you if you’re not).
Every team has injuries, ref decisions go against them and the like. I remove suspensions from that because that is within our control and our discipline has been shocking. Either way, I’m not interested in a manager blaming things outwith our control, I’m interested in seeing what they do to work with the hand we’re dealt. In the two worst games for injuries we could have changed to a back four which would have left less players out of position and bolstered us out wide and in midfield but instead we ended up with the same system and Chris Cadden at CB. That’s not the level of pragmatism required for a manager at Hibs. I’m not saying moving to a back four, retaining the engine of Cadden out wide would have won us the game but it would at least show an effort to make the most of a bad situation. A few players have returned now, we should have our backup plans and new players now integrated into the team so the injuries at this stage of the season have become little more than an excuse. Same with the sale of Boyle. It was known for weeks that a club with big money were in for him. It wasn’t a shock.
Add to that the shambles in January. We knew we needed a striker - perhaps two- and that an injury to Nisbet would leave us really light. We signed one young lad who had never played on grass before. It’s almost like we became giddy about the thought of a B team and completely forgot about our priorities in that window. It leads to the point of “if it doesn’t get us up the league table then it doesn’t happen”. The B team may work in a couple of years time but as for now? We needed players in for the first team and we largely chose not to. Unforgivable.

Yes, I am. But a code of conduct, ethics and principles should be in place and not flexible. People will err, people will make mistakes and you help them improve. Those who choose to break it don’t have a place at the club.
There are expected standards of conduct and principles in every social or work group we deal with - some written, some implied. We have laws in our society. You choose to have sticking to standards as the one you flip the lid at???
