View Full Version : Who has the worst Scottish Cup record now?

While Dundee’s 112 year drought is maybe the most obvious, I think you could argue that Aberdeen actually have the worst Scottish Cup record at 32 years without a win given their prominence as one of the “bigger” clubs.

Surely it’s The Rangers, since they’ve never won it?

I also go with rangers. Regardless if it’s newco or oldco the fact they’ve not won it in 13 years is terrible for a club with those finances

Rangers' 13 years without a Scottish Cup trophy must be up there.

I wonder if this is the longest Rangers have went in their history without a Scottish win?
(I’m including both clubs)

Wikipedia has their worst run as 25 years between 1903 and 1928. We can but hope this current run matches that...

Huns for sure. Even going by their own make believe take on history, they haven't won a domestic cup competition in over a decade.

It wasn't held for 5 years between 1914-1919 due to WWI so they only went 19 seasons without winning it during this period.
This was also matched between 1874-1894.

No one won it in 1909 either as it was withheld due to rioting mobs.

Vale of Leven need to buck up their idea'sIf I was them I'd voluntarily liquidate then get the fan (or fans) to say they don't do walking away, except when it involves walking away from debts and liabilities then reform as Sevco (Vale of Leven). Instantly off the bottom.

It does look pretty ugly for Aberdeen right enough.
Ignoring those clubs that no longer exist, it really shows how many Scottish clubs have their glory years firmly in their past.

I think that, given the start they got off to, Queens Park's recent record is pretty poor. They got to play their semis and finals at home to until very recently as well.

More importantly, what is the longest a club from one of Scotland's four cities has gone without winning the League Cup😀?

Inverness have won a Scottish Cup more recently than Hearts, a nice start to the morning reminding myself that Hearts are pish.

I work up in Dundee and their Scottish Cup drought is definitley a sore subject. The United fans wind them up about it every time the cup comes around. Know the feeling all too well

I always think being mocked for not winning a major trophy is in many ways a back handed compliment.
No one is slagging Queens Park because they haven't won the trophy for 129 years and no one really expects them or the likes of Dumbarton to ever win it again. Our 114 years was an issue because most people would have expected Hibs to have won the Scottish Cup at least 2 or 3 times in that period. Same with Dundee, for all their glory days are behind them they were a successful team from the late 40s through the early 70s. Even now it wouldn't be a huge shock if they won one of the major trophies.
Of that list I would really only expect Celtic, Rangers, Hibs, Hearts, Aberdeen and Dundee Utd to be regular semi finalists and finalists. Then comes Kilmarnock, Motherwell, St Mirren and Dundee who will be there or thereabouts every few years. The likes of Partick Thistle, Dunfermilne, Morton, ICT and Falkirk might reach the latter stages on occasion but it would be considered a real shock if any of them won the trophy again.
For that reason I would say Rangers and Aberdeen have the worst records on that list. With the finances Rangers have going over a decade without the biggest domestic trophy is poor. Aberdeen have arguably been a bit unlucky in that they lost a final to the 9 in a row Rangers team, a final in which they lost their goalkeeper in the 1st minute and then a final to the 9 in a row Celtic team. I suppose a lot of clubs will have similar tales of woe though.

I stand with the New Rangers have NEVER won it school of thought, so old Rangers will eventually exceed 114 years
Bit worrying that I attended the St Mirren cup win. Also was at their semi final against Hearts. Enjoyed that :greengrin

Used to annoy me more than it should that dundees poor record never seemed to get mentioned in the media whereas we were known as Hibs who haven't won the cup since 1902.

Because we're a bigger club, were in far more finals, and our poppy stealing, nonce employing rivals were desperately obsessed with it.

We are a bigger club to be fair. It took us years to turn semi finals into finals a win took a bit longer. I don't think dundee have been in the latter stages since early 00s

Gonna be controversial here.....I still think its us who have the worst record. The next big 3 after the OF are the sheep, 'them' and Hibs. The other 2 have very similar records, 7 and 8 wins respectively.....we have three. Last season was a golden chance to claw one back and it was agony to see it given up so cheaply. One tin pot in 120 years (no matter how glorious that day was) is diabolical. Another one in a months time might make me a little more positive though :greengrin

I wonder how many finals we've been in compared to Aberdeen and Hearts. Wouldn't surprise me if we've been in more.

Early 60s would be fine? 1963 onwards?Yes . I said 1968 to start with our final v Celtic . Maybe start in late 1972 to make it nearly 50 years ? 3 wins in 50 years not great but a lot of finals too .
