Very elderly relatives are shortly going to Spain on holiday.
They don't have mobile phones and have paper copies to show they are fully vaccinated
I looked on the UK gov travel advise, where it states that is acceptable
Today somebody told me that is not the case and they will require a EU Digital certificate I think !!!
What can thy do if they don't have mobiles ?

They'll be fine with a paper certificate.

What is a EU Digital COVID Certificate?

On 17 March 2021, the European Commission adopted a legislative proposal establishing a common framework for a EU Digital COVID Certificate covering vaccination, testing and recovery. It is an EU-wide approach to the issuing, verification and acceptance of certificates facilitating free movement within the EU, based on strict respect for non-discrimination and the fundamental rights of EU citizens.

The EU Digital COVID Certificate is a digital proof that a person:

has been vaccinated against COVID-19, or

a SARSCoV2 diagnostic test has been performed with a negative result, or

has recovered from COVID-19

The key features of the certificate are: digital or paper format, with QR code, issued free of charge in the national language and English, safe and secure, valid in all EU countries.

In addition, the EU has established equivalence between COVID-19 certificates issued by certain countries and the EU COVID Digital Certificate. Therefore, certificates from these countries will have the same status as an EU COVID Digital Certificate.

Thanks for your reply SDG.
Conflicting info I think. As stated I was sure a paper cert was ok but this guy assured me that he went onto Spanish health website ( I think) . Maybe I’m wrong about the EU cert, but he said border control were not accepting paper !
Bit worrying
Has anybody been recently to Spain with a paper proof of vaccination ?

I have just travelled to the Canaries…ensure you complete the Spanish document 72 hours before travel …you will have to upload Covid details on vaccination. This generates a QR code…print it off. Actually easier at airport with the hard copy.

I’m confused BH. Is this the passenger locator form which the airline send you ?

So you are saying they can just show their paper vaccine certs at the airport in Ibiza and they should be ok ?
I notice the certs only show the last 2 vaccine dates, not the first date.
I’m just a bit concerned for them

I don’t know what your airline sent …. This is the link that generates the QR code https://www.spth.gob.es/create

They will need proof of dates for all covid jags they have had or they will have to do a test at the airport. This happened to a guy in our party who did not have the app on his phone and only 2 paper copies of his jags - so his documents showed his last Jag was more than 6 months ago and he could not prove he had recently had his booster. The test was done quickly and on his negative result he was waved through but it was a stress he didn't need.

This was Lanzarote at the end of February.

If they can show the last 2 but not the first then that may well be ok - it should be - but you never know.

The UK Government website suggests that two doses are enough as long as the most recent one was within 9 months of arriving in Spain so perhaps proof of the first one won't be required.

If it was longer than 270 days since their most recent dose then perhaps a call to the COVID Status Helpline on 0808 196 8565 will help where you can request that a paper copy of your vaccination record is sent out to you.

Perhaps a call to them would be good regardless as it sounds like there's a significant amount of worry surrounding this and they will hopefully be able to put your mind at ease.

When they fill in their passenger locator form they’ll get a QR code. The passenger locator form asks for details of your vaccinations.

This QR code from the passenger locator form will have their vaccination details on it. This can be printed. Loads of people had paper versions.

I’ve been to Barcelona twice in the last few months and never shown my actual covid passport, just the QR code from my passenger locator form. You show that after you go through passport control.

I'm off to Tenerife in 10 days time.

I'm on a couple of Tenerife type Facebook pages, the same question has been asked on them.

A few folk who arrived at the weekend said they didn't need the Spanish forms/app, just your UK covid certificate paper or app. Some said the Spanish authorities just gave them a cursory glance.

I was in Gran Canaria last week, all the authorities were interested in was obviously your passport at passport control and your Spanish generated QR which was scanned at the second control point.

I’ve seen their paper copies and they got their last jags well within 270 days.
Other replies have suggested it should all be ok. I will reassure them tomorrow 👍
