Missed the reason he was left out Sat - presumably an injury.
Feel he would be important for the Hearts games. I know he hasn't been firing since his comeback from injury but our attacking options are quite similar, Jasper, Melkerson, Mueller, Henderson - all look exciting prospects but all young/inexperienced and dare I say a bit lightweight.
These games could be bruising and we could do with Doidge physicality, even if off the bench (though think he would be a great foil for Melkerson)

Too quick to be chucking him in for these games, I reckon.
If he is fit we should play two up front alongside melkerson.
But that would need maloney to compromise his 3-4-3 so its not going to happen
I would go 3/5/2

Agree could do with him as an option even from the bench

Think Hearts play a 3-4-3 and we will match that.

He played both Doidge and Nisbet in the last derby.
I think the bigger issue is the fact that Doidge has just looked absolutely miles away from it and, not having played for about a month, isn’t going to be any closer.

I think we should. I thought first half against them Cadden & Doig on opposite sides gave them real problems going forward and it was a shame Doig had to go off injured.

It's Doidge the striker, not Doig.

Doidge has to play Saturday. Physicality is massive in these games and judging by Melkersen's performance last week, Halkett will chuck him about like a rag doll

If he does that in the box it will result in a penalty, wont it?

Doidge has been told he is not part of our plans moving forward.
The big man is fit but still wasn't even on the bench on Saturday.

Doidge is nowhere near having any impact whatsoever.
No point in putting him in just because because he's big. Halkett, on the ground, is a liability.

It is slightly concerning we pretty much are relying on a 19 year old to lead the line on these 2 massive games.
As much as I like Melkersen derbies are games where you need different options depending how the game is going.

With what we’ve seen from Doidge since he returned, they wouldn’t even need to rag doll him about as he’ll be about 15 yards off them all the time. He looked like he could hardly move at points, a month without a game isn’t going to have helped that.

It’s too much pressure too early Maloney made it clear he was one he wanted to gradually introduce to the team but he has been forced to now play him week in week out as our only striker option
Great start v Motherwell without the same space the sending off afforded him he hasn’t netted since
Think he will go on to be good player for us but remains to be seen if he can handle the pressure of these two games and if that miss v United affects him or spurs him on
Young players like him snd jasper will dip in form it’s natural at that age

On the eve of his 19th birthday,Jimmy O'Rourke was told he would be playing the following day in the derby at Tynecastle, as a replacement for the injured striker,Neil Martin.
Unexpected call,as Jimmy had just played a game in the reserves that night.
Anyway,to celebrate his 19th birthday, Jimmy gave himself and the fans a present of two goals in a 4-0 win.
All goals scored before 3.08pm
Player depicted in my avatar got the other two,Stevie the Rebel !

Was there , standing down at the wall at the school end.
Can still remember the goals which were at the other end, think they went Eric, Jimmy, Eric again then Jimmy.
Rest of the game is a blank.

If thats true, that is a worry. I get that Doidge is unlikely to have a long term future under maloney and he has looked miles off the pace since returning for injury. However given our only other striker is 19, there must be some short term role for doidge. To cast him aside now feels like a poor decision.
Another poster noted Doidge and Nisbet started the last derby which I had forgotten and I looked back on the report which states we lined up in a 3-4-1-2 - so a variation on the 3-4-3 we normally see
I do think that may still be an option particularly given the tight nature of the pitch at Tynecastle

Shame but he has never recovered from both his injury and Covid to anywhere near able to perform for Hibs.
Not sure if he ever will.

Remembering back to the the first game of the season, we were 2-1 down away to Motherwell and Doidge came on and scored one and knocked the opposition defence about .
Seems a real pity if his strength and fitness have deteriorated to level he can’t make the bench.

He looked nowhere near a starting place but surely an option off the bench until his contract ends. We can't possibly see James Scott as having a future at the club but he is on the bench and actually getting game time.

No idea why. He's been here since August and in all that time I've yet to see him do anything of note.
As for Doidge there's a player there, he just needs to get back to his pre-foot injury form.

No surprise giving his latest outings for the team . Looks a shadow of his former self since his injury.

Maloney did say in his q and a that he had struggled physically from his return from injury and illness.

It is a surprise when James Scott is getting on the pitch.
