Were talking orphans here. Do you think the plane would have flown with the kids on board without permission from the Ukrainian Government. ?If they were going to Poland would they need the permission of the Ukrainian Government?

Yes.

The unfortunate delay is a result of delayed paperwork between Ukraine and Poland. At least that was what was factually reported last night. Not all that surprising I would have thought considering the situation in Ukraine at the moment.

Yes, but is it not that the Home Office are refusing entry on the basis that this paperwork hasn’t been approved. Surely they could allow them entry to the UK and continue the process to obtain the necessary paperwork.

That's too sensible...and we are taking about Patel's "Not Your Home Office" here.

The problem for the civil servants is that they have to play by the rules. If the politicians make bad rules then the CS has to implement them.

The politicians can choose to override the rules for good reasons, but that isn't happening here.

PS the "jackboot" comment about the civil service was well out of line. They are there to do what the politicians in Government enact as policy and, in my experience, do it to the best of their ability whatever their personal political views.

Sorry to go a bit off topic.

This is a truly wonderful thing that Stevie and the rest of the Dnipro Appeal folk and those that are supporting them here are doing, it is a great pity that the thread is being sullied on both sides of the debate by those scoring political points.

These comments would be best kept to a Holy Ground thread unless some of the posters actually believe that their point-scoring posturing on this thread will actually help get the children here.

Sad that folk like the sound of their own voices or espousing their political bias that much that they would do such a thing.

The fact that they were already in Poland, only StevieC will know what permissions were required to get that far, and it didn't seem to take as much effort to get them out of Ukraine as it is to get them into the UK!

Well done all although the major credit seems to being claimed by an Israeli charity who seem to have moved into this operation in a very big way.🤔

The English Home Secretary is no stranger to Israel of course.🤔

Not surprised that Virgin Atlantic are in the thick of it as you can almost rely on that.

Hopefully these children can get some privacy and some peace and quiet and there were nice reassuring words from the Scottish local authorities today trying to calm the media jets.

I was thinking much the same. I would think they all want peace without reporters and cameras intruding.

Every report I've read (dozens) have said this was done by dnipro hibs and almost all have mentioned hibs too. Great well deserved publicity for the charity. They all say dnipro hibs were helped facilitated by project light.

We both don't know the circumstances so don't lead with cynicism in a amazing positive day. I also dislike the home Secretary but keep it out this happy thread. There's a tories and Ukraine thread in the holy ground forum.

Hi there - thanks for your support. Link below is to the relevant page on our website - there's a standing order form at the bottom of the page with all bank details, which should allow you to either set it up via online banking or request your bank to do so. We are obviously very grateful for what the other parties were able to provide, but a little disappointed with their motives and over-playing their involvement.

But .. Lord Harrington from the Home Office has been very supportive of what we were trying to do, and Virgin Atlantic were superb and really spoiled the kids in the short time they were aboard.

The important thing if not the only thing that matters is that you and your amazing back up team achieved the objective and were fabulous in dealing with what must have been a very unfamiliar media, political, logistical and administrative landscape.

Congratulations on a magnificent achievement and you are a charity so deserving of supporting as no doubt the work never stops.

If Edinburgh is not already twinned with Dnipro it should be

We twinned with Kiev when Ukraine was still part of the Soviet Union.
Maybe the Council could revitalise that connection and possibly establish a mutual link with Dnipro.
I am sure many cities in Ukraine will be wishing to forge links with places in the "West" when this cruel madness is over.

Thank you so much for your kind words, and amazing suggestion.

I can’t speak for the other amazing people involved in the charity, but I personally don’t see myself as having done something that would warrant something like that, and would feel a little embarrassed about it if I was honest.

Dnipro Kids has been going for almost 17 years and we simply do it for the love of the amazing kids we support. The only recognition we need are the kind words we receive and the continued financial support for what we do.

Thanks though, it was a nice thought 👍

I am just a small cog in the the wheel of the Committee and I am just in awe of Steven and Duncan's on the ground efforts :not worth

The families only really know Steven, Duncan, Jackie and myself from visiting them over the last 8 years or so, when they became smaller "family type homes" so we are the faces we know, yet Bruce and Robert have been the shifters behind the whole thing.

They have worked with both Stirling and Edinburgh Councils to put everything in place and Rachel has been fantastic in getting the Ukrainian community to work together :not worth

I am going up to meet them on Saturday

Brings a tear to the eye, but in a good way. Such an amazing thing you guys have done. Your selflessness over the years is really inspiring. I can see Dnipro Kids getting support from a lot more people and from a much wider audience now. Judge Rinder going tonto about you guys for example.

The whole thing is way beyond Hibs, but I said it before and il said again, it makes me proud to be a Hibby.

Hopefully now they all have a chance to settle and get their head around wtf has just happened. Sounds like their is a lot of support in the pipeline too.

Look forward to hearing how we can help in the next step of the journey.

Edinburgh is twinned with Kyiv already

If Edinburgh can't then maybe the Peoples Republic of Leith could be twinned with Dnipro.

Priti Patel was previously sacked from her cabinet position for having unauthorised links to Israel.🤔

I don't follow English politics that closely but she then re emerges in a very powerful postion as Home Secretary and in this instance an Israeli charity very closely linked to the Israeli government drops out of the sky to become the "saviour of the Dnpro orphan children".

This is going to be a movie of the future but at least it has a very happy ending and its important not to lose sight of that and all the people who coordinated to make it happen.👍

It's such a wonderful thing that you and your colleagues have done getting these kids to safety in Scotland. I've watched the story unfold on here, in Westminster and on local and national news. I can't imagine what these kids have been through not only during the past month or so, in their life and hope that they manage to get some comfort and happiness while in Scotland. You've all done such an amazing job. Well done.

I would like to make a small donation of £200 to the Dnipro kids charity and would appreciate it if you could tell me where to transfer the money too.

Thank you very much.

You’re recognition should go beyond Hibs my friend, it should come in the Honours List. Although you’d then be in the company of those ratbags mentioned elsewhere. Most people were respectful and appreciative of everything you did for these kids before now. Now those people are in awe of you.

Having received a call from an intermediate in this situation, I have agreed to remove my post regarding my anger at the Adrian Chiles interview and will step back and leave them to claim whatever credit they want from this mission. At the end of the day any additional funding they get on the back of the claims will hopefully benefit those that need it, and that's all that matters.

I know what happened, and many others involved know what happened, and I am safe in the knowledge that I open to scrutiny.

We know some politicians can be economical with the truth,or spin, when it suits them.
For a very well known "humanitarian aid worker" to bend the truth demeans the individual and does not help those who are genuinely dedicated in doing charitable work.

Well done in getting the kids over. The people who did the work and their friends and family will know who has been responsible. With any high profile issue there will always be people keen to 'help' with their self image to the fore but clearly that isn't the case with Dnipro Kids organisation itself who have always been humble and put the kids first. That's why many people and organisations outside just the Hibs community have tried to help, the emphasis being on help not getting themselves centre stage.

I think its right to stand back from all the media side except to thank those who have really contributed to your success.

There are greater rewards than the media attention and I'm sure seeing the kids safe and happy will be the biggest reward.

Stevie, the work you and your team have done to secure the childrens safety is an absolute inspiration.

You don’t do it for plaudits however you deserve every bit of good grace coming your way.

You are a credit to yourself and your family and I echo the earlier sentiment that I couldn’t think of any better to become a (collective) member of the Hibernian HoF than DniproHibs and everyone involved.
