View Full Version : Take a bow ever Hibs player on that pitch today

Nearly a whole team of possible first team players out, and held Celtic in the way they did. Well done. We didn’t look like Barcelona. But every player can hold their heads high. Macey, Wright and Campbell take pelters. I will hold my hands up, I have criticised those guys. Well done today lads!
I am not celebrating Hibs drawing with Celtic, but given the circumstances, the players gave their all.

Yeah everyone gave their all. Jasper was knackered but kept plugging away and summed up the attitude of every player today.

Just back from game. For me special mention to drey wright. Watched him closely all game and the guy hardly put a foot wrong. Caught in possession a couple of times but that was it. Doubt very much if he looks in here (hope not for his sake) but if he does...well done today.

Agreed, hope he takes confidence from that display today.

Everyone including Shaun Maloney deserves a lot of praise. A very strong performance but the shortage of opportunities was a bit disappointing. Never going to create a barrowload against Celtic but was hoping for more than we did.
I didn’t have high hopes today so pleased with a point and enjoyed the afternoon.

Agreed.
I thought they al put in a lot of effort, including Drey Wright, who was rightly applauded off the pitch.

My first game this season, pleased with result and effort, can’t stand this playing it out from the back and being pressed every time we do it. Maloney has long term plan though so let’s see what happens.

That gives me the fear, but thought they looked much more comfortable at it than they have been. The problems that has caused us made me very nervous about today. The boys did well.

I thought drey Wright had a great game and good work rate. Kind of knew that he would be taken off though.

Wasn't very optimistic before kickoff although I did say I'd take a draw. The whole team did well and repelled everything Celtic threw at us , hopefully this gives them something to build on

Result was merited and players gave everything but yet again it is a game where we have few shots on goal and zero shots on target. That's football nobody wants to watch. Boring.

We did really well today and competed for everything. With so many injuries, it was a big performance. I thought Celtic were pish, to be honest.

I wasn't bored in the slightest.
I saw a young team missing 10 players fight for every ball and keep the best forward line in the country quiet.
Not sure what more they could have done.

I'm concerned about our lack of threat up front as well but I wouldn't describe today's game as boring.

It’s choosing when I thing. A good few times we played it through the press and found a lot of space.
Both teams were guilty of bad judgement.

Good result. Very organised and defended well. Campbell / Wright had better games than we’ve seen from them. We were very deep at points, little to no out ball for the majority of the match. Few times where Doidge / Jasper had the ball up top and there was no one around them. Really lacked pace in that starting 11 too. Good point against a Celtic team not at the races today.

Very good performance which, on top of those v Arbroath & Ross County, inspires growing confidence in Maloney as manager - well done all round! At this rate some day Maloney may even gain the conspicuous honour of having a <Manager's Name Colour Colour Army> Hibs.net smiley created in his name! Steady on though - one swallow does not make a summer etc - greatly encouraging though :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Agreed. We also got wired in when we had to and that was good to see rather than getting rolled over. While we were on top during that spell, stronger refereeing would have benefited us too. We were about a half dozen attacks in on Jasper before he had a word.

I did not see the game and was reliant on a commentary on Youtube by 'Pure Scottish Football' and one thing that pleased me was we seemed to defend crosses into our box much better.
I wonder if Maloney will get a full squad to pick from before the season's end. Would be nice :)

:agree: the ref’s reluctance to get the cards out was brutal. Think someone mentioned it took until their eleventh foul to get their first booking.

A few people quite touchy today:wink:
I said we merited the result and the players worked hard and the draw was hard fought but it wasn't an exciting game imo.
I was mostly referring to the football we have played recently. Passing out from the back, a lot of passes in our own half, plenty possession but little penetration. We have had a few games recently with no shots on target over 90 minutes. I find that boring, but hopefully it's a work in progress and returning players and new players might give us a bit more drive as they come back in to the team.

Agree really enjoyed the game effort and heart put in by the team. Also a good result for Shaun obviously had a plan and it worked well. The context of the number of players we have out an excellent point all things considered.

Rogic never does much at Easter Road. Infact, Celtic rarely do anything at Easter Road these days anymore.

I think we looked more of a threat until Nisbet went off. He was busting a gut and I don't think Doidge managed to have the same impact when I came on. That said, we do need to be more of a threat going forward, even with Nisbet in the team.

We committed 9 fouls and ended up with 5 yellows. Celtc committed 16 fouls for 2 cards.

Worked really hard and were very well organised. Playing out from the back worked a few times before Celtc pressed up and then it was more likely to hurt than help us. We did really well to keep it going for the 90 when Allan and Doidge came one. Those two along with Mueller must be some of the slowest players in the league. Some very good individual performances with Campbell. Wright and Porteous best for me. And I thought Jasper did really well keeping going and playing pretty well further back. Maloney has made us hard to score against but we look even less likely to score now than we did under Ross. Early days though and a positive result against the best team in the league.

At Celtic Park, he probably does. Don't think he's ever been exceptional at ER. Although he's a lovely player, always in control of the ball.

Heading down St Clair Street after the game and said to my brother that it was difficult to pick out a man of the match as you could potentially ask 5 folk and get 5 different players whom you cold agree with.
Was a good, all-round, team performance. Perhaps lacking a bit up front in terms of chances created but that was pretty much a full strength Celtic team and we had a number of players out and each player worked tremedeously hard and well for a well fought and deserved point :agree:

Congrats, great thread. You can't turn poor players into stars but you can ask and expect every player to give 100% and that is what we got today. And along the way we saw some excellent skill from some much maligned players.I

He was exceptional in the first half before he went off injured the last time they came to Easter Road. His performance that night essentially ended Gogic’s Hibs career under Jack Ross. He was anonymous today though.

I think we did extremely well today given the circumstances and I was entertained.
Your comment seemed totally counter to my thinking. Though I went back to 2017 and it seems at ER in the league these are the stats:
Games played 9
Hibs wins 2
Draws 6
Celtic wins 1
🤯Thats some great reading.

I didn’t even realise Rogic was playing today until he got announced as going off. Normally I rate him as one of Celtic’s best players, so full credit to Hibs for keeping him so quiet.
