I'd like to ask people to stop posting Twitter links with no explanation of what they're about.

It's extremely frustrating and unhelpful, and I can't be the only one who won't open them which is a pity because they may contain interesting and/or important information.

It will help the conversation if even a small précis is provided.

Thanks.

(I fully realise that the temptation to post a hilarious lone Twitter link in reply to this will be too strong for some.)

I agree with this request, as it's pretty easy for us all to look at whichever news or social media outlets we choose to, without being bombarded on this site with constant snippets of supposed breaking news items which are often from very unreliable sources.

I was just thinking this same thing when reading the Ukraine thread, as I decided to pass over a couple of posts which just had links.
Tbf I think sometimes this happens when people post links from a phone, but certainly if I post a Twitter link from a desktop I try to include some description of what its about.

So thanks for posting something which I had also noticed.

Same. Agree with all points made in above posts.

Not just twitter but any link should have some sort of explanation, summary or even copy and paste a relevant paragraph or two would help. As for stuff that's behind a paywall ...

When I view on Tapatalk, any Twitter link is pretty much shown in full, with even the videos shown? Is it not the same for everyone?

Especially for us old farts who struggle with technology. Plus of course so much bogus rubbish out there.

I can't remember if I got round to posting it in the pet peeves thread or not, but I'd agree and expand beyond just Twitter.

I don't understand why people post links to news articles etc without any indication of what it's about (obviously it's relevant generally to the topic of the thread, but they can be quite broad on here) or providing your own thoughts on the piece and why it's interesting.

The Twitter screenshots/imbeds aren't too bad as you can at least see and read them on the same webpage you're currently on.

How about the site gets with the times and allows folk to embed tweets?

Has any work been done to improve the forum in the last 10/15 year?

Some, even most, don't use Tapatalk. I don't like the unexplained links, regardless of what they are. Pasting the text is a useful thing for us luddites.

It's not. On the majority of platforms you only see the link.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkYes that's true if you're accessing the site via Tapatalk, but that's only an option for mobiles and tablets I think?

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkThe only problem with that is that it seems to have stopped opening the Twitter link now. This is a fairly recent issue. 25599

Just download it from the App Store and then log it into your Hibs.net account. Makes browsing really quick and easy compared with a web view of the site.

You’re right I can see the links much better and can tell what they’re about before clicking them.
Cheers.

Agreed.

I dont click them unless there is an explanation of what it is about.

No offence Ozzy but you must be the biggest culprit 😂

Edit: just seen Ozzy"s explanation.

I'll need to do some digging to work this one out.
