Going like hot cakes. Imagine with the Celtic game being an early kick off there'll be a lot of empty seats, so S Johnstone will be only our second full house in 2 years. Can't wait.

Highly doubt it will be full. There will still be season ticket holders who won’t be there. But it will be fuller. Which is great.

Had a look at the map on eticketing and was surprised at how many tickets have been sold. I expected it to add a good number to the gate but it’s looking really good with a couple of weeks to go. Hope we can get a positive result or two before it and really push the remaining tickets with the possibility of opening up the south.

Certainly shows that cheaper pricing can drive increased numbers. Obviously it’s impossible to make it a fiver every week, but it’s going to give them something to think about.

I just heard of this last night. delighted that we can do this now and again. Is it through the strip sponsors, or something like that? was discussing it, outside the Hibernian supporters club when a guy said....I don't think its fair. we then said.....whats yer problem, we are all season ticket holders, and happy to see more in, as many family people just cant afford things. he was a ST holder like me but was not happy that away fans got in for a cheap price. totally threw me !!!

Its a great initiative, well done Hibs

Living in Oz, I watch games on Hibs TV so was happy to buy up 4 tickets as a donation and hopefully whoever gets them enjoys the game. They may not be able to afford to get to the game now but if their lives change then hopefully Hibs will get additional season ticket holders out of it.

They’ll still have the 2 end sections of the upper in that half of the stand to sell. Looks like they’ll probably sell it out by the time the game comes around at the rate they’ve sold the 2 and a half sections in the lower

Well done to the club & fans that are buying these up. I must say I wasn’t fully behind the notion that lower prices = higher attendances, however on the basis of this ‘case study’ the results seem pretty emphatic.

Clearly it isn’t viable for the club to sell every game for a fiver but it does make you wonder, is there a more creative approach to pricing? Ie could the season ticket be rebranded as a club membership, where you get access to the games plus other perks; but walk ups are cheaper? Obviously the “other perks” would have to be appealing enough to entice people to commit to the membership/season ticket.

gbhibby
21-02-2022, 09:25 PM
I would imagine the sales at the kiosks will be much higher than usual and probably extra money spent in the club shop. Dynamic Pricing is the way forward. Let's get the place sold out.
I was reading about American sports that have cut price tickets for some games and the spend on food and drink is considerably higher than games where normal prices are charged. It also looks like St Johnstone have sold a lot more tickets than they would normally sell for the game.
The club should be applauded for this.👏👏👏

I’d be more than happy for Hibs to do this with 3 or 4 of the more boring Saturday at 3 games a season. Maybe one in August, one in December/January when people generally have less money and another before the split. Would get people through the door at key points in the season and give the team a boost for games that would normally be half empty games played to no atmosphere

King Cosell

These figures are not 100% accurate, obvs:

Average ticket price is around £18 and we'd normally have around 3000 punters buying tickets for a St Johnstone game - £54,000

If we can sell 7000 tickets at £5 - £35,000

Throw in extra food and merch sales and the club aren't really losing much money.

I read that in the states when they do this people do spend more on other thing catering etc. In Germany where ticket prices are lower their match day revenue per fan is almost on a par with some of EPL clubs. They do serve alcohol at games in Germany but that is another issue that Ron is looking at.

Bought a few extra tickets for St Johnstone and Celtic this morning, I’ve received the confirmation email from the club but I haven’t received the tickets after opting for print at home. I’ve emailed the club and they have told me to get in touch with ticketmaster. Has anyone had a similar problem or have an email address to get in contact with them?

I’ve also checked spam/junk mail and there’s nothing there either.

Seriously? There are people who have spent £400 on Season tickets who rarely attend, I think there's a high probability that some - more occasional supporters, gifted a free ticket, or charged what amounts to about the price of a pint, may not necessarily turn up on the day.

If we can sell 19000 tickets and there are 2000 no shows it is still loads more than are turning up just now. The atmosphere will be a lot better and will maybe push us on to a much needed win

I think St Johnstone or Ross County would be the best bets. Smallest away supports in the league. Wouldn't want to give Dundee United the chance to bring 2k/2.5k fans down to back them. They'd easily take that. Be surprised if St Johnstone take a little over 1k even at a fiver. I know we might not be playing them again though.

St Johnstone well on their way to selling out. Bottom tier sold and a section and a bit to go in the top tier. Their allocation will be the same as any other team (outside of the Hearts, Celtic and Rangers) would get if we do it again in future.

I assume you mean the South Upper rather than throwing a large number of our own fans out of their own seats which have a far better view than being stuck behind a goal.

Agree though about only having a small number of visitors. It's our stadium, so it's up to us to generate the atmosphere to boost our own players and not away fans to do so to the benefit of their side. Away fans tend to be vocal anyway because they've made the effort to travel.

Nope ment the west upper. Always been against away fans being behind the goal. Especially in the lower tier. Just gives them a needless advantage. Would much rather our fans were behind both goals.

Nope ment the west upper. Always been against away fans being behind the goal. Especially in the lower tier. Just gives them a needless advantage. Would much rather our fans were behind both goals.

Most of the away supports in the league and cup can be easily accommodated in a corner of the South Upper, with only three exceptions (Ugly Sisters, Hearts).

You'd also need to kick the Hibs supporters from the West Lower as well because you can't have away fans above home fans. Particularly if it's the Ugly Sisters or Hearts.

Then there's the problem of segregating Ugly Sisters and Hearts fans from the Hibs support in the central sections of the West. You'd be asking fans to fork out for hospitality only to spend 90 minutes stuck next to raging bigots or Jambos.

So unless we fill in the South West corner and stick away fans there (not happening - it's needed for vehicle access and there isn't any demand for more seats), the best place for them is the South.

Might sound a bit OTT but Saturday could be a big moment in our season - packed-out ER, big atmosphere with a performance and goals to go with it could be a huge lift for the club at a very important point in the season. Be interesting if Saturday could spur both the team and support on for some more positive occasions for the remainder of the season.

The league (behind the OF) is waiting on someone to catch a bit of proper form. Why not us. (a win at Dundee first of course :greengrin)

It is a great initiative and could well pay for itself with larger future attendances. I also think that all the Hibs kids games should be made a fiver for everyone as that could let the kids see a good atmosphere and might get them chipping away at the parents. If nothing else it is a game that would have been very sparsely attended and now may actually have more bums on seats than the Celtic match

So with the segregation in place, there should be an 'attendance' of ~19k at the weekend.

Surely unheard of for a game against St Johnstone.

Saints fan at work says they've sold 1500 so pretty good for them.

Stuart Cosgrove said on Off The Ball at the weekend St Johnstone had confirmed sales of about 1500 as of Friday so reckon that will be close. Decent effort.

I'm not sure this is proof that lowering prices guarantees long term increases in attendances any more than the Cove game proved the opposite but it's certainly an experiment worth repeating a few times to see the impact.

Other clubs have tried this and failed miserably , Motherwell and Killie spring to mind. As a starting point , it goes to show that we at very least have a support base there that these initiatives are worth trying. Its how we convert a decent percentage into becoming regular attendees that is the tricky part for us

I wonder if this is the start of a long term plan from the club. A German style where tickets are cheap but the place is sold out several times a season might pay for itself? by the time food and club shop sales are accounted for?

Really looking forward to Saturday!

£5 isn’t a viable option regularly. And as seen with cup ties, £10/15 doesn’t entice fans to take it up on a grand scale. Pricing is a factor, but the argument of dropping the price by a tenner getting thousands more bums on seats doesn’t stack up with the proof.

It’s an outstanding initiative though from Hibs and hopefully a big performance to get some of todays crowd becoming regulars again.

Eyrie
05-03-2022, 09:29 AM
Making tickets £5 has a one off value in persuading fans to attend as a one-off but, as has been pointed out, isn't sustainable. First and Second division teams will charge more than that every week.

However the £5 experiment will only work if we play well today and persuade fans to return. That means the pointless ponderous passing at the back has to stop and risks must be taken by looking for quick passes forward to prevent St Johnstone being able to settle into a good defensive shape. Losing the ball in the final third is a risk worth taking if a successful pass leads to a scoring opportunity for us.

Allan has that skill set and mentality, but is clearly out of favour with Maloney and so isn't going to be fit enough to give us 90 minutes. Henderson looks like he could develop into that player but he needs encouraged to make the positive mistakes by both Maloney and the fans. if he misplaces the pass, then a ripple of applause for the intent is far better than muttering about the outcome.

Would hope every single fan that has a season ticket and can’t make today would put it up for resale - makes no sense not to. Although the derby was sold out there were still loads of empty seats, a chance for Hibs and the fan to make a wee bit more money, and the atmosphere to be rocking.

Think the club will be doing a bit of number crunching after todays game. There will be an price where the club will wash its face. If you compare the money at the gate today and compare it to previous home games against the same opposition it may well be higher. I think we might see today's exercise repeated. Kids who are attending their first game will love it and pester parents to taking them to more games.Dynamic pricing is the way forward and the club should be applauded for taking this step. Cutting season ticket prices might not be a bad shout.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against lower prices. It's just that if we do this regularly it will affect season ticket prices.

Imagine a situation where it's a lot cheaper to PATG. Sales of season tickets would plummet.

Just something the club will have to factor in.

That aside, I'm looking forward to a nearly full stadium today

The way it works in American sports is games are identified where cut price deals will be offered. This is then factored into the season ticket price so that season ticket holders are not adversely affected.

That would probably be the fairest way to do it. This is a great initiative and I'm sure there will be elements of American Sport that will cross the water successfully. I just hope Ron doesn't think this is the same marketplace although very sadly we do seem to get a bit more American as the years go by

It needs about 1500 more to join the signing section to make that work. There appear to be about 100 in that area who are at normal league games and less for early round cup games

It's probably easier for pricing as most American sports have no relegation and promotion, but you tend to know who will be in the league the following season by the time season tickets are released.

If there's only a few dozen who want to sing it doesn't really matter where you put them, the evidence is there from the multiple moves to date that were meant to boost the atmosphere. Anyone who thinks throwing the family section out is going to magic up a 1500 strong section of new supporters is away with it. The family section even with the level of non attendance is considerably bigger in number than the singing section, club would be mad to upset these people to facilitate moving a handful of others (yet again).

The way it works in American sports is games are identified where cut price deals will be offered. This is then factored into the season ticket price so that season ticket holders are not adversely affected.

Sounds a great idea

Sadly the club have said they won’t change it next season.

Opportunity missed I feel.

Fingers crossed next season will be last season we have to witness an empty FF most weeks.

The low attendance there most games means it should be a priority. But converting lower tier to safe stand will be expensive, especially at the moment with prices for everything so high.

Yip 8000 walk ups at a fiver £40k
even 3000 at £22 is 66k.

That's a lot of pies to sell every week just to break even.

Fwiw I would happily pay my full price season ticket, and let walk-ups in for a fiver, if it meant a full house every week. :)

As expected - still thousands of empty seats.

Was there a rush of opera fans bought tickets. If this is what passes for entertainment at the fitba I think I'll take up smoking and go for a fly fag at half time. First time I have ever not enjoyed SOL at the fitba and it dragged the atmosphere out of the crowd that was building nicely

Yeh, the east looks about 75% full. Really strange.

South Lower and ffl patchy too.

Though I'm watching on TV, so not got the best view.

The positive with the £5 ticket is that it attracts more thru the door with the hope that they will come again. The downside is that if you only pay £5 then it’s an easier decision not to go if something else comes up.
Good initiative though, we should repeat, it would help if the football was better and we were scoring, then folk might be tempted to come back to the full price games.

I expected loads of empty seats in the season ticket areas but what happened to the 'sold out' South Stand?

Nothing on show today will encourage more through the door. The opposite is more likely with more season ticket holders giving up the ghost.

Correct.

This was the one game where we absolutely had to entertain the fans.
