After JDH scoring today it got me thinking about the variety of goalscorers and how it compares to when Ross was here.

Judging it across Maloney’s first 11 games and Ross’ last 11 here are the current stats

Ross

Boyle - 5
Nisbet - 3
Murphy - 1

Maloney

Nisbet - 2
Cadden - 2
Mitchell - 2
JDH - 2
Mueller - 1
Porteous - 1
Murphy - 1

Also worth noting of the above stats 2 out of Boyles 5 were pens and Maloney has yet to have a pen since joining.

Shows you how reliant the team were on Boyle and how big a void it’s left, glad to see more goals coming from different areas.

Also, Henderson despite only joining a month ago should pretty easily be on about 4 goals. He’s not though and that’s where we need to get better and I’m glad Maloney keep going on about it, we need to be clinical and kill teams off.

Hopefully Hendo, Doig, Cadden, Mitchell and Mueller can start scoring on a consistent basis along with the likes of Nisbet, Melkersen and Doidge.

The over reliance on Boyle was ridiculous and imo is why we couldn’t advance and win the cups, St Johnstone etc knew if they stopped him we were done.

Think the most telling/worrying stat from that is 9 goals from 3 games vs. 11 goals from 11 games.

Should we not be comparing 11 games vs 11 games to get a better picture?

To be fair to OP I think it’s just a typo as those are the goal stats from JRs last 11 games. It’s maybe an unfair comparison though as that was effectively our worst run under JR and he didn’t have the same players at his disposal as Maloney does now.

However, we have all been saying for ages that our midfield don’t score enough goals so it is good to see more of the new signings able to chip in. Cadden has really stepped up to the plate since Boyle left and you could argue that he was being stifled to an extent playing in that system behind Boyle or out on the left. Understandable though because Boyle was that good.

With Magennis still to be added into this team we could be in a much better position for regular goalscorers. I think a poacher type striker could still get a barrel load of goals the way we play though so I would still like us to sign someone of that ilk unless Melkerson fits the bill.

Apologies, it is of course comparing the last 11 of Ross and first 11 of Maloney.

No idea how I made that type, changed now.

👍👍

Before yesterday I can’t even remember and shots JDH has had. In his post match interview he says he’s always there waiting for one to come out but I hope these goals give him the confidence to attempt more shots from open play.

Hopefully we see Magennis again this season but his arriving late in the box is something we’ve been missing. More of Caddens crosses would be getting converted if he had more than Nisbet to aim for.
