Yep, very good effort, we've been needing someone from the midfield to take a shot, well done JDH.

Agreed. Good player who's suffered because we've not had the balance right in midfield. Great performance.

Funny as I thought he was struggling first half but after the goal suddenly looked full of confidence and back to the player he was at the start of the season.

Two brilliant goals today. We need more days like today where the midfield chip in with goals.

Me too, he's had a bit of a hard time with injuries and catching covid, which reading between the lines must have been quite bad, taken him a bit of time to get up to speed.

I was impressed by his early performances, then Covid arrived and he dropped off a bit, but he was so good early on, I've been hoping he would recover his early form and today he showed he is going to be a great hibee

The missing part of his game he showed today

Showed what he is capable of if he just pushes forward a bit more. After a poor first half the whole team showed the difference a bit more urgency makes. 2nd goal was top drawer.

Amazing what happens when you hit a shot. Agree about the first, goalie should have saved. Second was outstanding.

The keeper saw it very late and I think there may have been a slight deflection.

Why would anyone even think of terming him a villain?

He’s an excellent player at this level - absolute load of rubbish been said about the guy recently.

Im not sure if it was a previously used chant or if was an impromptu composition. Obviously needs a bit of work. It was a bit like an Easter Road version of The Beatles "Get Back" film.

Unseen work
19-02-2022, 08:29 PM
I’ve always been a fan of JDH, think he does a lot of unseen work that he doesn’t get credit for.

Very comfortable in possession and the thing he needs to work on is turning and playing forward which he’s doing.

Then adding goals and boy did he do that today, he was brilliant even without scoring.

Think people forget he’s not long turned 23 too.

Two good goals but the second was the best. What a strike that was.

Maybe his colleagues will now follow his lead and occasionally actually shoot at goal instead of sending the ball out wide all the time

Came through Villas academy so actually sorta works in two ways, although he was far from a villain here, just had a few iffy games. Class always shines through and JDH has been brilliant bar the last month or two for us.

He did well in the second half. Think he benefits from having someone that really gets stuck in next to him, as demonstrated by Lewis last week, and Newell when he performs that roll.

Really weird this, for the last few weeks I've been moaning to my mates about our inability to score, or even attempt to score, from outside the box and boom one of our players does it twice in the same game, including a contender for goal of the season ,, it's a funny old world, well done JDH

Thought when the goal went in that had Macey conceded that shot he would be getting slated on here.

Interesting opinion from the Pie and Bovril man. We’ve rarely seen anything from him going forward due to role he’s been asked to play.

We played Hallberg as a sitting midfielder when he was a creative player for his previous club and Sweden.

But then again, a proper defensive midfielder doesn't have a regular role at Hibs. Bartley was in and out of the team and despite being a regular in a 3rd place team, Gogic got absolutely no respect.

20-02-2022, 08:17 AM
Not a fan of 2 sitting midfielders at all, I think it leaves us well short in bodies when we attack with most of the threat coming down the wings leaving Nisbet, normally, the sole Hibs player in the box to find when a cross comes in. There were a number of times we were breaking with possession and Josh and JDH were sauntering down the park, really does boil my xxxx. Slaughtered the midfield 3 in the first half so more than happy to be put back in my place by JDH.🤷🏼

He performs very well more often than not.

Unfortunately him and Newell have been getting unwarranted stick because of this complete myth that they never pass the ball forward.

Maybe if people let players play without unrealistic pressure they’d perform better? In the 1st half you could hear audible shouts of “forward! forward!” at him from some idiots - how does that help? Let the boy play - he’s excellent at SPFL level.

I don’t think shouting forward is particularly idiotic, especially not in the first half yesterday when we didn’t pass forward nearly enough. When we did play forward in the second half we were pretty decent. Nothing particularly unrealistic about expecting more than what we’ve had from the middle of the park this season. Unrealistic pressure would be expecting him to score two goals including a 25 yard volley every week (which nobody does).

I thought he had a great game in Brondby, probably the first any of us had seen of him. It was the fellah that missed the penalty with a weak attempt that cost us!

He drove forward more yesterday than I’ve seen him do. Increased his shots at goal ratio by 100% and doubled his goal tally at his previous club.
All his mates over for the day as well to see a true match winning Man of the Match performance.
Great stuff, love the lad.

He did have a good game that night. Remember being behind the goals thinking he should have kept a couple out, that he got hands to, though. Remember one quite similar to yesterday in a semi final against Celtic, that he kind of fumbled in to the net as well.

Likewise, but I remember him keeping one or two out he’d no right to. Goalies I suppose.....

Genuinely chuffed for him. You could see how much the goal meant to him when he was celebrating.

Showed yesterday exactly what he's capable of. Some great forward passing and broke play up really well. Hopefully yesterday's performance is what he needed.
