I'm staying in the premier inn at south queensferry and I got the number 34 bus from princess street yesterday.
All though the fair was £1.80 when I go on my banking app it comes up as £0.10p?
This was the exact same last time I was up, not complaining at all about it lol just curious.

It's because of the contactless cap.
It calculates all your taps on a giving day and charges at some point during the night. So 2 taps will charge you £3.60, a 3rd will see it cap at the day ticket price.

For me I always see the £1.80 which becomes £3.60 when I get the bus home. Yet to actually hit the cap with a third journey in the same day.

I imagine it's the same as the fuel pumps where they take a small ammount to proce its a legit card you are using then charge the full amount the next day. Usually at the forecourt it's £1

My wee sister was telling me the other day that they were taking £99 at forecourt’s and then refunding the difference? I never use pay at pump so have no idea?

Never had that, at Tesco they take £1 then rob the remaining £90 the next day from me.

Some do that if you’re paying with a credit card

Seen that as well.
Apparently it’s the card companies that have done it rather than the petrol stations themselves.
You’ll have £99 ring fenced now instead of £1.

They won't actually take £99, that's just the maximum they can take, if you use say £30 it'll only take out £30. The LRT bus is excellent. No need to take out any money and only pay what you use.

The Sainsbury’s garage near me takes £100 and refunds it. I thought it was fraud the first time I noticed it but the next transaction was a £100 credit. It must be a dummy transaction even if the refund is instantaneous as what would happen if you didn’t have £100 in your account 🤔

It also keeps track of your spend during the week and caps you at £20. I'd maybe have hit that back in the days of working every day and then a weekend trip to the football (although at that point I had a ridacard anyway) but my bus use is much more sporadic now.
It's a fantastic addition to what is a fantastic bus service.

When I read the news article last week the suggestion was that if you don’t have £100 then your card will be declined. You can however just go into the station and pay at the till with your card (on the presumption it’s not a solely pay at the pump station). Doing it that way means you’ll only be charged what you spend.

I've read about people going into overdraft or having direct debits declined due to their money being in limbo. It can take longer than expected for your money to be released from the transaction pending column.

The company has 28 days to release it but most do it after 2 days.
