I’ve just seen this on the OldScottish Football Pictures Facebook page. Never knew about this !
Easter Road Park Halt railway station was opened in 1950 by British Railways to service nearby Easter Road Stadium.
It consisted of one wooden platform and was open solely on match days for arrivals only. Fans would have to make their return journey at the end of the game from neighbouring stations in Leith, Abbeyhill or Waverley.
It was closed in July 1967.

Yes. There was always a surge of people coming up the hill from the turnstiles at the Dunbar end-particularly when the OF were involved. As Hibs always tried the play up the hill in the first half there were a lot of us there as well. There used to be some interesting confrontations.

There was a station at Easter Rd under the bridge, platforms are still visible and theres plenty photos of it online as well. Part of the Abbeyhill triangle, long disused now but the line to Powderhall is still there albeit mothballed.

The remains of the old platform and the walkways up to the car park were still visible in the early 80’s until the cutting was filled in by earth and concrete removed when the east terrace was reduced and covered in about 1986.

Soon to be converted in to a foot/cycle path connecting Meadowbank to Powderhall.

Used to muck about down there in the early 80's, there
was a burnt out car on the track bed at the platform for
years. Greyhound kennels were on the other side of the embankment. 👍😁

Tracks will need lifted and debris cleared first. I didn't think they lifted mothballed lines these days incase demands for traffic returned as British Rail and now Network Rail have had their fingers burnt with those nonsense decisions in the past.

All the old lines in Edinburgh that are currently footpaths should be converted to tram lines, plenty room for tram lines and footpaths to exist alongside each other. Would be some tram network if they did that.

Sensible suggestions like that would never get through any council committee.

I think that we’re talking about 2 separate lines here. The one at the Hibs club connected Granton, Powderhall, Abbeyhill. The other one started at Leith central running behind the East terracing and also past Lochend park, to Abbeyhill which was filled in I think to accommodate “ famous butterfly development “

By the time they've discussed it, raised funds (but not enough), mothballed it, brought it back up again, raised more funding due it doubling in cost, we'll all be using self-drive electric passenger drones, so Ron would be as well investing now in rooftop parking.
Edit: I say "we" but .......

We used to get a few bottles of Solripe that the guys who worked there hid at the fence. When we got a bit bolder it was into the brewery for waste cans. If you were lucky they had beer in them but some were just water

Used to spend may summers at a relatives house in Aberdour, scouring the beaches for Solripe and Globe bottles so I could collect the deposit money on them...nice little holiday earner :greengrin

Globe pineapple was the drink of choice in those days. When you look at the old railway lines in Edinburgh and what Transport system we could have had. As usual a lack of vision by the council. Now we are looking at opening old railway lines and stations.

There's a programme cover from 50/51 that I can't quite put my hands on that features a photo of Hibs and local dignitaries opening the halt.
If I can be bothered later I'll look it out.

I’d completely forgot about the greyhound kennels, I always used to see men walking about 10 dogs at once at Quarry Holes when I was walking my dogs when I was wee.

That’s on the east boundary of the old car park.
In addition to the Railway station a fleet of special doubledecker buses used to run to the ground from the top of Niddry St. One of my earliest memories is standing in the queue while my Dad and Uncle went in for a pint! Child cruelty probably explains a lot! Buses probably stopped in 60s.

Thats the old Powderhall branch the runs under Easter Road at the corner of Albion road, the platform at Meadowbank is still there but long disused, the station was only used for the Commonwealth games. Thats one part of the Abbeyhill Triange and if theres any old BR guys on here then they'll tell you that the used to turn sets on the triangle to get them facing the right direction, that was all finished by the time I started but the lines were still in situ but all lifted now except the branch to Powderhall which is where they used to take domestic waste to be sorted/incinerated.

Absolutely spit on, tram lines alongside footpath and cycle lanes Woolf be great for safety as well as connectivity. Would be used more at night with trams and lighting

Soon to be converted in to a foot/cycle path connecting Meadowbank to Powderhall.I really hope this goes through but I don't think it's been confirmed yet. My flat looks directly onto the railway line and it would be ideal for me get about Edinburgh on foot or cycle

Don’t think so. The width of two tram tracks would take up the full width of most of the old suburban rail tracks.
When the original tram layout was proposed back in whenever , there was going to be a tram line from Granton on the line to Murrayfield connecting with the airport to city centre line at Russel road/ Balbirnie
I’m sure there was not going to be any footpath/ biketrack included in that scheme if it had gone ahead.

What about a one way single tram line operating a continuous circle? Would that work?

You don't need two track, all you need is a single track and passing loops at tram stops.
Theres a concrete run off that was built near Murrayfieldat the back of haymarket depot from the airport direction only but tracks were never actually laid of course.
