Got an email from Hibs about this.

It’s a long way from being my favourite Hibs top, never liked that badge design, but interesting to note it’s the first in a series of retro releases by the club.

hope to some day get my hands on the near mythical 1989/90 shirt

The collar is completely different to the original, which is strange in a replica.

On the subject of shirts, where is the best place to sell a original 80s adidas hibs shirt? EBay or are there specialist sites for football shirts out there?

Really liked the 70s one that was released a couple of years ago, really good quality and like it how it's so simple.

I've always wanted us to bring back a modern version of that kit, mainly because it was the strip the year I was born.

It's not the best as far as replicas go, the collar is nothing like the original. I'll probably still buy it for the reason above though.

I'm hoping for the Adidas one from when John Collins was playing.

That's the first badge I remember, and I'm surprised that it is being used again after the Lord Lion stopped the use of the crown back then.

I thought that as well, or the cuffs. Nothing like the original which is a shame despite claiming 'relentless attention to detail'!! Far better replicas out there.

It's so bad.

Really hate when they try to do remakes. The originals will never be bettered.

This guy off Twitter always looking for old Hibs kits

He would give you an offer for an 80s adidas. Hibernian retro always looking for them too so would likely do the same.

I reckon ebay might be best way though if you generate a bidding war. If its in good condition you should expect 200 quid at least.

The shirt I got from diamond retro looks better than that!

Classic football shirts have one Adidas shirt for £399.99 on their website. Try them. :aok:

I'd love a proper authentic Adidas 1991 cup winning shirt. Thing of beauty.

Is there any reason why it doesn't match the original? Is it a copyright issue?

When I was at primary school, one boy's mum made him a Scotland 1978 World Cup shirt, the diamonds down the sleeves were egg-shaped. This shirt is slightly better.

Maybe the Hibernian trust would be interested and would maybe display the shirt/ shirts for all to see if they don’t have them. It’s a shame the Trust are never thought of as its in house and keeps it in the Hibernian family

Got the 70s one and the 50s Famous Five one at the same time. I do prefer the 70s one with the HFC design. I just love the simplicity of them and how they're not full of patterns or sponsors.

I realise we live in different times now and sponsorships are a necessity but if Hibs released a 70s or 50s inspired top as an actual top for next season it would fly off the shelves.

The problem with the adidas shirts being remade is that it’s the adidas stripes and logo which make it so iconic for a lot of people. If you take the stripes away from an adidas top, which we’d need to do whilst contracted to Joma, it loses a lot of the design for me.

Hoping the club sign on with adidas at some point in the future and includes a remake of the 90s shirts as part of the deal.

Reasonable remakes of this shirt and the addidas shirts appear from time to time on dp retro but use paypal...

True. I've got 4 decades worth of Hibs strips which must be worth well into the thousands of pounds now.

I think if I do ever get rid of them then that might be good to give them to the trust.

But if I need money at some point then selling them through ebay/twitter would have to take preference.

Also I'm not sure the trust does that much promotion about itself. I've been contacted by a few prominent Hibs accounts looking for strips on Twitter but never by the trust and never seen much about them.

the 70s one with the HFC on the front is just a thing of beauty. Have it myself.

Regarding your second point. 150th anniversary coming up. Who knows. Maybe the club should give a range of options eg the original white shirt with a harp on the breast, the all green top we wore after that, the 1950s FF one, and the 70s TT one, and get season ticket holders to vote and that will be our kit for that year. (One that definitely shouldn’t be on the list is the green and white hooped one from 1876!!).

We are always looking to add to our collection! If there are any you are looking to pass on, we would be willing to have a look to purchase or take on loan.

Give us a shout either on twitter (https://twitter.com/HibsTrust) or drop us an email. A few of us will be down at ER next week working on our collection if you'd like to pop down for a chat as well.

Out of interest what seasons are missing in the shirt collection ?

Hibs trust should do a donate Hibs items campaign to try get random
Hibs items from over the years - I guess the challenge is where to store / display them.

We recently took pictures of all our of shirts and are currently editing the images, so we can pull together a list.

Great idea! The Trust are meeting in a few weeks time so I will take your suggestion to the meeting.

Nice one - cheers for posting here and I hope my post didn't seem too critical - was really just more that I hadn't noticed too much about the trust before - will have a good look through your twitter. :aok:

Not at all! We haven’t been as active as we want to be recently as we are working on our archive and new website but hope to pick up soon.

I always like the idea of retro shirts but they rarely look good when they come to fruition.

Loved the original of that strip. Looks terrible in the Hanlon promo photo.

For those of us are of a certain vintage, that was one of the basic Umbro templates for kits and was widely used all around the UK. There were lots of others too but I don't think there been any of them that hasn't recognised the collar as being the focal point of the recreation.

This is poor.
