Yes, he was reckless, like refs need any help in giving decision against us at Ibrox it was a stupid tackle to make

Stonewaller.

'He played the ball' is about the biggest trope in football. It means nothing but because it is parroted by pundits again and again people believe there is some distinction regarding it in the rules.

McGinn may well get a slight toe on the ball but he clearly fouls the player to do that. I'm all for laughing at the penalty to Rangers stuff but that was a pen all day long.

Posted the same on the Nick Walsh thread. I have seen them given and also not given. Did he get enough of the ball etc. If this had been Boyler the pundits would be saying he went down too easily.

It was a penalty.

I'm not all that happy about Hibs' role in it. A player who had missed a few games through injury and who went off not long after makes a lunging challenge early on in the game against a dangerous opponent. It all felt a bit avoidable to me.

The first goal is significant in all games but there is an opportunity to get the hun hordes restless if they don't get it all their own way early on. I was actually in favour of the way Maloney approached the game and whilst the team looked a bit mad on paper, he was clearly moving to address the deficiencies shown in previous games.

We'll never know if it was going to work or not as it was out the window once we went the goal down.

You make challenges like that at Ibrox you know what the result will be, on the back foot after 5mins.

I was more annoyed at McGinn backing off and backing off before eventually tackling him in the box, criminal.

Dermot Gallagher has used the phrase" did he get enough of the ball" to justify decisions made by referees on his ref watch analysis on Sky.

Yeah it was deep down. You don t go to ibrox and make that challenge.

The question isn't "does he get the ball?" It's "does he get the ball first without endangering the opponents."

The answer from that grainy clip appears to be yes to both and no pen. The idea that you shouldn't make that challenge just because it's against Rangers is stupid.

Dermot Gallagher is a proven gob*****. Has he untied himself from the knot he got into trying to defend the referee's decision to keep Kane on the field when he nearly broke Robertson's leg ?

He spent about 20 minutes backing him off before deciding to actually make a challenge once he got in the box. Thought it was crap defending at the time and a stonewall penalty.

I think he messed up his challenge, expected to win the ball cleanly but IMO took ball and bit of man at same time. Of course no ref is ever going to get in trouble for awarding a pen to one of the uglies so it was an easy call. I am a bit confused though about the whole ball/man issue. I've seen a few top English games recently where defender has made a good challenge but caught man on follow through. Seems to be if it happens in box, no pen, if it's outside its a foul. Unless of course it's Ryan Porteous and then it's a red card for a foul throw!

Yep, let us down - no idea why he lunged in. Let us down V Hearts in the semi as well.

Thought the second clumsy Hibs challenge was more a penalty than the first one that was given.

He used the height off the ground of Kanes foot to say why the ref had not sent him off. He did say Kane was a lucky man.

Got the slightest of touches first, but brainless tackle to make and way past the low bar needed for refs to give the Huns a pen at Ibrox.

I know it’s a hard one to take seeing it was the currant buns, but it was a penalty.

As a matter of interest (probably only to me ) and I haven’t got a clue how to find out,but since Paul McGinn arrived at ER has he given away more penalties than any other player.

Obviously seeing Porteous previously gave away a penalty involving Kent nothing has been learned.Kent’s prime purpose when venturing into the box is to look for the slightest touch so he can go down and claim for a penalty.

Take note Hibs players “Every Days A Schoolday.

It couldn't be considered a foul anywhere on the pitch so can't be a penalty. If he hadn't won the ball it would be a different story.

We would NEVER have got that penalty. AND, Sportscene would have argued that the player got the ball first. Corrupt AF

Agreed. The laws of football are the same regardless if you’re playing at Ibrox, Easter Rd or East End Park.
