Arbroath - Away - Scottish Cup
Ross County - Home - League
Celtic - Home - League
Dundee - Away - League
St Johnstone - Home - League

Those are 5 absolutely massive games for us. Annoying Celtic is in the middle as it would have been nice to try and get a bit of momentum but going by our results that wouldn’t be a given anyway.

We really need to come out of those 5 with 9 points minimum and through to the next round of the cup.

If we don’t, we’re in serious trouble - especially since the teams are below us and wouldn’t be closing the gap.

Three winnable league games; we'll be lucky to take anything from Celtic. A very tricky cup tie, too. Massive fixtures for the team and the manager.

We absolutely must beat Arbroath and Ross County and take things from there.

4 points and cup can go either way.

We aren't going to shape a side to beat RC at home.

Sorry to be a downer but going on current form I'd wager there's more chance of us going goalless for those 4 league games than us taking 9 points from them.

5-0 win then 12 points in the league

I disagree, beat Dundee and St Johnstone and that would see us about safe rather than in serious trouble

When the draw was made I disagreed with the guys who were saying the Arbroath game was going to be a real test, thinking that in reality we would see them off if we stepped up to the plate. I’ve reconsidered. Our confidence is shot, we could very well see ourselves on the end of a bad result in the cup and where we go from there is anyone’s guess. A defeat at Gayfield would make the next four games a mountain to climb.

Doesn't bear thinking about. We need to grind out a few wins - any wins - at this stage. I don't care how we get them; negative, boring 1-0 wins are gladly welcome. This could quickly get embarrassing for Maloney otherwise. I'd hate to see a manager sacked just weeks into the job.

Arbroath (W)
Ross County (W)
Celtic (L)
Dundee (W)
St Johnstone (W)

Sitting nicely in 4th spot going into the Aberdeen, Dundee Utd and Hearts games before the split.

Love your confidence but we ain’t scoring goals so can’t see us winning all those games. If we can get away with 5 points I would be delighted.

We aren't at that level. Under Butcher every single players confidence looked shattered to do anything.

Tonight I seen individuals have the confidence to make things happen but weren't in any way part of a team.

I'd happily take any win over Arbroath and 6 points from those 4 games to steady the ship.

Hopefully not - Butcher was an idiot who gave a masterclass in mismanagement and undermining of many individuals in that team. Regardless of results so far SM seems many intelligence levels above what happened back then.

No idea how anybody thinks we’re winning any of these.
We can’t score goals.

Arbroath (D after 90 mins)
Ross County (D)
Celtic (L)
Dundee (D)
St Johnstone (L)

I think we will pick up 2 points & be about 6 points off the relegation places.

W W L W W. Simple. Celtic are too good but the rest of the league is much of a muchness. We'll neat Arbroath on the cup, I suspect it won't be pretty but we will win

Think we’ve won 4 out of the last 19 games …the likelihood of winning 4 out of 5 would be somewhere akin to a miracle

Arbroath - Win
Ross County - Win
Celtic - Loss
Dundee - Draw
St Johnstone - Win

The bare minimum. Worse is unacceptable.

Tbf, I'd expect 4 wins from that too. The bottom 3 and a part time side.

I fear that our midfield issues are going to keep going on until we can get everyone fit after the international break.

Unfortunately these 5 games all come before it, and after it there’s only 3 games before the split

Call me crazy but I've booked my accommodation and travel for the county game. Cost me £220 all in but can't wait to return to Easter Road.

Likely the only way we will make the top 6. Can’t see it at all. Two wins would be an improvement on the performances since the break .

Something has to give, we are playing well in spells and have had good and not so good periods against Rangers and Hearts in the last few games. It will click and we will start to fire. Maloney is a better man manager than Butcher, and has a better team at his disposal, there is no way we are getting dragged in to a relegation scrap.

:agree:

We were the better team against St Mirren and marginally better than Hearts. The expected goals per game (a stat which is widely accepted as being one of the best indicators of performance confirms this).

A horror mistake and numerous chances passed up against St Mirren and a goal line clearance with the last kick of the ball have went against us in these two. If we’d won then we’d be 4 clear in 4th and about 8 off 3rd.

We’ll be fine. We’re miles off 3rd now but we’ll be too 6 imo.

The only danger we’ll be in this season is dying from boredom, no way are Dundee and St J catching us.

As for 7 or 9 points, I just don’t see it. There’s not really been much to suggest we can pull off 2 or 3 wins from 5.

Honestly the way things are just now, I think Arbroath will be right in our faces and very tough, plus there scoring for fun hopefully we scrape through. As for the league games I honestly can't see us winning any and maybe if lucky get a couple of draws unless things click and we beat County 1st game get some confidence then I think we could maybe get 7points

Arbroath were never going to be anything other than up for it and in our faces they will be fancying this big time given the home tie and both teams current form.

The critical game is the Dundee one.

Win that and it’s highly unlikely they will overtake us and push us to the play off spot.

Be nice if we beat Arbroath, but not willing to bet on it.

It could be a bad day for football up there tomorrow!
A howling wind and bumpy pitch, we will have to concentrate for the full 90 mins!
An early goal from us will go a long way in helping our cause, 1-2 score line will do me!!!

I think we should just be concentrating on the next game thread.

Think they were up for it but couldn't get near us when we started playing. Game would have been totally different if they took one of their chances early in the second half. Was still 1-1 going into final 20 until Nisbet brilliant finish which turned the game.

Agree about Ibrox as well.

Saturday is huge. Motherwell playing Aberdeen and Hearts away to St Johnstone too so hopefully a few results can go our way and we can move back up the league.

Saturday is absolutely massive for us - it really is in the must win category as we are really in a slump in the league.

Hopefully yesterday's result can see us pick things up a bit.

Four out of the five games now played

Arbroath - 3-1 win
Ross County - 2-0 win
Celtic - 0-0 draw
Dundee - 0-0 draw

Through to the next round of the Scottish cup and 5 points from 3 games with us being undefeated.

5 goals scored and 1 conceded.

In isolation I think that looks not bad especially giving the current circumstances with injuries etc however I think the results against St Mirren and Livi are still fresh in peoples mind and with the fact we struggle to score/create.

St Johnstone is an absolute must win though, 3 points will give us a return of 8 out of 12 which would be decent imo, anything less and he will be criticised especially if we fail to score and create.

If we win on Saturday then it’ll have been a very decent 5 game run imo. Better Hibs teams than this would have been more than happy with runs like that.
