Hoping someone can advise on something.

Currently in the process of seperating from my wife and we have a young daughter. The home we own is in one of Edinburgh's nicer areas with very good school catchments. Unfortunately it doesn't appear either of us would be able to afford to buy the other out and afford a comparable home afterwards. We obviously don't want to impact our child's future.

Does anyone know if couples can legally divorce but keep joint ownership of a property, in this instance I'd stay with a relative but continue to pay towards bills for the family home.

Best advice is speak to a divorce solicitor and professional advice. Failing that Citizens advice can connect you to free legal advice from a solicitor.

A good solicitor is a must whatever happens. Even if it’s just a separation rather than divorce. Believe me I know to my cost.

I've a friend who thought she had an amicable separation, she wasn't to bothered about the area where their house was so moved away to make it easier for work etc, her understanding was hubby was thinking along similar lines... he ended up living in the house with a new partner... his wife ended up not getting anything near half the value of their combined assets.

Sorry to hear that mate.

I think the “good” school stuff is a bit of a misnomer - if your kid sticks in they’ll be fine, in fact if they’re at a school that’s further down the league table you might find they get more attention. Also the league tables really just reflect who’s best at cooking the books on attendance and suspensions etc.

Disagree 100%, However hope the OP gets sorted, get a good solicitor and get everything agreed in writing
