Anyone replaced their older Storage Heaters with Electric heating?

If so what did you replace it with and was it any good?

TIA

I replaced storage heaters that were first installed over 30 years ago with electric underfloor heating. each room is seperately controlled with a thermostat and timer. Laminate flooring or ceramic floor tiles on top, cosy toes. :greengrin

We’re currently renovating our house we just bought and are planning on putting in these electric radiators - https://www.electricradiatorsdirect.co.uk/haverland-smart-wave-electric-radiators-white/

My partner’s done a fair bit of research and thought these were the best for our requirements.

I think a disadvantage of any radiator that is mounted to the wall, regardless of heating method, is they are affected by furniture, doors, windows etc. Put furniture in front of a radiator and all you are doing is heating the furniture. Often radiators are positioned under windows, and the heat goes behind the curtains!

Can't remember the name but I got it from Topps Tiles, comes as a sheet and is easy to do. Fiddly bit is the wiring for the thermostat and control.

Yep, easy enough but you need to be a weight lifter. Remove all the bricks before trying to lift it.

With the cost of gas going up and very unlikely to ever be reduced, I guess that electric heating is going to become more cost efficient than it was before. Scotland should be self sufficient in electricity, with all the renewables.

Aye i heard that can be a pain, i take it the newer ones are easy enough to put in, im pretty comfortable with general DIY but when it comes to electrics a wee bit wary of trickier jobs

The storage heaters should be on their own circuit, switch off trip switch and if you can wire a plug you can wire the heating to the fused outlet.

What you need to watch is that they could be white meter heating & programmed to come come on at off peak times

If you have storage heaters that's almost a given, don't attempt to change them during the night. :greengrin

Switching the circuit breaker of will prevent the current getting through regardless of the timer.
