Newell is one of the few players we really can’t replace, no one else offers what he does in our squad whilst Magennis remains sidelined, we really need him to remain fit.

He’d be a big loss. Great performance on Tuesday.

Noticed him giving a so-so sign to someone in the main stand as he came off from the players lap at the end of the game the other night.

He gave an improved performance on Tuesday and it was disappointing when he had to come off.
My bug bear with him is he is a non scoring midfielder and hardly ever has a shot at goal.
JDH is even worse in this respect.
We're getting no goals from midfield and now Boyle is away I just can't see where they're going to come from.

Nisbet? Doidge? Cadden? Mitchell?

If Newell played like Tuesday, he could never score again for all I care. Quality player.

Which player's lap was he on? He needs to practice his moves if he only got a so-so rating from Newell. 😀

With all these quality players by you're reckoning I'm amazed we trail our city neighbours by 12 points.
An average Hearts team in my opinion.

Who, Doidge and Newell? 2 players who are quite clearly quality at this level, and have proved it over a while now.

Yes, it is an average Hearts team. Sadly we made a mess in the summer or we'd be right there with them.

Is all you do put Hibs and Hibs players down?

Hearts are only in 3rd cause it’s a poor standard of league this season. Also Kilmarnock are in the Championship. 🤠

I certainly don't mean to do that but feel I'm being realistic.
I am critical but having seen some good Hibs teams over the years it's hard to enthuse about the current crop.
We're all desperate to see out team do well but to describe Doidge as a quality player is a vast exaggeration.
Opinions eh!

You're down on Doidge because of his average performance on Tuesday. Guy has proven he is an excellent player in his 2 previous years here.

I've liked Newell for some time, particularly when they moved him away from the wing where he'd played most of his senior career, but don't rate him nearly as high as you obviously do. Doig has been at best ordinary since he came back, but there's still time for him to pick up. He's there to score goals, and he hasn't been scoring them, so it'll be interesting to see how many more games it takes him to get up to speed. Just because you overrate players doesn't mean that people who disagree with you are putting the player or the club down.

All our strikers are out of form or not fully fit at the moment. It’s a tough moment. But I reckon Doidge Nisbet and Mueller can play together and score goals.

There have been some real misery guts on here over the years. You are right in the very top bracket.

Don't think so assume the sort of muscular injury it looked likely to be a few weeks.

There was a really good move in the first half that resulted in a wee flick from Doidge to Mueller who almost finished it. It would be great if they start playing like that regularly.

Shame. Injuries were bound to happen which makes the decision not to bolster the centre of midfield a mistake, particularly as we also shipped out the obvious cover in Hallberg and Gogic.

Clarke, Newell and Magennis out for weeks is extremely frustrating. Hopefully we can pick up results before the split then have them back raring to go.

Phil Johnson is a jambo, not as bad as some in the evening news or Scotsman but is one all the same.

Madness really.

If JDH or Campbell get injured or suspended who would actually play centre midfield ?

The match preview on official Hibs Twitter isn`t ruling Newell out just yet. Only Kyle Magennis and Harry Clarke are confirmed as unavailable. Paul Hanlon and Joe Newell to be assessed ahead of the game on Wednesday.

What do you both not get? Hallberg wanted away for more games, wasn't prepared to sit on the bench. Gogic not good enough and how do you know we didn't try and sign someone? Sometimes it's just not possible as even Newcastle with all their money found out with the French striker they went for.

Folk are just looking to beat Maloney because he's an easy target, young, inexperienced and had a uncertain start. Give him a chance FFS, maybe if we still had Boyle we'd have scored a couple and won these games. Fine margins.

I think you’re maybe reading too much into the above posts.

Like you, I’m sick of the moaning about Maloney and the needless digs. However, if an injury to Joe Newell is going to be significantly damaging to our season then I think it’s a fair point to raise. It doesn’t mean they’re looking to have a go at an easy target.

Genuinely baffling we didn't sign a centre mid after letting Gogic and Hallberg leave.

It is a bit odd as well as allowing Tait to go on loan

On the surface, yes, it does seem a bit odd. I think on the other hand it’s true to say that loanees can be called back quickly if needed. Meanwhile the loanees are probably getting some valuable game time, experience and maintaining match fitness.

We cannot recall tait. He's played for 2 clubs this season and we couldn't register him outside of the registration window anyway. Same for all loanees.
