Just watching the highlights and Porto I think could well be onside (poor angle) before a hearts player scores an own goal. Not once mentioned on the radio after the game last night. Anyone else have an opinion on it ?

I think you could be right, but they should really have had a penalty so they probably cancel each other out.

Hibs having a perfectly good goal disallowed in the derby isnt really news worthy any more, it happens so often

Neilson mentioned the penalty decisions as massive, game changing mistakes by the Ref, but apparently felt the Referee was completely right to chalk off our goal.

Flick on sky sports in about an hour and they’ll be reviewing the incidents - kick off coming up just now. Going to have the game on in background - beauty of working from home

Porto is the farthest Hibs player. Very tight, perhaps just off though?

Whatever happened to tight decisions for offside being in the favour of the attacking player? Or am I just making that up?

Long gone.
I don’t agree with it, but anyone thinking this is a blatant error by the ref is clutching at straws.
Both Hearts penalty claims were valid though.

Porto, who headed the ball, was offside imo. The Hertz penalties were never penalties - reason = just coz

It's also possible that he thought Porto's header went in off an (offside) Hibs player rather than the defender.

The difference is the media is all over their 2 'pens'. Hardly a mention of our goal and no discussion of the potential leg breaker assault from Devlin. A far, far worse challenge than the one for which Porto received a red card at Ibrox.

Regret to say I now agree, and if you freeze-frame the replay just after the free kick is struck, Porto's movement, and the pedestrian reaction of the Hertz defenders, puts him a clear yard offside. That is the view (unobstructed) that the linesman has had. I think Doidge is marginally off too.

Plus the handball that diverted Rocky's header over the bar.
Not great quality screen grab but it definitely hits the arm and was on target.

If the linesman is on this nearside his view of Porto is blocked by the Hibs player in the Centre of the D. He can’t see If Porto is off.
love to know if the flag went up instantly or only when the ball landed in the net

It’s no really well offside if Porto is top of the picture and look at Simms, marginal lf at all 😂

We will struggle to score from corners with only five players in the box
Hearts have every player in their box if I counted right.
Get some more bodies in there hibs.

Not a great angle. I was right behind the linesman at the game and when the ball was played I thought Porto was level with player in the middle. Nisbet and Doidge were standing in an offside position and then became active in the next phase of play.Offside rule is a bit of a dogs breakfast. I think the linesman flag went up when he was in line with penalty spot.

Berra’s rule is far more bizarre than that actually! Seeing as Porteous used his head I think Christophe would deem him offside, or is that just if he scores with his head?… you’d have to check with the big man 😂

Think you are confusing the ball for a piece of paper from the display. The ball is just being kicked in the photo. He is just off going by the 18 yard line. Tight call though that could have went for us on another day.

The same thing players do all the time, stand offside and either trick the opposition into sitting deeper or waiting til they all start running, happens in every single game of football

Looks just offside to me though with VAR there's always a chance that a defender's trailing leg/foot ( see player next to Porto) may play them on. One thing is certain, the linesman flagged for Doidge, not Porto! ( Incidentally Craig Gordon didn't realise it was off!)

From the screenshot I think Porto is bang on. Its difficult to picture the line because perspective makes the farside of the cut of the grass look narrower than nearside.
The official would have had to guess, and the attacker is supposed to get the benefit of the doubt.

I suspect like loads of people I was thinking Porteous was the player in the middle, but if he’s the guy on the far side then I think he’s onside. I’ve not seen it back on tv yet, but from that picture I’m going to change my mind and say he’s onside.

Also to put off defenders when running back. Intention would be for him to get in the way of defenders in Doidges area possibly giving him an easier header centrally.
