View Full Version : How much of the Martin Boyle money will we actually spend?

A tenth of it? A twentieth maybe?

Strikes me the new recruitment "model" if we have one, is to buy younger players for next to nowt and then either load up this new B team and hope that one/two come good and we sell them on, or alternatively buy a promising player and then immediately loan them out to give them games, basically an admission that they're not ready for the first team at the point of signing.

It's low risk, but more importantly cheap, much in the same way the previous Board operated when the bean counter was at the helm - sold Kevin Thomson and then signed Paddy Cregg, sold Scott Brown, bought Joe Keenan, etc.

We hardly ever buy a straight-in the team, recognisable first pick player that the fans can immediately get enthused about.

We're currently crying out for (and were before Boyle was sold) an imposing goalkeeper, a dynamic no 10 that can carry the ball forward and link play, and a centre forward that can take the ball in and bring the team up the park.

The common thread with these types of players?

They cost £££, and in my book if Kensall and Gordon want to get the fans onside again we need to see a bit ambition in the next 2 days, else it's going to be a "difficult" next 6 months and beyond.

Depends how much Maloney and Caldwell's severance is.

Melkerson was not signed for 'next to nowt'. We also just bought Mitchell to go straight into the team.

How much does a ‘first 11’ player, under contract elsewhere, cost to buy?

Half a million? A million? Plus signing on fee, agents fee and however much a week.

Three million is a decent sum by any measure, but in terms of using that cash to make a splash on the squad, it’s probably… not? It’s maybe 2 players at the most if spending even modest fees across the life of their contracts.

Also, finding gems and young guys with potential is how we get good players. Boyle was hardly a heralded arrival when he pitched up from Dundee, after all. We can’t afford to go out and buy someone just as good, sadly.

£0. What we will probably do is wait till summer, sell another one of our 'assets' and maybe spend around 500k. So technically won't be spending the Boyle money. Easter road was buzzing after we won the cup, lennon had us playing great stuff, beating that Greek mob in Europe etc easter road was the place to be. Such a shame weve let it slip like this. Horrible atmosphere round the place just now.
Remember everyone singing one Leeann dempster, here we go 10 in a row in the derby, laughing at them, was magic.

I wouldn't give a penny of it to our current recruitment team and Ian Gordon.

All these guys are imposters.

100%...seems that everyone who has left our club in the last year has been replaced by someone vastly inferior.
