I agree. I often feel his contribution is overlooked. As soon as he gets into a 1 on 1 situation our attacking players and midfielder’s should be bursting a gut to get into the channel between the goalkeeper and the opposition defenders. Time and again he delivers fantastic balls in that only require a touch for a goal.

I’m not sure he was meant to play for as long as he did but stayed on because he’d been a threat. He was done after an hour or so but I thought he showed enough in the first half to suggest their could be a player there. One of the few players who actually wanted to do things quickly. Hopefully we don’t train that out of him like we seem to have done with the rest of them.

Yes it was only Cove but he had some flashes of real quality in the first 60 mins before he seemed to tire.

The Fyvie foot race comparison is a bit harsh I think...Fyvie had a head start and Mueller had started to understandably flag by then.

I dont think he has pace over distance but he def has explosive pace over 5-10 yards which, aligned to his obvious technical ability, will hopefully see him do well.

He's a wide right attacking player so it's natural that he will be compared to Boyle. It doesn't need to be seen as a negative, Boyle was one of our best players in years.

It does add pressure to Mueller but professional football is a high pressured environment and something the top players have to learn to cope with and thrive on.

Let's hope Mueller turns out to be one of those top players.

:agree: what I really liked was he was always looking for the ball (particularly end of first half, start of second half), he was coming deep to try and influence a static midfield, manager might not like that but shows great enthusiasm and belief in his own abilities and easier to add discipline to his game than belief.

For me he could make such a difference to the formation and way we want to play, as could Magennis if he is played centre mid or behind the striker with mueller.

Remember when we played 4231/451 and everyone hated it and said it didn’t work etc etc.

Magennis then got fit and played behind the striker and he made a massive difference. He pressed and won the ball back but he most importantly got beyond the striker and got in the box, he would drift wide, shoot, he would come to feet in a gap and offer.

You need players willing to do both in the position behind the striker and I think mueller and Magennis could offer that. Ideally I’d like Magennis one deeper but I’m not sure if he’d be as effective there, I think he has the attributes for sure but you never know.

I’d still like to see one more wow signing to play behind the striker. A Zemmama type who can light a game up. I’ve said it before but Barrie McKay would be perfect for this formation and set up, we won’t get him so I think someone like McGrath or Danny Mantroiu should be top targets.
