I saw something earlier about Shay Logan starting his own plumbing business…. What are other former footballers up to post playing? Any left field career changes away from the norm of media, coaching or management?

Back in the day...

At least half The Tornadoes ran pubs when career finished.
Not uncommon back then.
Breweries would trip over each other to get popular players to manage or lease a pub of theirs, ideally near the ground.
Scottish Brewers in the East. Tennents Brewery in the West.

Jimmy O'Rourke's first pub was the Corstorphine Inn. 10yr lease.
Changed the old pub beyond recognition and made it more popular.
Shades,Crops, Pat and Eddie Turnbull all had pubs on or near Easter Road.
Mickey Edwards did sales for a drinks company

Alan Gordon had a Masters Degree in Economics.
And since Eddie once told him "all his brains were in his head" Alan returned to Accountancy !!

Many ex players have became taxi drivers. Alex Cropley and Gordon Hunter amongst others. A couple of years back I was amazed when an 'old' guy turned up at my work to pick up my bosses Volvo car for a service to find out it was the one and only Pat Stanton. Spent about an hour with us when he came back with the car to chat about the game. Not just Hibs fans as well. Hearts and the old Rangers fans. Top bloke just wanted to talk about football.

I lived in Iona Street from 1984-7 and Alex Cropley kept the bar next door. It was called Cropley’s back then.

I may be wrong, but I think he bought the franchise as opposed to being manager - it was the one on the way to Aberdeen on the A90, IIRC?

Forfar and Arbroath franchise owner. He isn’t any longer.

I worked for him when I was a student. One night at a staff night out he stupidly said there was a free bar on him for an hour. We made the most of that and then some!

He was on duty at East End Park in front of the away end for a Hibs game once a few years after he retired.

If I were a footballer I'd live on 2k a month max and keep the rest in an ISA/investment account. If you have a semi-decent career then the savings will be enough to live on for life even if you retire in your mid 30s.

I imagine there's a fair few doing that right now.

When I gave up football I continued with my drink problem which I could barely afford from my wages as a Joiner Although I had the same problems while playing at a poor amateur level so no real change
