Music means a lot to me.ive got 2 lyrics that mean the world to me.help me through dark times
1 - The Brian Jonestown massacre - what you isnt...
You got to wake up and be a man and make a plan....you're gonna win it
2 - oasis - supersonic
I need to be myself,I can't be no one else

Any others you'd pick that mean something to you ?

I know it’s a cover, I prefer the version of The Sound Of Silence by Disturbed

the lyric that resonates with me is:

“Hear my words that I might teach you,
take my arms that I might reach you”

I was born on the back streets
On the rotten side of town
I never had me nothin'
Just people puttin' me down
Living on the dark side
Across the railroad track
Leaving wasn't easy
But I'm never going back

You can do it put your back into it,
I can do it put your ass into it…

Now what's the good of two strong legs
If you only run away?
And what use is the finest voice
If you've nothing good to say?
And what good is strength and muscle
If you only push and shove?
And what's the use of two good ears
If you can't hear those you love?
Between those who use their neighbours
And those who use a cane
Between those in constant power
And those in constant pain
Between those who run to evil
And those who cannot run
Tell me which ones are the cripples
And which ones touch the sun?

I love that song, was melted when I heard it played live.

It's not just what you're born with
It's what you choose to bear
It's not how big your share is
It's how much you can share
It's not the fights you dreamed of
It's those you really fought {ah-wah}
It's not what you've been given
It's what you do with what you've got

Not really inspiring but memorable from Bowie’s track Five Years.

“A cop knelt and kissed the feet of a priest and a queer threw up at the sight of that”

The Mississippi delta was shining like a national guitar....... sheer poetry.

The Mississippi delta was shining like a national guitar....... sheer poetry.
I walk in Holyrood Park quite often, and when I reach the crest of the hill on a sunny day and see Edinburgh below, shining in the sun, this lyric often comes to mind. I have no idea what it means, but it certainly resonates.

ETA: I looked it up, and it seems that he's talking about a type of guitar, called a National guitar. They make metal bodied guitars, like the one on the cover of Brothers In Arms. Hence, "shining".

Also ETA: other lines in that same song are also worthy of note:

And I see losing love
Is like a window in your heart
Well, everybody sees you're blown apart
Everybody feels the wind blow

Whilst it's a great line, the cynic in me wonders who he stole it from.😁

I'm currently reading 2 books about musicians, both of which are very critical of his "opportunism".

Two lovers missing the tranquility of solitude.

Always thought that was a beautifully written lyric from That’s Enrertainment.

Good explanation. I never thought of that. I always thought that Paul Simon was comparing the splayed out shapes of the river delta with the splayed out strings of the head of a guitar.

Agree, should have made the final cut for SOTSOG instead of tracks like Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is and Who Feels Love.

That's part of what made oasis so good, there are countless B sides that are better than the album tracks, Noel knew exactly what he was up to in that regard

Acquiesce (should have been on Morning Glory in place of She's electric)
Stay young

Many, many more as well.

Not the lyrics as a such but the song as a whole. Hazel O'connor - Will You. Unbelievable song and doesn't get enough air play. I'll need to watch the film Breaking Glass again with her in it.

I like my music but, what is music inspiring you to do? I'm not getting it. 🤔

Wouldn't say any lyrics have inspired me (there used to be a general lyrics thread on here but I couldn't find it) but this is genius and a gorgeous tune, complete with a wee bit of Waterloo Sunset at the end of the last verse.

Famous Tracheotomies by Okkervil River
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SG3YIoW_2zs

When I had my tracheotomy
I was blue and had stopped breathing
There was something wrong with me
Doctors cut through the cartilage and skin
At the bottom of my throat
And then they snaked that trach tube in
And I was one and a half
I was my parents only kid
And they had lost two before that
And growing up, I always knew how close I'd come
Well, that must have been scary, Mom

Gary Coleman, he was "Arnold" on TV
Well, I grew up watching him and Conrad Bain and Kimberly
It turns out that he had a trach scar too
Where they cut into his throat
And then they threaded that tube through
But that was much later on
In the year that he turned forty when his fanbase was all gone
And his health was so touch-and-go
His girlfriend proposed
But they broke up on a TV show

Mary Wells, she was known as Motown's Queen
But laryngeal cancer left her unable to sing
They tried radiation, multiple surgeries
But she didn't have insurance and lost almost everything
Poor thing
But Diana Ross helped with her bills
Aretha Franklin tried her very best to help out Mary Wells
And Dionne Warwick did all she could do
And Mary Wells, she pulled through
For one more year or two

Dylan Thomas looked completely pale and weak
On a trip to New York City to promote his poetry
Three straight days of drinking out in Greenwich and Chelsea
He was taken to the hospital, turned blue and not breathing
And Caitlin Thomas said
When she walked into St Vincent's
Is the bloody man dead yet?
And later that day she got so drunk she was restrained
And her husband slipped away

Ray Davies had a tracheotomy
He was at St. Thomas' Hospital in London, aged thirteen
And during his long recovery
Nurses put him in a wheelchair
And they'd wheel him out onto a balcony (on a balcony)
And down that evening sun did sink
Painting London and the river and that freaked-out future Kink
Waterloo lit up for one sick kid
And, at 23, he recorded a song about it

Old lyrics, but relevant today:

A curse upon you men of war with gun or pen in hand
Your power sought or won or bought
Your castles made of sand
You always have "good reason" to take more than you need
Your hearts are filled with hatred and your minds are filled with greed

Bring 'em down.
