From a football point it probably really suits us with Maloney just coming in

It was inevitable. Can't believe anyone seriously thought they'd go ahead next week behind closed doors.

Given the good news about Omicron that came out today, I think there's every chance we will see a full house for the derby.

Kicking the can down the road. It'll be minimal supporters allowed in 3 weeks as well

Sir David Gray

Games on Boxing Day still being played behind closed doors which means only half the clubs are going to be inconvenienced.

Obviously glad the derby's being given a chance of a full capacity but can't really understand that.

As someone mentioned previously, its good news for us .. Give Maloney time to assess before the derby , i was slightly concerned about the amount of games we have played in December, derby was going to be a tough ask.

if we can string a few wins together, strengthen the squad in January, thrash hearts on feb 1st, develop a definitive style…

a lot of ifs but a buzz will start to build around the club again and people will get excited.

ticket prices need a re-think

Aye. It was like a league cup group stage game, I’ve never seen it that empty for a league game. Hopefully with Christmas out of the equation the crowds will rise after the break.

Hopefully Mueller will be able to fit in some way to replace that pace of Boyle that would be sorely missed.

I’d like to think Hibs have got a decent relationship with Australia. Surely we could weigh up what’s more important, an Edinburgh derby or a game with ****ing Oman and come to an agreement. You’ve got to think surely Boyler would rather be here for the derby too.

He said in an interview last week he wants to play for Australia in their up coming games.

Internationals fixtures are clearly really important to him, I respect that. IMO if you’re selected to play for your country, you don’t pick and choose what ones.

That’s not my understanding.

It’s an official FIFA ‘international week’ in some confederations, including Asia, but NOT Europe.

My understanding is that because it’s NOT in Europe, players from European clubs cannot be mandated, even if selected.

Ultimately Hibs are Martin's employer and pay him a very good wage to play for Hibs. Club should be taking priority over country in this instance IMO.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter how important the game is to us, if the Aussies insist he will be there

I'm not sure what the rule is but if Boyle tells Hibs he wants to go then it makes it very difficult for us to refuse.

I'm now starting to doubt what I believe was the case and that we wouldn't have to release him

I've scoured FIFA regulations best I can but I can;t find anything specific that deals with a transfer window called in the Asia confederation, but the player playing in Europe and Europe NOT being in a transfer window.

On the basis of that I'm prepared to say I was wrong, and we will have to release him.

As I said in a previous post I am sure Martin Boyle would have inserted a clause in the new contract that he signed that he would be released to play in all Australia games.

He's here!

If tonight's home crowd is anything to go by, nobody will care that much by the time we come back.

A tad harsh. The midweek between a (losing) cup final and Christmas Day, a miserable cold, wet night and dire warnings from the Scottish government about the dangers of attending. Not surprised the crowd wasn't great, although judging from TV the atmosphere was nevertheless pretty decent. Good away support, although in my experience there are a lot of Edinburgh-based Aberdeen fans.

So the good news is that I’ve been able to move my trains for the derby free of charge. The bad news is that it leaves Bolton 13 hours before kick off. Even TPE can’t cock up a 10 hour head start, can they? 🙃

hibbysam
23-12-2021, 08:49 AM
We best hope Boyle isn’t away. Positives obviously allows us the window and more time with the squad for Maloney, plus Mueller being up to speed. We need Martin in the team though, three assists in his last three games.

Tyler Durden
23-12-2021, 08:58 AM
Maybe there is a chance we can agree that Boyle plays the first game for Australia and then returns for the derby. Still wouldn't be ideal of course in terms of all the travelling.

Can't see it happening though, as they need to win both games and they hold the cards here.

Go across to York or Leeds and travel up the East Coast instead if the times don't suit.

I’m restricted to TPE as that was who my original ticket for 03/01 was through. If they cancel then they will be accepted on Avanti services via Preston so should be fine.

Yes exactly. Aberdeen always get good crowds in Edinburgh and Glasgow for that reason.

Drives me mad when commentators praise them for making the long journey to support their team - 75% of the Aberdeen fans last night probably travelled less than 10 miles to get to Easter Road.
