View Full Version : Parking issue at Bethlehem Way / Sapphire Point

Just a heads up - I've parked at Bethlehem Way before matches for the last few seasons but came back on Tuesday night to find what felt like a mix of vegetable oil / ketchup on my car door handles.
It was a nightmare to get rid of and if we hadn't had wet wipes in the car it would have been a real mess.
Not sure what was behind it but one or two other cars seem to have been done as well. Not sure what was behind it but think I'll be parking elsewhere for the Aberdeen game.

If people choose to live near to a football stadium then they need to live with the fact people will park in their street imo. I stay next to the stadium and I need to move my car every week as its parked where they put no parking cones. My last flat was in Stewart Terrace and it was almost impossible yo get parked if Hearts were at home

I think we can all guess what’s behind it. Residents don’t want you parking there.
It looks like their unusual tactics have won and now the word is out I think supporters might think twice about parking in a residential area.
I don’t condone this type of behaviour but it must be a nightmare if you live in such a place and you can’t get your car parked because there’s a football match on.

It's a private car park and a street that looks too narrow to safely park on. Looks like the residents have a point?

Some people will own their parking space so you are effectively parking in their driveway. Find another space and don't be so selfish. No sympathy from me.

You’re parking your car in a private car park, you’re lucky that’s all that happened. How would you like it if you paid a large sum of money for a house with a parking space outside and someone came along and parked in it every time a game was on? When did people become so selfish and ignorant

I wouldn't park there but that road has lines down the middle and has almost certainly been adopted by the council. I'd say there is parking for two or three cars safely and any road user has the right to park there as much as residents. The spaces at the other end may be a different story but I can't see an issue with parking on the road.

There’s a sign as you drive in telling you that’s it’s private property and there’s no parking.
I've recently moved to a small estate close to the stadium, its a private road, clearly marked with parking bays for houses that don't have a garage/driveway.
I have to say I'm quite disappointed but by no means surprised about the selfishness of people parking on match days. In no particular order, parking on the pavement so that folk in wheelchairs or with buggies have to use the road, parking in or blocking private parking bays, parking on grass verges, various instances of parking in places that is dangerous for other road users.
I'm not surprised residents in other areas seem to be less forgiving than they appear to be here but in the couple of months I've been here it's already been mentioned on the private Facebook group and some are rightly upset.

Maybe that had been tried, have seen people look at notes on windscreens and crumple them up and throw them on the ground. I had a flat with a parking space near to the ground a number of years ago and tried that approach. The actions have had the desired effect he won't park there again.

Only able to do that if you own that space. Some blocks of flats will have a space for each flat but not designated.

Apparently there actually is - it was named by the Reverend Ewen Aitken, a Councillor in the local area, and Bethlehem is said to mean "House of Bread" in Hebrew!

We have private offroad parking and we apply for a resident parking permit which is displayed, it's patrolled by a private parking company, unfortunately private parking tickets are not worth the paper they're written on due to Scottish law but it should still deter the majority.
Maybe the residents can come out during games and tell people to get lost but why should they.

No matter how many signs you put up from past experience people will ignore them. Went along the clamping route a number of years ago but were told we could not do it. People like the OP should read the signs and obey them they are there for a reason. Have noticed near Murrayfield barriers put up and security manning the barriers on some the areas with flats. At least the OP has now got the message.

The whole estate is private property, it is owned by the residents, if there’s any damage it’s the residents who have to pay, the roads belong to the residents and they all have to pay for a factoring company for the upkeep. I don’t know where you’re getting the idea that some of it is fair game for anyone to park from.

I’m not condoning vandalism. You’ve said you’ve parked in Bethlehem Way but you wouldn’t want someone parking in your drive, if you live in one of these estates it’s the same thing. I used to live in an estate near Easter Road and sometimes if I was working on a Saturday I’d come home and not have anywhere to park. I wanted to park my car in my space so I could go to the game, but I couldn’t because some other fan had parked there. I ended up parking right behind the guy so he couldn’t get out, he spent 20 minutes beeping his horn before calling the police, they came and told him there’s nothing they could do. I waited until he’d gone for the bus or whatever and I moved my car, he never parked there again.

I did, to be fair it was fairly empty back then (into the left through the back), but spoke to residents back then and nobody batted an eyelid. Times change and out of towners come in as is there right and demand their space is their space. Just wouldn’t vandalise property, I’d just piss someone off that did it to the point they wouldn’t again. Like you said you did.

Not all adopted though - that description only seems to cover the entrance to the development. Seems to me the best thing that could be done would be for double yellow lines to be painted at the entrance, although I know from experience that it can literally take years for the Clowncil to go through the relevant procedures for that to occur. It does strike me that you’d struggle to get an ambulance or fire engine through the build up of cars at that bit of Lochend Road / Bethlehem Way on match days.

15 by the looks of it. The 11 that faces you as you enter and the 2 x 2 spaces to the left and right. As soon as you go over the paths at either side (under the building on the left and over the path on the right) then it’s private.

There's always spaces to find within a 10-15 min walk to the stadium. No real need to park within areas that are designated permit holders or double yellow. In 25+ years never had a problem finding a parking space.

Something I've never understood is people living near ER who take their car out in the 20 minutes before or after a match. Surely even if you cant stand football youd have the fixtures on your kitchen wall so you could try and plan around the matches.
Always seems to be cars pushing against the crowds on the way to games.

Its not always through choice. My Daughter lives in Hawkhill Close and is a nurse. She has no option but to leave around 7/7.15 on a night game due to her shift pattern.

Double yellows are definitely required. When folk park on the entrance road they make it impossible for emergency vehicle to access the development.
