View Full Version : NHC - Nations League draw

The nations league draw is today at 5pm. Another big one for us as winning the group gives us a big shot at EURO 2024 in Germany and would also help us keep climbing the word rankings which will eventually lead to us being 2nd seeds at qualification competitions.

For Scotland the draw looks like

League B

Pot 1: Ukraine, Sweden, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iceland
Pot 2: Finland, Norway, Scotland, Russia
Pot 3: Israel, Romania, Serbia, Republic of Ireland
Pot 4: Slovenia, Montenegro, Albania, Armenia

For me Bosnia or Iceland, Romania and Montenegro would do nicely.

Looking to avoid Sweden, Israel and Serbia.

I went to Düsseldorf in 2014 for a Scotland Germany and would love the opportunity to head over there for the group stages.

You won’t get odds on us drawing Israel.

Only the world cup seedings are determined by world rankings - the Euros qualifying seedings are determined directly from the nations league placings - making it doubly important we win our group.

If we do, we will both be second seeds in the group as well as having the potential of a play off I think.

Iceland, Ireland, Armenia please.

Yep we’d be guaranteed a playoff with a group win. 2nd place would probably get you a playoff as well, however no reason why we can’t win it no matter who we get in this draw

That was a class day. I was in the German end with plenty of other Scots. The place went mental when Anya scored that opener.

Same! We were right where Anya scored!

A German guy shook my hand and congratulated us when we scored. We deserved something from that game

I was there in 2014 - last game with my two brothers together. Was a great trip - we got to the game on a wagon train of a tractor with several carriages behind from Bochum to Dusseldorf leaving some time in the morning and arriving early evening, with beer and singing all the way, with a bunch of Bochum, Dusseldorf and Witten fans.

Would recommend it for a trip though the hangover was something special.

For us it’s an extra way to qualify for the Euros, obviously England are unlikely to need that route.

If we win the group then, if UEFA use the same system as they did for Euro 2020, we'd be second seeds in the 2024 draw. And the top two in qualifying automatically qualify. So I'm led to believe from a podcast I listened to this morning.

Well..well...well...

Ireland V Scotland will be two great games. They can go either way.

Scotland have been much better than us for a while but the Irish team is starting to come together.

Poor start under Kenny but that had more to do with him bringing in a lot of u21's and implementing a new style. We no longer play boring long ball. It's taken time but we're finally starting to play good football and finished the campaign well.

Hopefully Ireland and Scotland finish 1st and 2nd, with Ireland first of course:wink:

I just assumed it would be the same as the Euro 2020 qualification.

Doubly important that we win this. Potential back door to qualification. We become a pot 2 team for the Euro qualifiers and we promote ourselves into group B for the next round of Nations League games.

The reason it's not been confirmed is that there are only 3 spare spaces this time, not 4. It's likely that league D won't get a slot this time, as that league is now much smaller, following reorganisation, however they are yet to confirm, as I think a few people are upset.

To answer my own question, there are 6480 people with 9 points or more so it depends how many tickets we get I guess.

I have to agree here. "Easy" groups in most recent tournaments have not helped England's preparations for the tournament proper. Qualifying easily is better than not qualifying at all but I reckon it leaves you unprepared to face the bigger teams. I get the rationale behind seeding but skooshing a group IMO does you no favours.

I agree they are starting to come together but its from a very low bar. I like what Kennys trying to do & it's impressive it looks like he's going to get the time to do it. I'd fancy Scotland in both games on current form. Hopefully if we manage to qualify Ireland do to....Just below us though so I can strut around the village for a bit
