View Full Version : Cup Final Decision

Can we please not have another debate about what's right or wrong here, there's a thread with that roaring on nicely already. Everyone has their own opinion and own reasons for making a decision and is completely entitled to keeping it as far as I'm concerned given that we're being asked to make our own decisions.
I'm with a group of 6, one has tested positive so can't go, two have pre-existing conditions so are now probably not going, the other three are on the fence but probably a no.
Just interested to know the split in terms of everyone's thinking ahead of Sunday. Also genuinely interested if people might want to pick up tickets from those that are making the decision to not go. In which case we could maybe set up a way to sort that out and avoid gaps in the crowd.

I'm over weight, asthmatic and pushing 50....
But I'm also fully vaxxed - too right I'm going to the game.
I'll put my faith in medical science and my hope in the hibees well before I'll take note of the lying political/media types.

As it stands my group of four are still going but we will be traveling by car and have cancelled plans for pre-match drinks. Arrive early, avoid the crowds and try and avoid cuddling people we don’t know when we score. Probably hang back at the end to avoid the crush on leaving.
There will be a further family discussion tomorrow or Friday though

Can't go due to isolating with another two family members who also have tickets. However, even if I could go the risks of having to further isolate over Christmas or bringing this very contagious variant home to vulnerable family members would probably have stopped me anyway. It's soooo frustrating and gutting. Another good decision from the SPFL, holing a national cup final 6 days before Christmas during a global pandemic. Genius.

Recovering from a stem cell transplant, heavily immune suppressed but no way I'm missing the Hibs in a cup final.

Thanks mate. I honestly felt after 2016 I could retire as a football fan because I'd never feel elation to the same extent again.
After the past 3 or 4 of years of battling Leukemia I think a cup win on Sunday would perhaps be a match for 2016.

To be honest Celtic’s injury worries, and how they effect our chances of winning the Cup, come a distant second in my order of priorities to being able to spend Christmas with family. If that makes me a part time supporter, then so be it - family over football for me.

Common sense needs to prevail.
Unfortunaly, COVID has become the hammer in which politicians are using to bludgeon each other to gain power for their own self interest - Rational thinking has all been lost.

I’m not calling you or anyone else for that matter, concerned about theirs or their families health a part time supporter or bed wetter because there worried about the risk of catching covid and I apologise if that’s how it’s came across
I just want hibs to win the cup and although it’s still an uphill struggle, playing Celtic on Sunday would help us much more than postponing to Easter as poster I replied to suggested.

I am going but find the advice being given really stupidly conflicting and it's making arguments like you see on threads here happen.
The government needs to definitively decide something, scientists are coming out saying don't go to football, but then you have folk saying to only attend events that are really important to you.
This is the only event I'll be attending until who knows when, so I'll go unless government advice takes a U-turn.

Interesting that 20% of people on the poll are not going or are unsure. Additionally, you'll have people who are planning to go but will either test positive or be a household contact in the next few days.
I wouldn't be surprised if we are looking at a few thousand empty seats in our end come Sunday.

A cup final is an important and meaningful occasion, so you are not going against the advice by attending.
Tbh omicron seems so easily transmissible that I’m not sure anything will stop it short of another full lock down (and no one wants that).

Yep. And somehow people with that attitude don’t get that we have flu to contend with AS WELL AS covid. It’s not an “either or” situation.
Figures not yet available for UK 2021 but for 2020 the figures were:
Total Deaths where flu OR pneumonia was the underlying or secondary cause - 127,575
Total where flu or pneumonia was the underlying cause - 21,614
Total deaths where covid-19 was the underlying or secondary cause - 102,554
Total where covid-19 was the underlying cause - 92,913
Therefore, Total Deaths involving Coronavirus- 195,467
Total deaths involving flu OR pneumonia- 149,189
Almost 350,000 people dead. Time people took a reality check about the true cost of this in real lives. Both those who have not survived and those left behind.

The current escalation around covid is worrying for all of us. For various reasons this is a stressful time for a everyone and with something so emotive it is perfectly understandable that emotions are running high. We are all living in a weird limbo at the moment, awaiting further restrictions and somewhat unsure of what we should and shouldn't be doing. This has dragged on for a long time and people are tired, scared, fed up, anxious, concerned and whole host of other descriptors.
With that in mind can the collective admin team on Hibs.net please appeal to people to think twice about what they post, before they post. Robust debate, differing opinions and frank discussion is absolutely fine. Childish name calling and nasty sarcasm is most definitely not.
We have tried to allow conversations around covid to flow as much as possible. However at such a difficult time we simply can't sit by and allow the above behaviours. Consider this a friendly warning that we will be taking a tougher line on posts playing the man rather than the ball from now on.

I totally get what you're saying, and effectively, this new variant, with the current data appears to be nowhere near as dangerous, as what we have experienced in the past. I believe, you are a railway worker, and like many front line workers as yourself, have been exposed to most variants of Covid on a daily basis to keep the wheels turning, whether you like it or not. I don't blame you for your views, but flu can also be dangerous as well, although I've never heard of people having to wear masks to combat it. Thankfully I get the flu jab every year to help protect me, because I'm recognised as being vulnerable. Can't blame you for appearing flippant about it when you're exposed to it everyday in confined spaces, but I can't believe you're being criticised as having the wrong attitude towards it.

Going on a bus won't be anything close to a risk free environment unfortunately. It's up to each and every person to make an informed decision on whether that risk is worth the potential negative impacts of catching the virus and the isolation that incurs over Christmas.

If this variant is a virulent as they say, then nothing short of a proper lockdown is going to stop us all catching it.
For that reason I'm living my life, and I'll be at Hampden on Sunday and enjoying a few drinks beforehand too.
And if it is as bad as they say, then it's time for the government in Edinburgh and London to stop their abdication of responsibility and take the necessary action.
I'd be livid if I was a small business affected by their "guidance" right now.

More transmissible but a weaker variant symptom wise. The virus is getting weaker as it mutates it would seem. Its hopefully on its way out.

I have no idea what Hermit Crab's occupation is, I'm assuming he's not an epidemiologist (although he can correct me if needed..) and yes he's technically wrong to call it a flu. People typically make that generalisation because the very nature of COVID/Flu are respiratory illnesses and are somewhat similar in nature - The analogy of referring to COVID as the flu has often been pushed via media outlets and politicians (rightly or wrongly)
Though he's not wrong in his premise around letting this covid narrative control/dictate to us going forward; whether that be via social restrictions, loss of freedom (which western governments have so heavily championed for decades), freedom of speech/ability to question, impact on longer term social, economic, mental and health provisions.

Going - the main point is it should not have to be debated by us fans. Regardless of political leanings the message from all Governments devolved or otherwise has been damaging - at best few spats on .net and the likes, at worse folks loosing jobs.
Before any advice was issued the decision should have been taken out or our hands - it may yet be.
I don’t normally post and have chosen this thread as the other appears to be carnage - not concerned for the health of myself and party, however IF (and it’s just if) one of us is unlucky to test +ve after will result in a massive impact on Work and Christmas plans.
Speaking very personally a close family member was lost us in 2020 - without going into detail I would not wish our experience on anyone so as others have said please do show each other the respect that it’s a hugely personal choice….

Agree governments have abdicated responsibility while health experts say this variant is the greatest threat we have faced so far in this pandemic.

6786875 (tel:6786875)[/URL]]Agree. Lockdown will come in January after these light restrictions prove totally inadequate : https://www.scotsman.com/health/covid-scotland-meeting-with-three-households-not-safe-expert-warns-as-omicron-spreads-to-all-health-boards-3496329
more paranoia fed by msm we’ve never had a true lockdown
Get it cancelled and played at or around Easter, when we’re hopefully through the worst of it.
Nobody should have to make this decision and potentially miss Christmas with their family by dint of doing so.
100% agree Jamesie. Already this morning, and it's not even 8.30am yet, I now know of another 5 people who are now not going to the game, and I'm as close as can be of making that same decision. It can't be that difficult to re-arrange this for another date next year when hopefully things will have improved and we can all go and enjoy the whole day, and bring the cup back to ER (rather bringing potentially thousands of us to the ER).
If this doesn't get postponed, there's going to be a noticeably reduced support on Sunday.

With the amount of tickets being sold on social media etc I reckon our end is going to look fairly sparse. Not sure if Celtc are seeing the same

Wouldn’t miss it for the world. Bus as normal, boozer as normal, game as normal, hopefully celebrations as normal.

Go to all games with sister. She collected our tickets and booked bus through Hibs. Still no e mail from Hibs regarding bus. Worse still brother in law tested positive for Covid (PCR confirmed last night) so she has to isolate for 10 days. Doubt I will go now.

At least Celtc fans who feel uneasy about going will be able to find a buyer for their tickets.

Same here.
I'm not going. It's the busiest fortnight of the year in my work (food manufacturer) and due to labour shortages, us office staff are on the line until the 23rd to get product out the door, really makes me appreciate my office chair.
Hope everyone who does go enjoys the day and we come away with the right result!

Well said. Should be able to go to a cup final and be able enjoy yourself to the full.Im sure I'm not the only person living with partner/ young family who's been on the cautious side throughout but going on Sunday can't possibly miss the final, and after working hard all year for the holidays don't want to imagine if I bring it home with me for Christmas.
